From a team standpoint Ga soccer offers a higher ceiling. Win and you advance to NL Piedmont League. SCCL top league is club and that is certainly watered down this season.

My son's team supposedly earned promotion to a higher Premier level this fall based on their top-2 finish in their division last fall. But this fall they were placed in the same division as last fall and told it was because too many new clubs came into SCCL from Georgia Soccer. His team has 10 games this fall whereas as the division below him has 12 and one of the divisions above him has 13. Such an arbitrary mess. Well the number of games in Georgia soccer was not even either so that is not a reason to go back to it. Some divisions had 7 teams and some had 14. The pro/rel issues were also contingent in Georgia Soccer. Adding or losing players from your team or others changed placement there too. However it seems to be a bit of a mess this year in SCCL. I think the first year when it was only club level was run well but the more levels they added the worse the organization got. I don't have any kids that played SCCL ever including now, but I do have a younger kid that is getting to that age so I hope they fix it. For the record, I wasn't suggesting to go back to Georgia Soccer. Didn't like that any better than SCCL. And agree that the first year of SCCL when it was just essentially "Club" level was a breath of fresh air at the time- nicer venues (with tents & water for the players), trainers at the field, consistent & timely scheduling, and overall very solid competition. Now it's just the old Georgia Soccer with a different name and less benefits.

I'm a little dissatisfied with SCCL for the first time this year. I think it is growing pains that has caused most of theses issues. With so many clubs abandoning ship from Georgia Soccer, there were bound to be growing pains.
That being said, my kid, if not happy with how this season goes may be going to tryout to be in a club back in GA Soccer next Fall. We will see how this season goes before he makes that decision. He is already a little upset he made the decision he made this season to stay at his old club. One more bad season and he is definitely gone.

Hey I heard of a great goalkeeper clinic that's starting September 24 for 6 weeks every friday night. My daughter has trained with the coach and she absolutely loves her training. She is a former pro and all-american. Here is the link to the clinic. If you have a son or daughter ages 6-13 that wants to get better training or interested in being a goalkeeper this would be something to think about. Goalkeeper Clinic

Goalkeeper ClinicShe sounds very qualified, but it’s priced far too high. Could be that I didn’t read it correctly, but I saw $400 for six sessions of 6-13 year old group training. Way too much. Maybe that’s the rate in NY, or LA for quality group training, but not in Northern Atlanta suburbs. Also, I’ll apologize in advance if I’m wrong about this, but this is looking like a clumsy self promotion of something that is completely off the thread topic.

Going to be even harder after Nancy’s firing from SCCL too. Not even sure who’s taking over or if it falls all to Drew now. Sounds like Club level could disappear after this year with the new leagues. It had its purpose to get away from GA Soccer and the Premier leagues are set up to continue league play. I hadn't heard Nancy was fired. Anyone know why?

Hadn't checked out the forum in a long time but the SCCL has gone down hill since Nancy's removal. I asked her why it happened and she said that she was told that they wanted someone who understood Got Sport better than her. She said that she believed that the real issue was that she was the only employee and getting paid a part time salary or a job that was full time. As a club administrator I can tell you that I miss her help and her knowledge as this has not been easy.

Well, given how long it took for schedules to come out, it appears they're slipping. Really, how difficult can it be to use a new scheduling system (not blaming her, just their excuse).

SCCL did just hire Tom Phillips to take over as League Director. Sounded like they needed someone to be Admin and Director and that just wasn’t Nancy.
Having actually talked with Tom and the changes he has already made and wanting to do he sounds like the real deal. (No more stupid sub rules, changing club passes to 5 from 3, and a few other things to keep games going on but also remembering these are just kids)

I hope that he gets the support and resources that he needs.

I would just hope that he is proactive. Release schedules asap.
