It benefits "GSA" (in this hypothetical example) because the ECNL teams have not played in state Cup in the past several years (if ever?) and they get to boost their lower team and if they win get to say they are State Cup champs. Bragging rights. PR. Also the players put that on their college resumes. It boosts the team's ranking on some systems like gotsoccer. Would it not be smart to make sure your top team has all the players needed to have a successful run or possibly winning as opposed to losing a couple of players to your second team (the bar is not as high) with little expectation to go far. Both teams could end up not getting past group stage. I dont know, maybe it's just me This was how things were done in the past when ECNL players did NOT participate. That is what they were referring to...they would bring down the top players from teams that were not playing in the event as these clubs had second and third teams playing and none of their top teams playing. Sometimes even DA players were brought down. So their top team did not need players at all to make a run because they weren't even playing. |

That is what they were referring to...they would bring down the top players from teams that were not playing in the event as these clubs had second and third teams playing and none of their top teams playing. Sometimes even DA players were brought down. So their top team did not need players at all to make a run because they weren't even playing. Got it! the new improved system will eliminate a lot of that |

Winning team members - play for free the following season! This should surely be part of the agreement. Along with Top 4 teams getting automatic qualification following season. Oh yeah! Bottom 4 get kicked out and bring in new teams based on performances in their regular league games I agree with the winning players going free next season(insert DOC eye-roll). However, I do not agree with current champions or semi-finalists automatically getting in the next year. With the change in team make-up and coach, that team may not be up to the task(see UFA 2005 team from last year to this year). So I say if the WC champions have to play their way in, then so can everyone else. New Year, clean slate. Everyone in Metro Atlanta(not state of Georgia) gets to play their way in. I could live with rankings from previous year helping to seed teams in the play-in games. Finally, no, no and for the 3rd time NO pro/rel... |
