There is some sort of "pro" club run out of Allen Creek i think. Maybe that's what they're basing it on?

Wow lanier and SSA -- neither team outside of SSAs legendary 05 team were that strong in dA in my opinion.

..... The league is also considering an Under-16 division, though there are no current plans for it to be included in the first season.Shouldn't adding a U16 team be a no brainer? Last year the more successful U17 teams were loaded with 03s. Many 04s sat on the bench or only participated in non-DA games. Incorporating a U16 division would ensure that ALL the players can stay with one club rather than ride the bench or find alternatives for a year.

I have to admit to major surprise that LSA got into the MLS league, however there have been a number of good teams over the years at LSA that slowly lost all of the best talent to DA and ECNL clubs and even RPL (when it existed). On the boys side if LSA can keep their best they can improve. It would be highly unlikely to be able to compete with MLS teams, but it is possible they will tier this league like they had DA do. That being said they should still let the local clubs play each other.

Agreed, the academy clubs will never be able to directly compete with the MLS clubs but I could see the academy Level teams strengthen and gain exposure to the level of the boys mid to higher ecnl teams And that would be huge for clubs like LSA

Conceptually, you are correct about a U16 division. However, at the Pro level, you should be good enough to "play up" so I don't have a problem with it in the realm of the Pro Ranks. With DA, I definitely had a problem with this, however, now that we have ECNL, you can at least park yourself in the ECNL for a year and still get high level play and development. AU may still have a standing U16 team who would play scrimmages against the local ECNL clubs, but it won't be official. Not sure how LSA and SSA will deal with this year-in/year-out but time will tell.
Additionally, one question that this raises is will ECNL clubs like CF lose former DA players to this new Pro-League? What about former DA players from UFA head to LSA? Now that positions are being offered to ECNL teams, will some now turn it down to go give it a shot at SSA/LSA to see about joining the top ranks in boy's youth development soccer. Is LSA really an Elite Destination Club? Will SSA "kinda" still get one of the CF ECNL teams and will it be their 2nd team or will CF now have players migrating over to join the SSA Development League???🤔

I don't know, but apparently Atlanta United is located somewhere off 16, and the Charlotte MLS team is in Raleigh..... Cost will be an issue for sure for Lanier, how do you keep costs down? That is a lot of travel, by the end of the u13 and u14 seasons, some of their teams were down to 11 to 12 players.

Nightmarish travel, at least for SE clubs. They didn’t put it together quickly enough. And MLS wanted out of DA because THAT league wasn’t competitive enough? They’ll get it right in a year or two.

Am I the only human on the planet against youth competitive soccer during the summer? I’ve watched some of the worst games of my life played during the summer months. Game 1 can be ok, but game 2 on day 2, kids are gassed. Throw in some crazy sub rules that the league will implement. Brutal heat Training 4-5 days a week all summer Parents losing their summer breaks also - god forbid your kid misses a training session for a family trip - kid will be benched for eternity No summer break for kids This isn’t going to end well......... Exactly. We need to drop this summer break nonsense and go to year around school. America isn’t based off farming and kids being home to tend crops anymore so why is our school calendar still based off it?

I still think the march-oct is an issue --- take SSA -- kid gets cut end of the season to make room for a better player from maybe UFA/NASA or even an Atlanta United kid-- the next team below has 18 kids already on it since they have been a team now for 2 months.
sounds like player movement could be a logistical nightmare -- then take the kid that gets "promoted" to MLS league from a local team.
They were playing ecnl , and just finished playing Aug-Feb, and now immediately jump on at SSA/Lanier or Atlanta United for another straight 10 months...

Yeah but wouldn’t it be amazing to have more vacation options from being able to take them in Fall, winter and spring without the jacked up summer prices? Plus how great would camps be that are offered year around? Ski Camp, Ice Fishing camp, Halloween Camp, Soccer camp at Disney over xmas instead of a tournament! “Mental break”?? So that’s what you’ve called the last two months with kids out of school too. Haha

But frankly I love summer. It is just much more mellow. My kids have not been out of school for the last two months. They have had remote classes every day on a schedule just like school with projects and tests and essays and the whole shebang. One just had the AP exam online. So a big fat no to the mental break the last two months. It has been more stressful than regular school!!! But in the summer when I don't have to worry about picking up supplies for the latest project, how they did on their latest exams or whether they are stressed out about some friend being stupid towards them...it is wonderful!!! Add in time in the pool or the lake and a nice trip out of town and yeah I love summer break!

Honestly, unless your child is at an MLS academy or is some phenom that is definitely destined to go Pro+, I would stick with the ECNL right now. Like others have mentioned, the travel cost alone is going to be astronomical and for what, for you to brag about Lil Johnny playing in the bottom division of the top league...
I think all the MLS clubs and the top non-MLS clubs like Barca Academy should be in that top division. Let the USL teams have their circuit. Then to fill in the void, have the MLS league play top ECNL clubs in a separate MLS ECNL division that won't count against the local ECNL club in their standings for the playoffs. So AU would play all the local/regional MLS clubs and some of the top regional ECNL clubs. Keep local rivalries going, ensures top opponents, reduces travel cost, allows for time to play in international and high level tournaments. Plus the MLS already does the GA Cup which encompasses all the MLS clubs in a top flight tournament...
Sample AU Schedule MLS - Charlotte MLS, Inter Miami, Orlando, Nashville SC non-MLS: NCFC, CF, CSA, Charlotte Independence, Tampa Bay Rowdies, Weston, Chargers

If its only u13/u14, it's not a big deal. I ask anyone on here to name one player on current AU team, they developed. GB was at another club for most of his early development. AU goes out and buys the next shiny piece.
