Anyone see or have thoughts on the GSA 06G ECNL team against the CF Platinum 05G ECNL team? I saw score was 1-1. I know GSA 06 was at the top of the standings for 06s and I assume CF Plat 05s were at the top for their age group. Was the game fairly even? A true 1-1 deserving game? Even if it was an even game I still don't think you can make anything out of it. Here are some recent NTH scrimmage results. 06 gold vs 05 navy 1-1 (not a full scrimmage, bad weather), 06 navy vs 05 navy 0-0, 06 gold vs 05 gold 2-2. Does that mean 06 navy and 05 gold would be a draw as well? Highly doubtful. I did not see all of these scrimmages but I know that each team had some good days and bad days. Everyone is rusty and inconsistent (team wise not necessarily each player). Did anyone watch the first few Bundesliga and EPL games? I did. There were bad crosses and ill timed passes and missed gimme goals all over the place and those guys are pros who were off 100 days or thereabouts. We are talking about teen age kids who have not played a scrimmage/game for at least 5 months and in some cases 7 or 8 months. Some of these kids grew a lot or developed a lot technically and their teammates need to relearn their pace and off the ball runs and tactics and all of the timing that goes with playing good soccer. This season should have an asterisk next to the first 4-6 weeks in my mind. It will take them at least that long to get back into the swing of things.

I don't even know what you're trying to say. But I know I'm not the first one... Can you elaborate? In non-gibberish speak? She is saying that 1 parent set the whole thing up as a package deal. The 9 players would leave TopHat to go play for Concorde, if they also were going to be coached by the coach they wanted. Concorde agreed, and the 9 families left to go to Concorde. Some of those players had already been at Concorde and left for TopHat a couple years ago, but decided to head back when DA folded. I believe I heard the coach has done private training for some of those girls in the past, so they knew her and wanted to go play for her.

OK gotcha. I knew they (Premier) were at one point in time but thought I remembered Platinum being ahead of them in the last season standings but I couldn't find last years results anymore. Either way I assume Platinum is still towards the top of the standings for that age group. Seemed like a good result for GSA 06 if it was even with an age group one year up with a team near the top of the division. You were correct that 05 Platinum was the better team last season with a higher standing at the end than 05 Premier however it was close. 05 Platinum also has several new players this year from NTH who probably need to gel with the rest of the team and learn the coach's philosophy. I don’t know for sure every player who left TH for that Concorde team, but I know for sure some of the ones who left played for that coach before they left Concorde for TH DA. He’s a great coach. So those particular girls are probably pretty familiar with his style.

I'm not trying to draw any conclusions from the game score but like I mentioned you can tell a lot about what kind of team it is if you are knowledge of soccer even with rust. Just like the 07 CF Platinum team you can tell should be a good team but they had many bad moments to inferior competition but it was obvious they had some very skilled players who were better than those they played this weekend.

No I did not see that game though I know several kids who played in it on both sides. I was a bit busy watching my kids play in the Concorde tournament and elsewhere. However my point stands and rust and new coaches and teammates matter. Don't draw conclusions based on one game, especially a preseason game played after 5 months minimum away from games or game-like scenarios. In addition to all of that there are skilled players galore on CF platinum but as we often see with AU academy players if they don't play like a team then they will get beat by inferior competition at times. I do not even need to see the game as I have seen CF Platinum players play on many occasions over the years and one of my kids has played with and against the majority of those players and even some on the 06 team at GSA before the age group split. 05 Platinum underperformed at this tournament compared to what they should be doing. The more important question is why they underperformed against everyone they played. Are they still experimenting with positions? Is it the rust? New players and new coach? I think it is all and thus I don't worry about it nor do I think it reflects on them or GSA 06.

A few of the girls from the Tophat team got left out of the package deal because they were not liked by the Mastermind Moms. 3 went to UFA, and a few stayed mostly the Metro North girls. Despite that, the Tophat GAL team will be strong and will rebuild.

The core of that 07 group spent less than a year at TH. A number of them are returning to Concorde with one of their stronger players being originally from RSC. Which is the link that got them all back together in the first place. With that said, I saw 07 TH GA L and dpl play in friendlies this wknd, in some cases against NASA boys teams... they’ll be just fine! Like I’ve mentioned before, this will be a fun age group to follow all season. Agree about the Roswell player, I thought she was the best player on the team this weekend, she scored the majority of the goals.

I have not seen this team play this year and don't know if that is what has happened or not. Does anyone know? As an aside they do have a new coach so possibly there is some difficulty adjusting???

The long ball style does not age well because eventually maturation of the girls kicks in. At the higher level of girls soccer...and I'm speaking of ECNL...all the girls are fast, athletic, usually big...and the long ball doesn't work. Case in point, Concorde Premier 05 is sitting in 9th place with a 1-5-1 record. This team was the second coming a couple of years ago...now look at them. I have watched this team play twice (both losses) this season. If I were a midfielder on this team I would run away as fast as I could before my skills erode even more than what they already have. JMHO New coach. 3 starters out with injury (2 ACL tears). They are working out the kinks but it might take a while. I feel like GSA is the club that plays long ball the most. GSA 05 had a rough season last year. On paper they should have been much better but they finished near the bottom of the table. Their version of long ball seems to be working great for them this year though. I think they picked up a few better players to send it to up top.

Seems like there have been a lot of ACL tears this year. Possibly due to training sessions being interrupted by covid and too quick to return to full activity. At least that is what I have been hearing. GSA added a few really good goal scorers this year. The best teams seem to change in ATL due to migration of the best players.

Considering the age group and level being discussed. Should style of play (long ball vs playing out the back) be based upon on talent on hand or dictated by club or coach historical practices?

Unfortunately, I have noticed a LOT more ACL tears this year than previous years. It definitely is a shame and seems to be getting more prevalent in girls soccer. I think most every team has one or two in the U16 and above age groupings.
Switching gears, with the demise of DA, most teams picked up additional players...really good players. Look at the pickup by Concorde Platinum, GSA and UFA. I doubt AFU picked up anybody but the others definitely did.

I think the players being referenced here Con Plat, GSA and UFA (one from TH one from Rush) are primarily from old TH DA teams. Some may have wanted to move anyway, but the fear of not playing ECNL AND the uncertanty of GA led most many to leave. Kudos to the teams who bettered themselves. I agree with an earlier poster quality players make quality teams. Poor coaching can limit quality players AND great coaching can LIFT teams...

GSA picked up a really great goal scorer from AFU. AFU did not pick up any Tophat players in 05 age group that you are referring to.

Also pretty hard to beat teams that give up 1/2 a goal a game. That team is gonna be hard to deal with.

Look at the pickup by Concorde Platinum, GSA and UFA. I doubt AFU picked up anybody but the others definitely did. I too have heard of an uptick in ACL tears this season. Sadly, in my experience female soccer players tend to be afflicted with this particular type of injury somewhere in the neighborhood of 5-10 times more than our male counterparts. Because soccer is what it is with the twists n turns n pivots and rotation to keep up with the play or players, we all already naturally put undue stress on the ACL. For the female soccer athlete, you have the added benefit of the alignment of the hip and knees and in women the femoral notch(ACL lives here) tends to historically narrower. So to reduce the chances of this make sure your private strength n conditioning coaches are aware and employ exercises that strengthen the ACL and teach girls how to exercise to their benefit... Here are two articles that may give more info for those of you with female soccer stars in the family: - www.soccertoday.com/acl-injuries-why-female-soccer-players-are-at-greater-risk-what-you-can-do/- www.usyouthsoccer.org/news/acl_injury_and_the_female_soccer_player/
