At least on the girls side, I’m hearing the dominoes of Tophat losing DA and UFA actually being even more appealing as a ECNL club is drastically changing the landscape of teams not only on the ECNL teams but now at the NL/NPL level as some of the bubble ECNL players are scrambling for teams with college showcase exposure.

I also think the lack of a normal tryout makes it more uncertain. People don't know who is actually on the team in some circumstances. Usually you can see who is trying out and what field they are on and by the second or third night it is certain or nearly so.
At the higher levels your teammates' level of play is so important to how much of a challenge practice will be. It is hard to choose teams with that lack of certainty.

UFA definitely had dominoes from ECNL down to NPL which made movement upwards difficult if not impossible without girls leaving. UFA told us that if a girl was moved down from ECNL to NPL that the NPL team had to take them(assuming they were staying), would have been NPL down to SCCL-P(Forsyth, although i'm not sure that would have happened anyway vs finding another club). Our daughter seemingly was caught in the numbers game(or we're being lied to by coaches I suppose since we didn't witness it, but i'll give the benefit of the doubt) so we got her in the tryout yesterday at AFU and accepted their offer to play for them. Very stressful few days of uncertainty but she's happy(so are we) now that it's over.

The year of the age group split was the most movement. Everyone's team got blown apart.. so a lot figured it was as good a time as any to move.

No, sorry she trying to move to the NPL team and got squeezed out by someone coming down from ECNL but I haven't independently tried to confirm that(i'll find out eventually but it doesn't really matter). That's what we were led to believe at least(wasn't told it was skill related), but with things the way they are with tryouts better for her to just accept an SCCL offer and lean towards that side of the NPL/SCCL debate lol and see how things go in the fall. There were around 12 girls yesterday at AFU tryout for ECNL/SCCL, how many of them being serious about moving I guess I don't know.

Girls UFA Norcross 05 SCCL picked up 1 ECNL player and 1 DA player because of who the new coach is. 3-4 SCCL-C/SCCL-P kids are getting looked at this week to round out the roster.

Pretty sure my daughter was also caught up in a numbers game at UFA-Forsyth. She went to an eval over the weekend for the ECNL team with the ultimate goal of maybe getting on the NPL team. Afterward, her current coach called her to see how things went. She was told that there would not be a lot of room for upward movement at her position because the NPL team was basically full at her position.
She knows of girls that were bumped off the NPL team down to SCCL-P or whatever it is called now. She also heard from a friend that the NPL team did get some players that didn't make the ECNL cut. This supports the info above that there was downward movement from ECNL to NPL to SCCL, thus making any upward movement almost impossible.

GA ECNL spots did not go down. Rest sounds right. SSA put 2nd team in NPL every year, this year UFA putting 2nd best team in NPL too and 3rd best in SCCL, AFC has all their top teams in NPL rest in GA Soccer. Charleston coming into NPL will be a strong addition, not sure on the rest. So the confirmed league order for this year without a doubt is: 1. ECNL 2. NPL 3. SCCL-Club 4. SCCL-P1 5. SCCL-P2 and so on First two both have a pathway to a National Championship through US Club As for NL / GPL / Classic / Athena and the movement here and the Carolinas, big question at this point, at least they still have the oldest National Championship pathway. And let's not forget the above US Club teams are mostly Atlanta metro, and Georgia is not only Atlanta. This is it for now, and who knows for next year once USL Academy and MLS/USYS kick off February 2021 with brand new platforms on both genders.

Intersting haven’t heard much from the Atlanta Fire ECNL impact from this year. Wondering if they have been impacted too much?

Intersting haven’t heard much from the Atlanta Fire ECNL impact from this year. Wondering if they have been impacted too much? They had about 12 girls on Monday for a tryout for ECNL for 05s and I think 06s although I don't know how many spots they actually had open. Was told 2 girls moved up from their 05 SCCL team, which opened at least 2 spots on that team filled from the tryout from UFA dominoes of ECNL/NPL.

Wondering if they have been impacted too much? 04 ECNL - they added a few girls that came from the Rush breakup 05 ECNL 3 girls left for GSA ECNL and I think one was supposed to come from UFA's old DA team. 06 ECNL - As someone stated earlier, an 06 was moved up to 05 but didn't hear about a 2nd one.

AFC 06 Gold girls has seven players leaving for ECNL promises so far during this draft season. Some driving all the way across town to UFA and others poached to CF premier. Even heard TH calling. Not sure if the erosion of this team is complete yet but definitely lots of movement.

Not sure if the erosion of this team is complete yet but definitely lots of movement. I hate to say it, but it was probably necessary. That team is very good and NPL was getting weaker with the loss of Charlotte Independence North and South to ECRL and Wake to GA. That follows the loss of CSA North and South last year. If those AFC girls who are now rising freshman (mostly) wanted to develop even faster they needed to get into ECNL (or GA) because of the erosion of NPL IMO. Plus the exposure of being in ECNL vs NPL is a huge difference. The older you get the more the level of your team the previous year matters. It becomes very hard to break into ECNL from outside. The kids cut from one team often get handed spots in another team over a better quality player trying to move up but coming from a lesser league. They were smart to get into ECNL now.

Not sure if the erosion of this team is complete yet but definitely lots of movement. Shame they have to leave-not sure why AFC isn’t in ECNL esp. on the girls side. Seven? Once again AFC loses a ton of good of players to ECNL clubs. AFC has couple disadvantages but also a major advantage to become an ECNL club. The major advantage: There is no ECNL club in Georgia south of Atlanta. CF uses GSP for games only and that's as south of the state as you get. All GA ECNL clubs are based and train in North Atlanta, leaving a large part of the state unserved, out of ECNL or making commute very difficult for players and families willing and able to be part of the only top league available today (DA gone). The disadvantages, two of which may sound political: 1) AFC's success record is nowhere near NTH or even SSA to stand a chance for an ECNL spot comparison next to one of the other two clubs, under the current ECNL application criteria. 2) GA ECNL clubs apparent conflict of interest. Guess where those players went to play ECNL, and make those teams better. If AFC was an ECNL club, would have likely kept most players and probably gain a few new ones especially south of Fayetteville. Only TH due to its unique culture at the time had been able to hold on to its players under TC's leadership and staying solid before finally becoming an ECNL club the first time. We all know the rest of that story after that ... 3) The AFC leadership and its relationship with other nationally recognized clubs and US Club/ECNL. AFC is one of the oldest clubs in GA with many State Cups and two National Championships but most their glory was over a decade ago. On top of that new programs have emerged in south Atlanta, branches with pathways to ECNL and USL, making the competition for a small (compared to North Atlanta) pool of players harder: SSA in Newnan, MOBA in Peachtree, AFU in Hampton, and CF in Fayetteville (until couple years ago). AFC, SSA, just like the NTH case but for very different reasons point that something within ECNL and current soccer scene isn't right. The long NTH threads reveal some hard truths on TH but only tell part of the story.

There was no talk of moving up or down to SCCL from NPL or SCCL-P 'automatically' like there was with the teams just at Forsyth, so anyone wishing to go to Norcross would have to tryout like anyone else. One benefit of staying at Forsyth would be playing up where necessary, while that won't happen at Norcross. There's also the distance between the two I guess, if you live in Cumming or north you may not want to commute to Norcross. /shrug

I'm just always stunned at how much easier it is for kids to leave their own club to move up the ladder vs staying put. So many kids i've heard offered ecnl spots for example at other clubs, but not even given a look at their own club.

It's worse when the club is preaching 'promotion from within'.. then they go fill every available spot with outsiders.. over and over again.
