For those of you who are not fully happy with with your club, team or even a coach, I really wanted to give kudos to this team and their coach Nick Luscre. My son plays for Concorde and over the last year I have witnessed how this team under Nick's guidance has transformed into winners and smart players. Nick's personality and coaching style are what in my opinion soccer coaching and youth soccer experience should be. Kids always get challenged and he ALWAYS thinks of new ways to elevate them to higher level. I just wish there was was a way to clone Nick and put him to coach in every club because I have yet to see a coach who is a naturally born educator who so happened to also be amazing in soccer. And btw, their team barely lost a single games this season before covid hit and played against some of the toughest teams in Atl.
And please don't start bashing me for promoting the guy, because all I am doing is recommending him to those who want to put their kid(s) in a different team environment (once this covid crap goes away) . Ask yourself, does your coach goes to bed every day thinking how to make your kid a better player? If the answer is yes, stay where you are,if not call concorde's academy director from North location and ask about Nick Luscre (he coaches u9 and u12). I think all coaches in this location are phenomenal and have some very talented kids but Nick L is so special that it is hard to compare him to anyone else.

Appreciate your enthusiasm & glad you're happy about your son's coach but wins & losses of 8 year old's soccer games = meaningless To some degree I agree that it shouldn't be the main objective for u9 . In Nick's case his team wins because he motivated them to work individually on improving their technical skills and become smarter players - and NOT because he only cares about winning at any cost... and THIS is not meaningless...as far winning isn't important at this age (u9-U12) I will tell you this.... I don't care what coach are you but if your team loses most of the games, something is also wrong with this picture... Kids will lose confidence and parents (yeah there will be some patient parents but not many) will leave you too eventually . Those kids who will be working hard to improve in such a team will eventually leave not only a team but in some cases your club ... So I keep hearing how winning is not important at this age but I think the truth is still somewhere in the middle...

Just going to leave this right here..... No bone to pick here but why hasn’t this been posted in any one of the other multiple threads currently very active discussing the movement of players from club to club or even to specifically mentioned teams...? I’m much more of an observer on this forum than actual post generator, but jeez, seems like someone wanted to acknowledge something/someone in a positive manner and got “jumped on” (pun not intended but stuck with upon realization) for doing so. From what i can tell, the original post has been edited and we’re a week away from the deadline.... while all stuck away from the soccer field. Excitement over good teams, coaches, or programs seems like a reasonable thing to post about during this time. Just think sometimes it’s okay to bring a little positivity to this forum.

Nothing wrong with the OP, it was a broadcast rather than a recruitment/ enticement to a player. If you wanna shout to the heavens how happy you are, nothing wrong with that. Honeybadger has done the same with Norcross 05 SCCL and coach Claudin. Happy, proud parents are a good thing, especially given the political nature of youth club soccer (politics between families/clubs/players/coaches/etc...not US/GA politics).
Also, shaka's response is valid.

Concordedad, it's awesome that you are happy with your son's coach. Just one honest question. Do you have experience with any other Academy or other travel level coaches by comparison?

Concordedad, it's awesome that you are happy with your son's coach. Just one honest question. Do you have experience with any other Academy or other travel level coaches by comparison? As far as other academies we have always been in concorde but I'm friends with parents whose kids are in NASA, UFA ambush and santos. We talk about their teams and coaches all the time and while it might anecdotal, I noticed that at least of half of the parents I have spoken to (I would even say more than half) aren't happy with their coaches and/or club. And they give me their reasons such as, "our coach isn't teaching them right things", he is an intravert" , "he is too of an extravert ," we never win games", "we don't know what our clubs vision or philosophy is or do they even have one" - I can go on and on. I see most of this as noise but in every noise there are elements of truth and wisdom. For me I care about two things and this especially goes for youth academies ages U9-u12 : does this coach truly love his job and is always pushing and motivating these kids to improve by working on THEIR OWN outside of their 2-3 times a week 2) what is their coaching philosophy and HOW WELL do they do communicating this philosophy to parents. This also includes their overall communication with parents. My experience from talking to parents of many clubs (including our own in some instances ) is that the only time they see increasing communication from their coaches and clubs is when fees for camps, tournaments and other stuff need to be paid. Many coaches I have seen or heard of try to avoid parents ( yes they are some crazy ass parents out there I get it but I believe they are outliers by and large) limit their conversations on and off the field, rarely inquire about wellbeing of kids if they miss 2-3 practices and do very little to promote competitive spirit of kids by openly praising and giving recognition when it is due. I don't know if exhibiting this behavior is part of US licensing curriculum (I hope not cause that explains why US sucks in soccer on national level ) . Sure if you walk up to them most will talk to you but it should not be this way. When we are talking about young kids I'm looking for someone who is an educator and unfortunately I have not seen many coaches possessing this skill... May be it isn't a skill but a talent I don't know. If you are a coach reading this and you don't fall into that category of coaches I just defined then I am very happy for you guys and I wish there was a way to easier identify you other than "pick me, pick me" approach. There are mental, social, financial and other switching costs involved on moving from club to club... Clubs know it and in my opnion often times exploit it. So far I haven't found a better place than concorde for our kids and Nick Luscre is one of those rare coaches that I have been looking for (most of the other coaches I have seen there are very very good) ... Yes Concorde is not perfect but who is perfect?

Yes it is not perfect but who is perfect In the years of academy/select soccer we have had great coaches, indifferent coaches, lying coaches and coaches who don't know how to communicate. My older child has had 2 great coaches, 1 indifferent coach, one lying coach and one coach who does some things well but doesn't communicate to the players. This is in 2 clubs. Luckily my younger child has had one of the two great coaches. If I could clone him I would. I have begged him to take over my older kid's team again! One thing I would say though is that one of the great coaches we had was not well liked by another team. The one who didn't communicate to the players has been a well liked coach at other age groups. Some coaches are just better suited to certain age groups or levels of teams. The club and the coach need to match the coach's strengths to the right teams. It is rare that a coach can do all age groups and levels equally well.

I think this kind of endorsement is exactly what’s good about a local soccer forum.
I also wouldn’t mind seeing a coach rating system. Obviously some people will find a way to have a grudge against anyone.. but ratings would be useful and might even help a coach who is not given good feedback (for one reason or another).
As an example: I would love to have been cautioned against pre-paying one particular coach for extra training sessions...

Have they played against NASA Milton u9? From what I have seen that is the best u9 team around. In pre-covid days concorde and nasa ended up becoming like oil and water. There is a lot of bad blood between CF North location and nasa Milton largely because Mike Gailey who runs Nasa Milton and his history being director of concorde north. Basically 2 years ago right before summer tryouts he quit cf north and took half of cocnrode coaches and kids with him. This created a rift between the clubs and basically their policy now is to not play each other. I have seen some VERY talented kids from nasa Milton and in particular who is 10 years old playing for Gailey is one of the best I ever seen for his age. That being said i know many parents in CF North whose kids were trained by Gailey and they tell me this. Gailey has his favorites and he plays them more than anyone else even at young age groups... I personally never met the guy...as far as whether they are the top u9 teams I would guess they are probably in top 5 as far as their top team goes but here I would like to agree with many other people who commented: game wins isn't the only metric I care for at this age. It is important to boost kids confidence but shouldn't be the key indicator of how club /coach is doing his/her job.

I understand that there are rules that need to be followed as far as recruitment prior to May 1st but I would also like to say it would be great if we could rate coaches and express our experiences as well. Coach Saxon From CF central is good. It seems he does not have the fastest or most physical kids but I have watched both his 2009 and 2010 teams beat there opponents who were more athletic with shape and hustle. In fact his 2010 team does not have a goalkeeper. He is great with communication to his kids and instructs throughout the game. (I am a fan of coaches who dont wait until after the game to correct) Coach Jason Smith is very good as well. Told parents from the beginning I dont care about winning but as a result of POSSESSION SOCCER we will win and sure enough his odp team won regionals this year. This was not intended to recruit just giving my experience.

Like one poster already said about the 05 Norcross team and that parent the reason this isn’t relevant is that SCCL teams are governed by USClub rules and I don’t believe they have such language. Lastly, Concorde have been found guilty of this specific rule breaking more then any other club in Ga Soccer.

Keeper are CF teams still under GA Soccer? Think they’re purely US Club Soccer now, aren’t they? Either way, this thread seemed more individually-directed in a positive manner rather than thoughts on a club as a whole until your input. Normally I’ve been a fan of what I’ve seen you post but I’m curious as to what sparked your ire re: CF Edited: from my previous playing days (granted, been years now) at a strong rival of CF’s, i know my club had to deal with a lot of flak for recruiting as well (unfortunately this was done by my own coach at the time who still works at that club), so not sure pointing them out as a “clear leader” in that type of thing would be reasonable....

Yes all of Concorde’s academy teams except the U12 SCCL teams are registered with GaSoccer as that is the only option they have to register them. Unless USClub adds an “Academy” program, though as the way we do Academy in Ga is different from all other states I doubt that. That’s why USYS doesn’t offer academy either, but instead divides things between Rec & Select. You have your opinion, and I have mine. Others have agreed with me as well so it’s not like I am in the minority either. You as well as most are free to request the records from GaSoccer about ethics and rule violations as that is typically available on request so you can do your own research.

One thing I’ve learned about all these forums over the years is that there’s at least a 50% chance this poster is the coach he’s touting. Happens all the time. Take anything like this with a large grain of salt. That is a wee bit cynical, don't you think? 50%?

That is a wee bit cynical, don't you think? 50%? Not at all actually. If anything I think 50% chance is a conservative estimate. To what end? There will be only a few people that are in the area that will consider the club. Then of that number a few that have the correct age group. Of that number only half that have the appropriate gender child. So you have a CHANCE that you could gain maybe one good player from touting yourself. Seems silly to me.

I totally agree oldboy. The timing of the post (tryouts about to begin) and the tone of his post makes it sound a little too good to be true. I've seen these type of posts over the years from young coaches trying to make name for themselves or get some recognition. Problem is he is at the wrong club the higher ups at CF wont give two hoots about this kid and will take his players when they need them.

Of that number only half that have the appropriate gender child. So you have a CHANCE that you could gain maybe one good player from touting yourself. Seems silly to me. It would absolutely be silly. But it happens all the time. Especially with young coaches. In this case you have a young coach with his first good team. He’s also got a personal soccer training business he’s trying to build. Also trying to get some notice at a satellite branch from the big dogs of Concorde at Central so he doesn’t lose half his players to the internal recruiting that is a club feature at Concorde. I’m not saying this poster is the coach. Maybe this is the every blue moon post from a satisfied customer. But the post has all the hallmarks of a coach touting himself in a public forum right at the start of the try-out season. I should be clear. I don’t know this coach. Never heard his name before this thread. He could be everything this post says. But I still think roughly a 50% chance this poster is describing himself. Hi all, this is the Nick in question. Can take my word for it or not, I haven’t been a poster on this forum since my HS playing days (prior to DA rule if that gives you an idea of my age). This post was brought to my attention and, normally, I wouldn’t take the time to do anything more than be happy that what I am doing is appreciated and thank whoever it is whom is happy with my coaching. For me, coaching youth soccer is all about being a positive mentor to any and all kids I come in contact with - Leadership and Mentoring in Athletics was actually my thesis project for my Bachelor’s Degree. I don’t do this for accolades, “exposure to higher ups,” or the money I occasionally make from outside training sessions (I’m blessed that my wife is the breadwinner in our home while I stay home and take care of the dogs 😁). However, it does definitely pain me that the parent who took the time to post some really nice things about my team and, in conjunction, myself, is now being questioned to this degree. Like I said, I haven’t posted on this forum since I was a HS senior at a Cobb County HS program. Because the parent spent their own valuable time to recognize the work my team has done (we truly have some really awesome, motivated kids in our program and my focus is on their growth and development, not recruiting to replace them), I felt the need to sign up and create a profile to debunk this - in my very humble opinion - silly, cynical line of thinking. I’ve been coaching Academy and Select teams for just about 10 years now at 2 different clubs and don’t know any of my fellow coaches who would or have taken the time to self aggrandize in this way. Maybe it’s because I spend 7 days out of the week working with young athletes (outside of this pandemic), but I see that view as extremely cynical - maybe I’m used to more rose tinted glasses, though. To Oldboy, no worries that you’ve never heard my name before, you’re definitely not the reason I got into coaching, however, I’d appreciate you taking a beat from here on out before implying that someone you admit “you’ve never heard of” is a young, naive publicity seeker who “has his first good team.” Something about the many team pictures I still have from over the years makes me feel comfortable that that is an ignorant type of thinking. Again, I feel a bit silly myself having to address this but wow, this was a bit of a bummer to read after my initial feeling of warmth and appreciation. I hope to see many of you out at the fields sometime soon as I’m not sure I’ll be back to chat too much here, ha. Last thing I’ll leave you with is a hope that everyone remembers this is about the kids and the power of positivity is an awesome thing! Hope you’re all safe and well during these times.

Sorry Nick...there will always be haters... Look oldman and forum dude. If you two are coaches I can understand why you two are sceptics of me trying to spread a good word about Nick Luscre. After all you probably never received any praises from parents like the one I did and likely fall in the category of "coaches" (and very envy ones) I defined earlier in my thread. And if you 2 are parents then why don't go and do something useful... Like put a good word for your kids coach and do something useful...

To be clear, I have no idea who is posting in this thread or any thread on this site. Could be a parent that loves their coach. Could be Coach Nick (now with two accounts). Could be anyone. What I said is that this type thing should always be taken with a massive grain of salt. That is true no matter who is actually doing the posting on here. I was gonna say same thing lol 2 accounts? Talking to himself? Wouldn't be the first time. I also have never heard of this Coach Nick before today 🤷🏻♀️ Did he say he used to post here before while he was in HS? Was this forum even active then? His account was also just created.....

Not saying this is the case here, and IMO its a good thing that local coaches pay attention and contribute on here.
Pretty sure 2+ accounts were used by the same person in a couple controversial threads regarding a coach and club president. But this is the beauty of the internet's pseudo-anonymity.

I hate to break it to you but Concorde U9 North Black team has always had a “Beast of a team” from many different coaches in the last 7-8 years. “Competitive” Parents have been driving longer distances for their extremely competitive kids to Concorde to play on the top team. Just ask where they are driving from. Next season they will take newer players and so forth. Hope your child stays on top or else he will not get the attention or development he deserves for the $ you pay. Sorry, it’s my humble opinion, that you are a “marketing” tool for this already marketing club even at age U9. Concorde does great with winning at all costs but for U9 to U13 it should be about development and not wins.

C’mon man, quick rule of thumb should tell you a sentence starting with “sorry, it’s my humble opinion” and proceeding to call someone else a tool puts the mirror directly in front of your own face. This thread has become tiresome.
