We have a lot of parents on this forum that have kids who play on the Tophat DA team. I was wondering if TG has reached out to them with what they will be doing for the future.
TG is not the best at getting information down to the lower team because IMO if you don't play DA there no need to talk.
I am sure if Tophat doesn't get ECNL there will be a mass exodus of girls to other clubs. I don't want to leave Tophat but my daughter goal is to play in college so we want to be at a club that will give her exposure

“Hopefully it will filter down. I would love to see what it says” Sorry, I’d prefer not to be the one to chum the water. I’m still surprised at the negativity by some members here toward Tophat, and even the parents of kids that play for Tophat. It’s unclear to me what Tophat, or parents have done to deserve some of the vitriol they express. No, I wouldn’t be surprised if some Tophat employees and parents have done reprehensible things. If they join the largest club in Atlanta they don’t stop being human, or lose the accompanying imperfections and differences. On the other hand, I’ve been exposed to bad behavior at other clubs. Coaches that belittle kids in front of their peers during practice. Coaches trying to screw each other over. I have voicemails and texts to my phone from the coaches where they contradict each other in blatant lies. I’ve seen some unbelievable behavior by parents too when we were with a smaller club. I’ve seen the dad of an opposition team player badger and scream at his own daughter so much while she was playing in a game that our coach eventually had to threaten him with removal from the facility. Her own coach was either a coward, or ok with the man’s behavior. I guess I will eventually see the dark side of Tophat, and then I’ll understand why Tophat should be singled out. I’ll understand then why there are comments with what feels almost like a celebration of what’s about to happen to kids at Tophat if they get what they justly deserve and are excluded from ECNL. I know I haven’t done anything personally to those members. Yet, my apparently undeserving kid has only been with Tophat for one and a half seasons. Maybe I’ll be corrupted over time into a person suitable for loathing and scorn. I need to start making more money though so I can buy her way on to the best team I can afford — since she couldn’t have worked hard, and sacrificed. Until then my intention is to just go on being friendly at her games, and refilling the first aid kit in my truck. /rant off Sorry. I didn’t start my reply intending to go there.

My only retort. Youth sports is all about relationships. Everyone has to do what is best for them, but DON'T BURN BRIDGES is the #1 rule.
I enjoy being civil with parents from other clubs at games. Build relationships and contacts. Ultimately the club doesn't really matter. Only the kids and the coach.

I have friends that have daughters playing for Tophat.... ones that my kids played with at younger ages... and I love them! Yet, I even find myself fighting back those resentment feelings of the club and have to remind myself that the individuals in the club are just like the rest of us. I think a little bit derives from jealousy and some of it from believing when Tophat or even a player from Tophat shows up, they get treated as special, not just another player. They get preferential treatment. Even the kids see it and associate it with arrogance and begin to hate the club. Meanwhile, individually, they like their former teammates and friends within Tophat. I know it's not the best answer, but I wanted to honestly describe how I view it.

I fully hope tophat gets ecnl back, too strong of a club and it's about the kids not the leaders of the club.
But top dogs are always easy targets - AU, Concorde and Tophat - usually folks and myself talk more about those on top - similar to sports talk radio that is all SEC football all day every day.

The way I look at Tophat is that they are the envy of everyone else around so there will always be shots fired at them.
IMO, it would be a shame if Tophat doesn’t get ECNL.
We should all be happy for having so many good clubs around, and more clubs having better options helps our kids. For parents, that means less travel and less money to spend.
Not having the best girls club in town as part of currently undisputed best league ECNL would be a shame.
This comes from a soccer parent that doesn’t have a kid playing at TH.

I read the letter....its as arrogant as expected since its coming from TG 🤷🏻♀️
The kids will be fine, if TH doesn't get ECNL, all those kids that jumped ship to go there will just jump somewhere else. Or Tophat will just start a new league
Know a lot of folks whose kids play at TH and love them. My daughter was asked to go play there a few times and she never wanted to. I have heard some terrible stories from people whose kids still play there but refuse to leave because its "Tophat" so I'm glad she never wanted to play there.

Many very highly respected players in the college game played there. Whether it is due to recruiting, development or both is irrelevant to the quality that is present in their older teams. I do not have a child that plays there, but have several friends with kids that did and do. I have a lot of respect for their older teams. It would be a shame for them to not be in ECNL with their top team. They should not get two teams, though.

I will do my best to share an honest, informed experience about the illusion of tophat and why the povs are so strong. Today a call was set up with the former DA ‘04’s & ‘05’s to explain that th knows nothing but plans are being discussed to form a new league if they can’t get ECNL. The messenger was a part time coach who took notes to deliver to TG. Why? Why set up a call with your teams that you chose to manage and coach on your own (4 teams) and then send the helper coaches to reassure the players? The new guys are not well versed in management and said things like “you guys won’t even be playing for a long time, I am not sure why you’re even bent out of shape”. Unbelievable you might say, but that happened. Also said “ECNL isn't even that good, I used to coach it last year.’” Talk about arrogance, ignorance and a complete elitist mindset! The club has not developed players that translated into college signings the way the illusion appears. Tophat had connections with colleges that were built over time as one of the oldest clubs in atl by connected, wealthy families. They also had the benefit of a reputation built on recruits from other local clubs that helped them win who came around u14. So yes, they get to post about college signings, but ask the parents how much th was actually involved. Find out if the player and parents knew about ID camps from their own research, and went on their own to build connections if not already connected and spent money traveling to schools early and often to help their kids’ chances. Find out if the colleges called TG for input and never heard back. This is real. And yes, I can absolutely confirm having other kids at diff clubs in the area, TG is the worst with communication. Another example - How do you not build connections with other local clubs? Anyone ever wonder why th never scrimmaged local teams, never attempted a friendly? Fear of losing. Fear of competition. Ever wonder why TG was only at 10% of the internal scrimmages? Fear of having to face older team players and push them to try. Instead the players who showed up, some barely gave any effort so that losing to the younger teams seemed like no big deal. Actually losing caused fear, So fake it. But th set up a structured buddy system where older players were supposed to mentor younger players about college and answer recruiting questions. Sounds like a great idea, right, a chance to give back, to take care of the younger ones. Real ones know that that starts by showing respect on the field to push the intensity and effort. Who wants advice from someone that wastes most Saturday’s half a$$ing a chance to get better ? It might sound trivial, but it’s an observation into the bigger problem. The club never wins at the highest levels, never when it really counted and it starts with the culture. We built a a great looking plan, but never executed on it. Just good enough, we got invited to the dance coaching is the best you’ll get. Just ask the oldest team, ask the parents or players. Never seen a more miserable bunch who cannot wait to get out. I would love to hear from someone who feels their daughter developed under TG. The other part of the illusion is built around national camp invites. Your player doesn’t have to be at tophat for that opportunity if that is what your daughter is after. They need luck, and to bring the tools of a next level player to whatever club they end up at, it so happens the illusion brings a lot of hard working kids to the club hoping that skill and will is what it takes to get recognized. That isn’t developed by TG. They either believe in that and work hard outside of training and tophat just reaps the benefits of that mentality. That may be enough with luck and it may not be. Some others at the club, who paid their dues as a long standing member, a call can be made and we’ve seen that happen. Life isn’t fair, but it helps to be informed. Also check out this article for those curious about next steps. www.soccerparenting.com/an-important-message-to-parents-as-the-us-soccer-da-dissolves/

Whats intresting is it sounds like they are pretty much getting ready for no ECNL. If you read the Florida Forum it sounds like JS down in Weston said some of the same things and some of the rumblings down there was that DPL was going to be the vehicle they would chose. That would include adding some more of the mid Atlantic DA teams that dont get into ECNL and I would assume the ones from last year (in TX and southwest) that didnt go ECNL.

What do you mean when you ask what will they do with their current dpl team? Meaning if they have what is currently their DA team play DPL, what league do their current DPL team players play in next year? Soccermaxx thinks it won't matter because all of their current DA girls will leave. I don't think so. They will lose some (which happens anyway), but not all. There are enough loyal customers to stay.

There are enough loyal customers to stay. So without ecnl, let’s assume 6-8 players leave. Combine the remaining with best from DPL, the bottom half of DPL slides to SCCL or leaves. Major winner is Tophat SCCL strengthens, although not much consolation for losing DA

I think the ones on the 04 and 05 teams will be the most likely to leave as they will want the exposure regardless of location and history with the club. The older ages are all committed already so they will move for a variety of reasons from they are driving a bunch to het to practice, to their college coaches wanting them to play potentially a higher league. But the ones who dont have these issues will probably stay.

I don't have animosity to tophat at all, but it definitely feels deserved for the club (not the players).

I had to respond to this post. TG is not perfect, he is not the best at everything but the picture you paint is of someone that is tainted and bitter. My daughter is on one of the teams that TG coaches and I agree that his bedside manner is not warm and fuzzy and as an organization they do not do things well at times but the vitriol you are spewing is unfair. What is your goal here? SO the grass is greener on the other side of the septic tank? No problems at other clubs? My daughter did get a college offer but it was not through a Tophat connection, she worked hard, played well in a showcase and was approached by a school that was interested. As a matter of fact no TH player has ever attended this school. No wealthy old connection there. And what's with this scrimmaging local teams? Is that a GA Soccer requirement? Does it mean something if you do not scrimmage local teams? Not enough to scrimmage teams, say, in your own club? Fear of competition? So any team coached by TG has never played against a team based in Atlanta? ( sarcasm on) Yeah, I think you are right. When we first arrive we were told that it was against TH policy to play local teams. Some kind of team by-law that was passed but obviously ignored since TH held a tournament every year to play local teams. Again, I am saying TG is not a perfect coach and yes teams at times are not crazy about how he does things and deals with people but for some reason good players still show up year after year. Yes, the only reason TH players are good is because of the club's reputation. The hope is that when TH shows up for a game other teams will just quit playing(doesn't always work though because real athletes love and thrive on competition)( sarcasm off) Not sure who you think is half a$$ing it because I assure you I know players on my daughters team that look forward to compete and win. TH will probably never win major competitions because they are more concerned about player promotion, meaning players before teams, teams then suffer. When TH has national players you can best be assured the players will rarely/never play with your age group. You can bash TG all you want ( he deserves it at times) but please do not suggest all the players are handed opportunities because they put on a TH uniform. Thank you

Yikes! How about karma.
First off, I hate it for all the players and most of the parents. I’ve got former players there, like as most it seems and the last thing I wanted is for the them to come back under these circumstances. I hope the best for the players.
But.... this is NASA’s own doing and karma getting them back. Ever since the takeover of Tophat the change from the Admin/coach side had changed drastically from the old Tophat ways. Tophat was gone and they just made a more arrogant NASA instead. That’s at least what a lot of us coaches and directors saw from other clubs.
Tophat use to be the club that didn’t matter about league initials, they just played at the top of wherever they could. So hopefully not getting Girls ECNL (Which will probably not happen by Fall) will bring back that old style and also re-energize Ga Soccer and USYS National/Regional Leagues.
Wonder if SoccerFan30 is still around to help answer or at least deny some of this rumors.

I was just thinking "where in the world is SoccerFan30, too..." No matter what your stake is in what happens with TH, we can all agree they are reeling from the loss of ECNL(originally) and now GDA. There were already cracks in their armor when they chose to replace the loss of ECNL with DPL. Now there are rumors of DPL again replacing GDA, if that occurs, I can definitely say many will jump off the Kool-aid drinking bandwagon. I do hope they get ECNL, but I'm hearing negotiations are no bueno but there is hope. Either way, TH needs to communicate a framework by the end of the weekend at the latest of what the future will look like, so families can make fully informed long term decisions for fall and beyond... For the record I have always had a level of respect for how TH did their thing. Great marketing, high level successes marred in mystery and intrigue coupled with news worthy signings for colleges and YNTs. Plus let's not forget their penchant for dominating wins. The most important factor though is that the families that choose to go there, feel they will get pushed to be their best as long as they are willing to do what it takes and work hard. We can't minimize that and I think to do that is disrespectful to the commitments of time, money and sacrifice put in by these young ladies and their families. Till then, TH Decision 2020 Watch, continues 👀👀
