Well it seems like most of the teams from FL are pulling out so no games in Tifton, at least for our age group. So that just leaves local scrimmages against SC teams.
We were charged for the game played in SC a few months ago, which I can understand with travel expenses. But $35/40 per player to play a single local scrimmage? What gives?!?

15-20 years ago ODP used to be the best of the best (minus the players missed), hoping to get to Region pool/team and dreaming to eventually get to the National pool/team. ODP is now average in quality at best, older ages especially. If it's ever going to improve, I think the purpose of ODP needs to be redefined after the creation of all the new elite leagues (DA/ECNL etc) and ID programs.

ODP team strength depends on age. Friend of my kid played for 4 years. That team had 6 or 7 players who were ECNL National Finalists. The also beat several DA programs in scrimmages.

Here are the FACTS on my out of pocket costs for ODP: $18.75 per training session ($300 / 16 sessions) $35 plus gas for SC friendly in SC $0 for Atl Utd Friendly $175 for Nashville plus gas, food, and lodging - 3 games ? for SC Friendly in GA ? for NC in June Also received a GA soccer hoodie, 2 GA soccer training jerseys (love the logo), and 2 GA soccer t-shirts. My opinion on ODP (take it or leave it): 1) there is a lot of value for the dollar for my kid compared to everything that is out there (camps, RDS, private lessons, Toca, etc). All we wanted were extra touches on the ball. 2) my kid has made friends with other kids from other clubs, which is a positive. 3) my kid is playing at the level where he belongs (I am not delusional). 4) the coaches for our age group range from good to excellent, though KH is unnecessarily mean at times even though he is technically not a coach for this age group. He tends to show up a lot. 5) the parent volunteer administrators are also very good. The communication was rocky to start, but has improved a lot. 6) if you look at it like extra training with no expectations to end up on the USYNT, you will be fine. 7) GA Soccer is not profiting off of this, if they are covering their costs at all. Think this probably gets to the heart of it. ODP used to be perceived as more of a pathway to usynt. Now it is mostly for extra coaching/touches and meeting other players. I think the current situation is fine if your expectations are in line.

Agreed regarding touches and expectations. I never complained “publicly” about the cost of training or the TN trip, which are reasonable. Why local scrimmages cost $600 or so per team per game is what I can’t wrap my head around. Refs + field rental + coach does not equal that. I mean our club team has local scrimmages and we don’t get hit up for extra fees.
Now to pay $35 to play half a game... any good 3v3 tournaments next weekend instead? 😜

Wish they still had them every weekend in the summer like they did 4 or 5 years ago.

SC didn’t even bring a full team, so this is more of an intrasquad game with a sprinkling of SC players

GA Soccer... New Executive leadership. New staff. New DOC, new ODP staff... yet the same ol', same ol'... That's pretty disappointing and says a lot about why people are jumping ship.

Kid played for 4 years. Great experience. Made Alabama team 3 times, also made Region Pool. Training was inexpensive and held at Atlanta United training facility for several years. No complaints here.

The 06G games against Florida were pretty good - each team won one. (0-1, 4-3)
Aggressive play on both sides and some great individual performances. Obviously the girls weren't totally used to each other and some were out of normal position, so it looked like some of them were trying some new things (which is kind of the point).
No complaints from me (except the fields were too narrow and a bit choppy).

SC didn’t even bring a full team, so this is more of an intrasquad game with a sprinkling of SC players What age group was that? 06B First game SC borrowed players from other SC teams Second game SC borrowed players from our GA team So essentially we played the same core 06B SC team twice but with a few different players each game. 😔

The 08 SC team borrowed a GK and 5 field players for our game, and then we sent our other GK and five other players in the second half. Both teams played with one sub and it was a 4-4 tie so at least it was competitive but kind of annoying to pay for this.

Not to downplay some of the issues that parents/kids have had with GA ODP, but some of the recent issues sound more like an FL/SC ODP problem than GA ODP problem.

Yea, even 5-6 years ago it was obvious many states didn't take ODP as serious as Georgia. I remember talking to a parent from a northern state, an she basically said, any kid that showed up basically made the team.

There are issues with GA ODP. Many, many issues. We’ve moved on-not going to rehash them. It’s up to the individual as to whether it’s worth dealing or putting up with.

Yea, even 5-6 years ago it was obvious many states didn't take ODP as serious as Georgia. I remember talking to a parent from a northern state, an she basically said, any kid that showed up basically made the team. Sounds about like this year. I would say previous years the selection process was a better than the current year. I'm sure the no tryouts due to COVID affected it some but this year seems to be more about replacing the lost revenue from teams not participating in Georgia Soccer with adding players. I am a supporter for ODP in general. It is relatively inexpensive training, extra-touches, different positioning, different coaches, different kids to play with, etc. However this year has not been a great experience. I think the the organization, player selection, and coaching has all been worse than previous years. I won't completely write it off since this is Kostas' first year over ODP and COVID was added to the mix. They seemed to have done a better job with some of the younger ages and perhaps that was their goal.

Not sure why the entire concept hasn't been modified starting with the name -- ODP
The Olympic Development Program (ODP) was created by U.S. Soccer for two purposes: to identify national team players at the youth level. to provide development opportunities for these potential national team players
