Surely this must be the end of DPL which was solely a league designed to be the “bait” for potential second team players at DA clubs. I don’t know how you spin DPL into its own league without that dangling fruit of DA and also the structure that DA had in place for showcases.

I just don't think it has been publicized like DA has. But it was hard enough for the DA info to become official, so... who knows if the death of DPL will ever be announced.

While it wouldn't surprise me for DPL to go away especially if California girls set up their former DPL teams into ECRL, it doesn't otherwise HAVE to go away. Their premise was for 2nd teams of DA clubs but on the east coast they had several clubs that weren't in that scenario. They could just keep it and put the first teams that don't get ECNL in it. As of right now there are a lot of girls clubs that had DA with no home. Who knows how long that will be true though. My guess is that you won't hear anything from DPL at all until all of the dust has settled enough with first teams in Cali and Texas. Then we will know the plan for 2nd teams in Cali, Texas and beyond.

Sure would be nice if they would send out some communication on it!!
I mean, seriously!! How can they not have some statement to make in this situation?!?
It continues to amaze me... the lack of communication youth soccer has... I've never seen an industry be this quite when changes occur.

Give him a call or send an email.

About all they could say is... "We are assessing the situation and trying to make sure we get the best product for our customers."
They may not even KNOW the state of DPL. But I'm sure they are on the phone constantly. I don't know why the league would be gone for next year when these clubs need a place for their 2nd teams to be for next year (regardless of who its associated with).
If NTH don't get ECNL it will likely be because of the club leadership, not just ECNL being petty.
But this will affect a lot of clubs (DA and DPL in the southeast). If nothing else they can create a brand new league in US Club to accommodate all the teams (even if its a one-year deal).

I don't see DPL going anywhere. My understanding is that they have 10-12 confirmed teams.

Has anyone heard what DPL would look like, aside from having the 3rd TH team? Is it otherwise just the second teams of the GAL Sputheast:
IMG Academy 2nd team United Soccer Alliance 2nd Tophat SC 3rd Wake FC 2nd West Florida Flames 2nd Weston FC 2nd

Palm Beach Gardens was in it last year, South Carolina Surf (formerly USA Mt Pleasant and other clubs), and the newly added Pinecrest Premier. Likely will keep Weston's 2nd team who played last year and they added IMG's second team. I suppose they will clarify it eventually but I bet most of their time on PR now is spent on GAL.

*returning club

Whats intresting is the rumor is several of the former Texas DA clubs are keeping their 3rd team in DPL after ecnl and ercl.

DPL is dead. Either play in GAL or just go to showcases(formerly DPL).

Which team is the blue circled R logo on the dpleague.org home page? I believe that is Colorado Rush.

I don't understand, how tough is it to get whoever created the DPL website for them to create a GA website? This clubs list looks like a mix of DPL and GA clubs (or not?). I don't see SC Surf on there.

Interesting, back up to 10 clubs. Better travel profile than DPL. I wonder how good Wake FC's 2nd team will be.

Surely this must be the end of DPL which was solely a league designed to be the “bait” for potential second team players at DA clubs. I don’t know how you spin DPL into its own league without that dangling fruit of DA and also the structure that DA had in place for showcases. ECNL has drastically expanded and has left its flank exposed. Most girls now playing in ECNL are no longer elite soccer players. Some are elite, most are really good and some are just good. There is now room for a truly elite league comprised of the very best girls.

It was a silly assertion. ECNL picked up DA teams. Good ones and average ones. It only strengthened their position. One month ago they had 40% of the elite talent. Now they have 75%.

90% the true talent is held by 5% of the athletes in any sport. What is your definition of elite? Better than average?

I would say that in women's soccer in the US, the HS elite are best represented by those who sign LOI with NCAA D1 and D2 colleges.
One could extrapolate that to NWSL draft, but I don't think that's necessary.

If an elite soccer player is going to a D2 school it is probably not for the soccer there.

It would be interesting to see a list of exactly where ECNL girls are committed to by club to see if all the investment in travel soccer is sensical at all.

I'd love to see that for all current clubs. We see the club rankings favor ECNL clubs by a wide margin over the the GAL clubs, but how does that translate to individual success? Throw in NL while we're at it.
