Roads are not safe and tournament director wont even answer his phone.
Fields are not fine. Falling on a frozen turf field is like hitting concrete.
You couldn't even see the lines at the 10am games.

LSA canceled the rest of today and website says canceling tomorrow though I haven't heard that yet from the TM.
Can't really get much out of games like this especially for the little ones. How does slipping and sliding around help develop players?

AFU just pulled all of their teams out of SSA’s tourney due to the weather. So if you’re suppose to play an AFU team don’t go!

The header for this thread is spot on...
SSA must really need the $ to not cxl this tourny
We had a 9am game and by halftime you couldn't see the lines. The PK our game was a joke, you couldn't see "the spot" and the ref never marched it off... just took a guess on where to place it. Slush and ice on the fields by the 2nd half, thankfully our game was with a younger group, but I can imagine the older teams having some injuries from today. The roads getting home afterward were getting worse by the minute, we won't be going back today... can't even make it out of the neighborhood... and I'm guessing we won't tomorrow either, once the roads freeze over. But that wasn't the point of today.. Today was about SSA making sure they got their MONEY!
My guess they will cancel tomorrow's games once they have their two games in the books... screw putting kids and parents lives in danger... as long as they got theirs! Yet another black-eye on the SSA organization. Disgraceful.

SSA just cancelled all afternoon games. Posted about the same time that LSA cancelled theirs. And the same time AU called off the U17 friendlies they had already started. So all 3 clubs reacted in roughly the same way and timeframe. Why is the forum so against SSA?

Marathon park was slush in some parts, we played at 10am and the little kids were freezing. Terrible decision to even try and play, but expected. One team in our age group came in from Savannah to play in this also.

I agree, title is an accurate statement but SSA is no different than any other club and their tourney.
The honest truth is that parents need to make their own decisions on safety and not be part of the herd mentality. No one to blame but yourself if you made the decision to drive to the games this morning. It’s an unfortunate situation but ultimately the decision lands on the parents s

Having been a tournament director before the decision to cancel is a very difficult one to make. Not only is the money important to your club but also there are teams that have traveled from out of state that even if you refund their entry are out their travel costs. I think the clubs handled this about the best way they could. I’m interested to see what they do tomorrow.

When there's a state winter weather advisory you probably should defer to that. As for being the parents decision, it's really an individual club decision. One or two parents saying they're not bringing their kid to the game effects the rest of the kids also. The club has to make the decision they're driving the 45-60 minutes to the game in the weather, not the parents.

We were in Marietta. Field conditions sucked (on turf) but it was playable. Roads were fine there and back.
I expect to get slammed for this comment but I've read the forum long enough to know - had SSA canceled the tournament beforehand, all of you would've bizatched about that, too.

Biggest issue is that you cannot predict the weather with accuracy...particularly snow vs freezing rain vs regular rain in Georgia. They always mess up because a couple of degrees on gournd level and a couple of degrees higher in the atmosphere make a huge difference!!! It is the same issue with school. If it doesn't snow and it gets canceled everyone bizatches. If it does snow and they don't cancel everyone bizatches. The only time fewer people bizatch is when the weather and the cancelation or lack thereof matches.

Seems everyone has forgotten 2014 already. The temperature being just above freezing should have been enough, especially to at least cancel the little 8-9 year olds games.

We were in Marietta. Agree. Roads “there” were fine. However where we live - ice and slush. I am not sure we will make it out of our hood tomorrow. I imagine many people in the area are in this same situation
So SSA can’t just consider clubs that traveled a long way but also the entire area surrounding the Atl. People drive from around the state to play for various clubs.
We will see what happens tomorrow.
I applaud LSA for making the tough decision for today and tomorrow. They “see” the roads in their area. Gainesville received quite a bit and the roads will be nasty for the residents in that area through tomorrow

Maybe 10m halves with a 1 minute HT would help. You do realize they only need to get one game in to cash the check? This isn’t a two game minimum thing. It’s a kickoff, play 5 mins and declare a winner or even kicks from the mark shootout and then they’ve done their part to legally justify keeping the full fee.

From the Tourney website: "Saturday 6:15pm - We have been working through the afternoon on reworking the schedules for Sunday so that as many teams as possible get to play. In doing so, we have prioritized out-of-state teams, but in the process have had to drop a handful of divisions to achieve this unfortunately."

I understand the weather predictions get it wrong quite a bit, especially here in Georgia, because of what you described. What made me upset was the slow reaction time once the conditions deteriorated dramatically. It was obvious at the 9am games that the worst case scenario was occurring (with several more hours of snow coming) and most parents and observers knew the main reason to not cancel at that point was money... not because they thought it was safe to play on.

We we were even scheduled to play FC Alliance tomorrow 🤷🏻♂️Wonder if AFU just withdraw all their teams due to “safety”. Revised: just heard back from TM that we are going to play two games tomorrow. Yippee for the 9:00am game to start.

I drove at 8:30 this morning from Brookstone in Acworth to HP offices on windward. Sedan, rear wheel drive. Back roads, Hwy 92 most of the way. No issues whatsoever. If y’all live in the mountains than show better judgement. Not that important for your little Mia or Christian to play in a U14 game. But would love to know the outcome of your lawsuit.

So this board is the most hormonal/bizatchiest board I’ve ever seen.
1). It’s a February tourney. You run the risk of bad weather. 2). This board has crucified Concorde for cancelling a tourney when there’s a threat of rain. SSA/LSA waited and still gets crucified. 3). South of I20 was no weather issues so those parents are probably clowning the Buckhead Bettys and Gwinnetters that are bizatching. 4). It’s a February tourney. 5). Roads weren’t bad. It also got over 40 today. Roads won’t be bad tomorrow. If you can’t drive in the weather we had this morning please God stop driving at all. 6). My daughter was a ref today. She said it’s sucked. See #’s 1 and 4. It’s February. It sometimes sucks.
Good luck all tomorrow.

Cumming, Alpharetta areas had quite a bit of snow on the road just before noon (from reports of family that were out and about at that time). By 330 or so though the roads were pretty dry. Even many bridges in Forsyth county and north were nearly dry by the late afternoon. As I mentioned before it is hard to predict winter weather in Georgia due to mild temp fluctuations causing major differences in snow accumulations. 3-4 miles in any direction might be vastly different road conditions. To shame people for their judgement is a bit silly. It wasn't even snowing in most of the areas at 730 or so when many people left home for these events and predictions were for less than an inch in most areas. By 11-12 many areas had 2 inches and roads were slick. BUT to blame the tournaments for lack of judgment is equally silly. No one is mandated to show up for a tournament. Can't blame the tourney for your car damage. To blame them for not stopping games in dangerous conditions for the players on the field is a different story, but still you can pull your own kid off if you are worried enough.

I couldn’t agree more! And side note, I’m not shaming anyone. However if you were in metro Atlanta and say the roads were treacherous and too bad to drive I’m calling you a liar. Again, if you can’t drive in slush stop driving at all. The world will be safer. Weather folks are the only profession where it’s ok to get it wrong most of the time. No reason to cancel the tourney until there was a reason. At 8am at my home when I left it started to snow. There was nothing on the ground. My daughter was a ref. At halftime of her first game she put her chair at midfield to mark for kickoffs. Shortly after the field was covered. However she said it was fine for play (just couldn’t see the lines). No worse than playing on a turf field in the rain. (She also played on Friday night at 8:00pm when it was actually colder than at 10AM this morn) Point I’m trying to make is don’t blame the tourneys. It is what it is. It’s a February tourney. As a parent use common sense. As a club use common sense. That seems to be what the tourneys eventually did. But we have folks saying clubs are stealing money, lawsuits being filed....come on. These folks are a little ridiculous....
