“ Unfortunately in the US you often have to sue to get anything done.” oraclesfriend -I find that statement interesting coming from a physician. However, I suppose you do have a point-that’s the way we seem to do things here in ‘Mercia. I did not say it was right. Just saying it is the way that it is.

Hopefully this gains traction and helps break our status quo that places player rights at the back of the line. Athletes aren’t cattle. Thanks

Isn’t ECNL the top level for girls ( that’s what I see on here all the time)? That would be impressive playing up 3 age groups in ECNL. But perhaps the fact that she played up 3 age groups in girls DA an indication that girls DA was nascent and the top talent was not in that league? I’ve seen videos of her and girlfriend does not impress me. That’s cool you have your own pitch in your front yard and train all day but I don’t see it. The fact that she played u12 DA boys at her same age isn’t special as I’ve seen that before.

Watching the videos with her and her father are almost embarrassing how much he smothers her and uses her as a marketing ploy. Kudos to them they got a payday.

Agreed dad is over the top. I have seen videos and they don't impress me skills wise until I have seen her in action. There is a reason Anson Dorrance offered for her at 11 (before the new recruiting rules were in effect) and that she tried out at pro clubs in other countries (but can't go due to FIFA rules). If something weird doesn't happen she will be very successful.

Only time will tell.
Horan was/is a physical freak so the college game wasn’t much of a loss for her and she went to Europe. I think Pugh has been set back by not staying in college and really bailing on it in year one. She’s gained a ton marketing wise for sure, but seems she’s not the anointed one anymore.
I think all moultrie is doing is putting a target on her back. She’s only an 05 right? I guess you make the $$$ while you can.
I would like to see her play.

If one looks around the MLS the last few years, there are few homegrown players making bank. Go check our local MLS team to see who they have brought in for players. I dont see a lot of homegrowns.
I would encourage parents to make a good decision with their kid and honestly explore all options. Our kid had many college offers from all levels. Ultimately they decided to turn them all down in favor of a prestigious academic university. We supported that decision and continue to do so.

with NIL coming (name, image, likeness) - its possible Moultrie could have made a nice $$$ with exposure in college. It will be very interesting to follow her career. Horan has done well for herself now, but I don't think the first few years were easy. And its hard to say how her career would have been different if she attended college.
I personally think besides the money, Pugh has lost out not attending college, her game seems not be the same as it once was. maybe do to injury, but I still believe college is an excellent opportunity for both men and women.

Might be dating myself here, but can't a kid still get a job at 16? What's the difference/big deal?

Moultrie does not have one. Neither do a lot of the homegrown MLS players

I wouldn't have my kid in Europe at 14 or 15 by themself. They are not mature enough to make the decisions necessary to live, study and practice. Just my opinion...

I’m curious does she have to register for the draft at 18 like boys have to? I mean since we are always hollering about women being treated like men?

It all comes down to the NWSL not having a CBA, if the age minimum was in the CBA then I don't think there is a chance she would play. Apparently now the TRO has been extended from 14 days to a longer period.
Portland acquired the discovery rights from the Reign for her, and apparently she is close to signing a contract. Still haven't read why/how Reign had the discovery rights, unless just because they were the worst team in the league and they were up next....But that is just a guess.
To each their own, but if my kid is the best player in her age group she's going to Stanford, UCLA, UVA etc, a school where without soccer, she would have no chance to attend. Take advantage of the future name/image/likeness, enjoy a few free years of school and then go pro.
the current structure of the NWSL relies on $$ from US soccer to supplement salaries.
Would a top d1 school get throttled by a NWSL team?

Would a top d1 school get throttled by a NWSL team? She had an offer from UNC at age 11 (before the new rules). NWSL teams are basically all-star college teams sprinkled with international studs. I do think they would clearly beat D1 schools. I honestly do not have a problem with what Moultrie is doing. Some of these great kids do unusual things to get better experiences. They do what they can. Talia Dellaperuta went to Germany before she graduated high school. Alison Sentnor and Trinity Byars both entered college early to play (Byars already played for Texas). Moultrie is very well thought of. Whether she will succeed or not has a lot to do with many other factors that I think are not directly related to her skills or talent. Will she have the maturity to deal with the scrutiny? That is the bigger issue.

I guess if nike didn't sign her at 13 etc, someone else would have. I'd be very interested to hear how she compares to some of the current 03 and 04s in the country if anyone has ever watched her play.

It has been pro since she signed her Nike contract (including being in at least one ad for them). It has not been about College vs pro for well over a year. What I think is interesting is that she MIGHT have been better off to go college with the new ruling that she can make money off her image. After all she has at least 150,000 followers on IG
