So Tophat putting in an entire DPL Team wasn’t right? Was actually surprised more NPL and other USClub teams didn’t signup. Wonder if next year we will see CESA ECRL or other ECRL teams register.

Yeah-coach told him to fill the gap-right back was getting beat pretty bad apparently. At that level seems you’d be able to fill all spots with best at that position. Basically the right back(your son) was probably the best player at their natural position as well but couldn’t play it because they needed him elsewhere due to lack of talent there and they knew he could do it. So how does that work for getting looked at or considered at next level(nationals)? When they get the nationals other defensive backs could probably dance circles around him but he doesn’t get a shot at it because the weakness of that position where he came from didn’t allow him to shine at his natural position. Very head scratching if you ask me. Issue with our age group (08 Boys) is there’s three teams and not enough of each position. Third team has kids that are typically midfielders or forwards in club playing as center backs. My bet is 1/2 the pool are “forwards” or “play up top” so they have to move kids out of position to fill the holes. Outside of the 1st team i don’t think the 2nd or 3rd have any true center backs, probably goes for defensive mids too.

Poster is correct about summer. The goal is to make it to Alabama (top 18 which is top 16 plus 2 goalies). From there, make the Region pool which provides potential for more exposure and great competition. Most players on kids team were ECNL from top clubs. No Bama this year due to Covid and no colleges willing to host. Straight to Texas if you make Regionals so guess how much that’ll cost at one player per room.

Anyone think the trip up there was worth the $450+ spent on it?
08 Boys had three teams of 18 players go, yet only had 2 games schedules for Monday. So we had 22 players for the Monday game because of course they took everyone that wanted to play.
Fields and Refs were great. TN did a great job hosting. Weather was cold but good. Small hiccups of course but nothing major.
But until massive good changes take place in the Ga Odp program this will be our last event. Horribly unorganized and a massive bias towards certain players. Not just our kid, but others as well. Not sure how kids that start on ECNL teams end up on 3rd teams behind players that play Classic 1...

FYI....Bobby Dodd is already turf....no permanent lines on the field.....and turf was installed wide enough for soccer. You’re right. Totally forgot they did that last year. Though playing on a college campus probably not ideal for the league but could be an option for a short term spot until a soccer stadium is built.

Wow they look legit too. Any info on if they’re USClub or USYS?
Didn’t see any Georgia or southeastern clubs listed.

I’ve said it for years, until Atlanta builds some type of true soccer venue they’ll never get a women’s team. Nwsl has no intention of putting a team in an indoor arena like Mercedes-Benz. This is my question- where to play? Kennesaw seems too far for most around the city but probably the best venue. Silverbacks could be nice but would need loads of upgrades. Exactly. Maybe Truist Park or Center Parc Stadium. If Bobby Dodd ever went turf that would be almost perfect, but they don’t want to tear up the grass with soccer. Pretty sure all the NWSL teams play in soccer specific parks so they’ll need to build one. Maybe Atl United will build a complex for the Au2 team to play in too.

Bourbon? Seriously? What are we lacrosse parents now? I have been at a LAX summer tournament where one of the parents was handing out bloody marys. Hoo boy! Sharing is caring! Anyone around old enough to remember always having mimosas on Mother’s Day during Academy Cup weekend?

While we are lucky to have “snow” flurries during this amazing SCCL Cup weekend too. That’s all there is here. Some snow showers overnight-it was pretty. Yeah the other half that’s up there said it was much colder this morning in Atlanta for the first game before heading up to odp for the afternoon game. Still hoping to have a real snow game! 4-5 inches of snow on the field and a steady down pour would be amazing. Especially with so many already doing digital learning 😂😂

Allow me to quick recap this thread: Age Mandate Tophat (including impressive callbacks of petitions and shoes) USSoccer/USYS/GA Soccer ECNL/GA Club Soccer/High School Soccer The COST of Soccer Liquor and Lacrosse And a dash of political unrest ALL THAT'S MISSING IS ... CLUB MERGERS AND ACQUISITIONS!!!! I think that sums it up Missing anything else? LOL Did you hear the latest rumor? All of the Atlanta clubs are combining to form one super club. It will be so elite that they will only play inhouse games. Will they also require monthly trips out of state for “better” competition?

Switching now would mess up their (US youth) planned Championship tournament to start in 2022 as they plan to have teams come from all over the world. You mean the rest of the world that follows an academic year for their youth teams? 🤔

Yeah except it’s not for insurance, USSoccer already covers that for both USYS and USClub. Everyone I’ve talked to, including a current Ga Soccer Board Member and an administrator for Region 3 have all said it’s not for insurance. It’s a nickel and dime expense to point out the loss of income to Ga Soccer. I also confirmed with a friend from South Carolina playing ECRL that they don’t have to pay it either, or it’s not worded as a USClub player fee.
Who really knows it’s just another sign of politics still running ODP.

So to anyone doing ODP this season did anyone get the email from Kosta and Matt saying that if you don’t play for a Ga Soccer club you have to pay $35 extra?
Supposedly 75% of our pool is USClub (SCCL/ECNL/NPL) based so GaSoccer isn’t getting enough of a cut and want more money out of their families.
To anyone who did ODP and ECNL in years past did they make you pay this too??

I’ve had experience with both sides boys and girls at afc lightning and can’t think of a single bad experience. No matter home or down at McCurry, or if it’s Academy, NPL, Super Y or old fashioned Athena and Classic.
Guess it really just varies.

Just depends on the coach and their background. Striker is more European while most US coaches use the term Forward. Winger from my experience is anyone playing on the outside or wing, so an outside full back, or outside Mid, or Forward. Just playing on the Wing.
Just like the numbering system and formations it all varies depending on the coach. There’s no true uniform way of saying it.

Is the sizing more on the medium size then large?
That stinks though. It’s crazy how every style, even from the same brand can have such a difference in size and fit.
Not sure if your a Facebook person, but throw it up there on the their marketplace too. We always find random stuff on there and avoid the ebay fees.

I don't know...not my kid. I was saying "if." Understood. The whole thing reads like the parent is miserable. Yeah definitely sounds more like the parent is wanting the move over the kid. It’s Academy it’s not that big of deal. Go to the closest respected club to your home and kids school. That age is meant to play with yours friends and neighborhood.

Well the NC event in January is canceled which isn’t shocking considering the Covid issues. Here’s hoping the vaccine works!
Here’s some info we got from our ODP coach today.
NC Sub-regional event: January 9-10 is CANCELLED This is a real blessing in disguise as it opens up opportunities for more and also prepare better for the next event Recommend using this weekend for training of age groups – TBD TN Sub-regional event: January 16-18; MLK, Jr. Holiday weekend 2004 to 2010 All age groups should be planning for least 2 teams each (likely 3 or 4 teams at certain ages and even ALL players possible if available to attend…finalizing this info to ensure proper competition levels are aligned of course) Expect to have teams “stacked” (not balanced); in similar format as the SC friendlies UPDATES and DEVELOPMENTS below: Feb 20-21 Florida Regional Invitational: 2007 – 09 age groups in Auburndale, FL (located between Orlando and Tampa) Both boys and girls Participating: Florida ODP, Georgia ODP, Orlando City FC Academy, Atlanta United Academy (and likely Inter Miami FC Academy) Top two teams likely in tiered groups Expect high level competition Feb 20-21 South Carolina return friendlies event: PENDING, backup to the above for teams that do not travel to FL 2004 – 10 age groups Georgia hosting in Atlanta metro area June 11-13 South Region Sub-Regional invitational (Dallas, TX): 2004 – 10 age groups Regional and MLS scouting opportunity 2 games on Saturday, 1 game on Sunday Limiting invites to the top performing ODP programs in South Region: Georgia ODP, Florida ODP, NC ODP, NTX ODP, STX ODP Expect very good competition July 2021; US Youth Soccer South Region Identification & Invitation Camp: UNC Charlotte is currently the leading host candidate location As many of you know, there is a shift from sending teams to sending individuals from states Players will continue to be identified through the state ODP events and invited to attend in Spring 2021

Considering the drive, would have liked for the game to be the full time communicated... we were cut short 5 minutes each half. Coach(es) either didn’t notice, care, or we were misinformed. What age group or time?? Must have been an oversight by the Ref as all the games were scheduled on the two hours mark so there was plenty of time for each even with a couple being delayed earlier.

2010 Boys Gold coach is Craig Gage. New coach to AFU from Nc Fusion this year. Decent coach from what I’ve seen with his 08 ECNL team but he’s adjusting to the AFU ways as Tavani wants all the academy teams playing possession and 4/3/3 style while Gage doenst coach that style yet. For a spring season at AFU id go there if it was closer as they’ll be plenty of extra practice and club passing opportunities. Thank you. What style does Gage coach then? What is a club passing? With the 08s he’s gone from the 4/3/3 that Tavani taught them to a mix of 5/3/2 and 3/4/3 with more of influence of direct over the top play. Club Passing is playing up with the level or age group above you in season. So like a player on the Premier 1 team playing up on the SCCL Club team. Or playing up in age so a U13 Premier 1 player playing up with the U14 Premier 1 team.

Boys side was decent competition, Refs were good, SC ODP coaches Great but with the rain the fields got the fields were a disaster. One field had a puddle that took up the entire goal box, as well as tons a of muddy spots that the ball just stopped dead in. SC team should have scored and megged our GA Gk but the ball was low and slow and ended up stopping in the puddle before crossing the goal line. Wasnt exactly thrilled to drive 3 hours one way for a game with 18 players but luckily the kiddo got to play 3/4 of the game while others only got one full half. While SC teams typically had 3-4 subs. Not sure why they couldn’t do a two day event (Girls Saturday / Boys Sunday ) to give us two games to justify the 6-7 hour drive. Talking with a couple of the SC odp coaches seems they have a better handle on odp then GA. They have over 10 college coaches on staff so they’re able to essentially do recruiting during this dead period with all these kids because they’re coaching them. Not sure SC United FC was too thrilled with ODP destroying their fields for a one day event either. I agree the fields were horrible, but we can't fault GA for the fields the SC ODP management chooses to use. What age group were you watching? GA looked a lot better than SC in the 9v9 games. SC must have had fewer players because some played more than one game while several from GA did not even make the trip. Don’t fault SC Odp at all about the fields. They delayed a couple of the earlier games to squeegee and sand and do what they can to make them better. It’s just what it is. South Carolina doesn’t have a central location (like Georgia) that is all turf so just glad they got in. If it hadn’t rained Sunday morning the fields would have been great as they had plenty of grass in most. It remainder a lot of adults of our old playing days as we use to play like that a lot. We were there for the 08 Boys and 06 Girls. Talking to Thad Miller who heads SC Odp he did say their girls program has been suffering and they lost a lot of players the last few years. Seems a lot of the Ecnl S Carolina players are not coming back to odp due to various reasons (club not promoting it, too much travel already, not competitive enough). Didnt realize we had any 09s make the trip and play 9v9. That seems like a lot of extra for U12s depending on club commitments already.
