Meaning if they have what is currently their DA team play DPL, what league do their current DPL team players play in next year? Soccermaxx thinks it won't matter because all of their current DA girls will leave. I don't think so. They will lose some (which happens anyway), but not all. There are enough loyal customers to stay. So without ecnl, let’s assume 6-8 players leave. Combine the remaining with best from DPL, the bottom half of DPL slides to SCCL or leaves. Major winner is Tophat SCCL strengthens, although not much consolation for losing DA Tik Tok Tik Tok- time is running out for tophat to get that ECNL spot. Today will be a telling day. I actually have to agree with soccer max on this one. All of the top players who have not committed will leave and frankly, the top girls already have spots waiting for them on other teams. Yes, coaches are chomping at the bits and have called their top choices. The only loyal players that will stay for DPL are those players who cant make those other teams so yes half of the DA girls are already gone and the other half will stay. Let's hope that TG can get ECNL to let them in. He is a good guy but he does need to tone down the arrogance a bit. I actually feel sorry for him but he needs to man up and face his girls on the weekly calls. He is the face of TH and when you send your assistants to do the dirty work, you lose trust and it sends a message that you dont care.

The lack of communication is causing all of this confusion and disruption amongst its players and that right there is the reason his players have entertained the phone calls and they are practically gone. I wonder if he is naive enough to think that they are sitting by the phone waiting for him to call? Ever since Jerome left, TH is not the destination club it once used to be and it had problems before DA even announced its demise.

Impact on your player: If you are on an ecnl team and you're in the bottem 3rd of that team TH not getting ECNL will impact you... The clubs wont just add new players and not remove others... Contrary to what some might tell you, there is no club loyalty. If you believe otherwise you are drinking the kool-aid

04gparent is right. The biggest losers in this are the bottom 1/3 girls at Concorde, AFU and GSA. We all know that tryouts are just to have the appearance of selection. The real selection is made by phone before, during and after. Phone call tryouts def flying around right now.

I'm kind of curious just how many will get spots at other clubs. Yes, I know Tophat has a great reputation with some great players, but clubs like Concorde are no slouches either. It's not like their players are that much different from Tophat. Yes, the 3-4 tip top, nationally recognized girls would probably be shoe-ins, but it's not like half the team will walk over and grab spots either. Do the clubs these Tophat players seek out still have loyalty to their own players that have been with the club and helped to build it to where it currently is, play a part in this? Again, all things being equal, not speaking of those tip top 3-4 players. For those that are at TopHat they might want to stick around and ride the storm out. Tophat will find something if ECNL is not in the picture.

Tophat will have something but it wont be ECNL.. they will create something and then try and sell everyone on how "Elite" it is. One major issue is that the travel that would be involved could be insane and in these times is that even a viable option? They are really in a tight spot and yes their players are making calls. If you believe otherwise you are drinking the kool-aid Actually, speaking strictly in regards to the communications here, they have not even sent one club-wide email. Yes an email was sent to certain teams within TH. Add to that, you don't hear directly from a person in the position of power on the future of your club or the fallout from the loss of a league that serves the top teams within your club. At the very least, be on the call with the teams you actually coach and don't send a lackey who is clueless and insensitive. I don't think that's too much to ask, is it??? So for those 05 girls that live in northern Gwinnett or hall county and miss the cut for ecnl, instead of driving an hour to remain at those clubs and play SCCL you should consider the USYS NL team at LSA. That team will be looking to add 4-6 players and likely 3 starting spots open. Play in a competitive league with pro/rel and a chance to compete for state, regional and possible national championship opportunities.

But the only problem is for those rising JR and SR who don't have offers yet. They can't lose a year of not being seen. My daughter is a rising JR so this year is extremely important in her dream to play college ball

If Tophat would have said "Hey TH families, there is a rumor that DA may be dissolving, if this is the case, we are trying our best to find the best fit for our players. Please be patient while we go through this process." Instead, the families were presented with crickets and posts on twittter reminding everyone how great they are yada yada yada. I truly hope that ECNL gives tophat a spot and I think they are close on getting an answer. It will be a great thing because it will mean less travel and we will have fun competing against our local friends and families with good talent. UFA, AFU, TH, CF, and GSA - this could mean great things for all of our clubs. Let's be hopeful but not naive. Good luck to all teams!

I am hearing that NTH might not get ECNL because of the amount of teams they have already. Would ECNL take away one of Concord team to give that spot to NTH? I know for name recognition it would be better for them to do that. Another option would they get rid of a lower team and add them to ECRL give NTH the spot. Don't know if ECNL would punish a loyal club for NTH

I heard a rumor that TH is trying to get 2 teams and that is why it is taking time to negotiate. I understand the issue with the number of clubs but other divisions have a lot of clubs (for example the Northeast division). If TH had 1 team there would be 13 and 2 would be 14.
I do not agree with them having a second team (or any club having two) but it would make sense if Concorde has two and they are similar level to TH as are many other clubs with two.

If that is the case that would be great but if they go to 14 teams you are looking at a 26 game season plus tournaments. (Home/Away Games). For the younger ages no problem but for the high school age girls that might be tough It would be nice if they added more teams to FL and made them their own region. I think Fl had 4 DA teams in the state add them to the existing ECNL teams and 2-3 more clubs and you have 10 team Division. Have GA/Al and TN together and you can have 10-12 team's and it cuts down on some travel time

As for recognition, Tophat was listed as one of the top 100 girls clubs in america, you know who else was... Concorde (#13 in fact). ECRL is just hearsay, there hasn't even been discussions to create a regional league in this market. I think it would be a good thought to do so, but not realistic for this year. I know you didn't mean it in the way I read it, but it comes off as stated earlier on one of these threads... When Tophat shows up, they appear to get treated as special or entitled to something. I think that is why some feel Tophat is now getting their just desserts.... Edit for an additional thought: This could make Concorde's two ECNL teams even stronger if the Tophat players wind up exiting and moving over to Concorde. No need to drop a team if they are going to receive an influx of players leaving to come to play for it...

that's not entirely accurate regarding Concorde having two ECNL teams. One is Concorde Platinum, which is out of the Concorde Central location. the other is Concorde Premier, which is out of SSA. While they were both branded Concorde this year, the Premier team is really SSA's ECNL team. it is coached by SSA coaches.

No need to drop a team if they are going to receive an influx of players leaving to come to play for it... This is very true. Another poster mentioned that bottom 1/3 of all ECNL teams current and future (UFA) must be concerned that they will be displaced if those DA players all leave. This is very true. For the 04 and older teams the second Concorde team may get completely displaced. This will be especially unfair as it is possible this will all be done without any tryouts. It also means any bubble player looking to move UP will also not get a chance. Frankly I hope that TH gets ECNL for the reason stated above and to lend further validation for the southeast conference by having another top 100 club playing ECNL.

Post by fridge on Apr 17, 2020 12:12:56 GMT -5
I wanted to add some thoughts and correct what I think are some inaccuracies.
1. CF controls BOTH ECNL teams. They did give SSA access to the Premium teams at 3 younger age groups. I am not sure if this "deal" will last. CF has the Platinum team and has its coaches doing the other 3 Premium teams. CF's Platinum teams are very good at every age group. Maybe a few TH kids can be added, but not a lot. There is clear room at the Premium teams which would go from solid/competitive teams to very good teams if they pick up a few better girls. (As noted above about the bottom 1/3 at other clubs, that would hurt the bottom 3rd CF kids too.)
2. I think there is a ZERO chance TH gets into ECNL this year or any time soon. The TH propaganda has already begun by a post above about maybe not this year, but likely next year TH will get ECNL. That is 100% BS. I say that it is very remote that TH breaks into ECNL in the next 3 years--something would have to change. GA has sufficient teams (4) for the amount of talent in metro-Atlanta and for travel partners. ECNL chose UFA to fill a void NOT TH. Adding another team would water down talent in ECNL GA and hurt loyal clubs like AFU and the new club like UFA. ECNL owes TH NOTHING. It owes the local ECNL clubs everything for keeping it alive and making it relevant during the tough years while clubs like TH trashed it.
3. I know TH things the world owes them something, but they are wrong. Further, there is bad blood re TH. Such as TH trying to box out UFA in the DPL league or TH purposely announcing two years ago that it was the only DA and ECNL in GA preempting CF announcement about dropping DA. It was an D'bag move. And so, there is great incentive to box them out.
4. The world constantly rotates and it's TH turn. TH has had a great run bc of 3 things (1) won at young ages while other big clubs did not combine teams/locations; (2) this allowed them to recruit out of ODP to get better talent; and (3) then claimed that it was "TH development" that is credited for the winning and NT accolades. Again, it was/is a brilliant model. However, if you look at their great players, a very very large majority moved to TH at or even later than u14--heck 3 girls who have been in/out of camps consistently were with CF going go camps bf they jumped to TH 2 years ago bc they wanted DA. Further, for all the national team players/talent they have, how many ECNL and DA championships do they have? ZERO I don't think they have even made it to a final and maybe to a final 4 once in ECNL or DA--which CF has done 3 or 4 times.
5. Koolade drinkers. I guess what I am saying is when you are GREAT at recruiting, your talent will carry you to regional/divisional first place. However, to come in the top 2 or 4 in the nation, that is when the next level coaching and development comes in. (Eg. UGA has top recruiting each year and they routinely make it to the SEC Championship game. Yet, something is lacking when they play the next level teams--coaching and development.)
6. I am not saying others recruit. They DO. The difference is, the other clubs don't brag or are far less pompous that it is their development process that makes their teams so great.
7. So, it will be interesting to see what happens. TH kids trying to get looks to go to college will have to decide do they want: certainty--AN ECNL team on the top league playing the top competition or uncertainty--TH and the new league playing lesser teams and lesser competition as well as no local games and a bunch of travel. Remember, TH bragged that for the last 2 years that they were different than CF because they were in the top league which TH found to be a very important selling point. I look forward to the spin that now they are not in the top league any more and will be playing lesser competition. Again, the PR machine will be out spinning. It will be fun to watch.

Savannah United has not been strong enough IMO. Too inconsistent. It is tough to put together a great team with smaller population sizes. Not sure who else you could add. Maybe AFC Lightning especially if that lured some CFC Red star kids too.

Year 1 of Concorde having 2 ECNL teams: Premier went to SSA for 05 and 06 age groups
Year 2 of Concorde having 2 ECNL teams: Premier went to SSA for 05, 06 and 07 age groups
Next year Comcorde will probably give 05, 06, 07 and 08 to SSA. Leaving only 04 and 02-03 at CF. This is likely just to back support the girls who were DA and ECNL in that one season. Pretty stand-up move IMO.

04gparent is right. The biggest losers in this are the bottom 1/3 girls at Concorde, AFU and GSA. We all know that tryouts are just to have the appearance of selection. The real selection is made by phone before, during and after. Phone call tryouts def flying around right now. Why is that LSA team losing so many players?

Good question about LSA? Though they did not have a large roster last year anyhow.
