good luck to everyone this weekend in Columbus! don't get caught being a Psycho Parent!!! the board is watching...... Too funny! It is usually so hot at those fields, even if psycho parents wanted to act up, they'd be subdued. Subdued by the Sun! And the bugs...! But its good to issue the warning...the board is watching...

We're guesting on a team and saw a psycho parent yesterday. Mostly yelling at the ref. I was surprised he just ignored her unlike some refs I've seen, but it seemed to be the best approach as she just ran out of steam.
On another note, well done U13G Dacula getting a tie with UFA.

On another note, well done U13G Dacula getting a tie with UFA. Let's clarify that was UFA Forsyth. UFA Norcross won their game yesterday and also beat Dacula 2-0 a few weeks ago. Go figure. But today is a much different day.

True. I'm still old school so UFA=UFA Forsyth. Norcross is Norcross. Good win for them too.

I was there and that was the most exciting 0-0 tie I have ever seen. Lots of chances on both sides.

Psycho update. I was not there, but I have it on good authority that police intervened in a fight between parents at the Dacula SSA u13G match today.

I wouldnt call it a fight, just lots of bluster. Campus police were duly called. Started with a 'why don't you go stand on your own side' followed by a 'I'll stand wherever I want' and went downhill from there.

I sometimes stand on the side where my daughter the keeper plays but I don't say anything when I'm there.

Just to be clear, I was there. The DSC dad in question was standing on the SSA side, and SSA was defending, so it wasn't the keepers dad. He was actually pretty well behaved until half-time. As he walked past the SSA parents, he made some derogatory comments about the SSA team. One of the SSA moms said something to the effect of "just go down to your side if you are going to make those comments". The DSC dad then said "I will stand wherever I want to", and effectively challenged the mom to make him move. Not cool, and as a man you don't make those remarks to a woman. I'm sorry, but you just don't. One of the SSA dads took offense, and told the DSC dad to take it to his own side, whereby the DSC dad again said "why don't you make me". In my opinion the DSC dad was looking for a fight. There was some pushing and arguing, and the DSC dad challenged about 5 parents to a fight. The police were correctly called, names were taken, and then it should have been settled. However, after the game the DSC parents were taunting and talking trash to the SSA players. I was there. I heard it. Really, really, classless. These are 13 year old girls. DSC played well and finished their chances, so hats off to them. However, the DSC parents are doing their girls a disservice. And the DSC coaches who tolerate this behavior are are damaging the reputation of their club. I will not be recruiting, promoting, or otherwise facilitating the progress of any of the DSC girls based upon what I saw today.

That sounds like fairly stern stuff there at the end. It's unfortunate that it occurred. Not quite how I heard it (second hand admittedly but from an impeccable source). It was a little more two-sided. Also from what I recall there was some verbal sparring between parents at a previous match.
My rule of thumb is to never speak to the other parents or players, unless to say "good match". That's exactly what occurred after yesterday's UFA match. A lot of 'good job, Black' followed by 'OK, where're we eating?'

My daughter has played with and against the SSA girls for years - she has one of her best friends on this squad so we watch their games as often as they don't conflict with ours. While their are a few SSA parents on that squad that get a little too crazy, there were two Dacula dads that really instigated it and took stupidity to a new level. (Not to mention one of the Dacula players supposedly spit at an SSA player when they were jawing during handshakes)
Was a hard fought game between two squads that are physical and can sometimes play ugly soccer - lots of athletes on the field playing hard and going at each other. The Dacula parent that was mouthing off was a huge dbag and honestly deserved to have the crap beaten out of him. Maybe I'm a little jaded with DSC, but I've seen this on several of their teams and the coaches don't seem to care about sideline activity.

Antics of "so called adults" (attention starved children) on the parent sideline ruin youth sports.
What a downer, that story.

As I thought, this story is much more two sided. The 'you're nothing but trash who comes from trash' comment to a DSC player. And the ref stopping the game and telling both coaches 'I don't know whose parents those are (pointing to the SSA parents) but they need to tone down their comments to the players'. Etc, etc.
I don't want to get into a he said/she said thing or excuse any bad parent behavior, just pointing out that there are two sides to every story, including this one.
And kudos to the majority of players and parents on both teams who enjoyed the game and then finished it off with a simple 'good game Blue' or 'good game White'.

To the poster who commented about sportsmanship, I would have to agree that you should play to the whistle. That should be the refs job to stop play. I've been at a game where a player broke her arm during the game, went off to the sideline, and got a yellow card for leaving the game without permission. Play was only stopped to administer the card to the 12 yr old girl with the broken arm. Go figure.
I've had some coaches do the kick the ball out thing and others who say play to the whistle. In both cases sportsmanship was important to them, just interpreted differently. (Ps: I think sportsmanship begins at home, nothing a coach or club says is going to affect that much). How about the take a knee thing. Should you do that? Before or after the ref stops play? Is there an age where that tapers off? Be curious to know the pulse of the forum.

The point is that the ref doesn't always see the injury. I agree you can complete the play that was in motion, but if the ball is cleared, I think it is certainly unsportsmanlike to come back in for another attack. At that point, you should kick it out of bounds. The fact that this young player said "Sportsmanship doesn't matter" speaks volumes.

I'm pleased to see the Norcross U14 girls move on. All of the Concorde ECNL players weren't enough to move onto the semis.

The comment by the player was classless, but at the select ages, I would want the players to play until the whistle. Unless it's a head injury, even if the ref doesn't see it, play on until the game is stopped. Head injury is a different story though.

A lot of 'good job, Black' followed by 'OK, where're we eating?' Without getting into details.... Your statement about the UFA game is simply not true, couple of DSC dads were rude and obnoxious during the game against a couple of moms and dropping curse words. And there was no good job anything after the game, just a bunch of remarks about how they took SC away from UFA. And about your earlier statement about the game being very close... I believe DSC had one shot and it was 10 ft over the goal. UFA couldnt score after numerous attempts and thats what it all came down to.

Hope you made it home OK in all this rain. We stayed after our game to watch U13G GSA-Concorde and it was a good match.
