...this is just going to be a side effect of that for the foreseeable future where businesses just don't want to be part of the spread of the virus. Just FYI, the science is clear right now that both vaccinated and unvaccinated are spreading the virus.

Just FYI, the science is clear right now that both vaccinated and unvaccinated are spreading the virus. To the unvaccinated who are getting sick(er) than breakthrough vaccinated people They have made a dangerous personal decision to not get vaccinated, unless they have antibodies from previously having the virus. That said, them getting sicker shouldn't bother the rest of us. Both vaccinated and unvaccinated people spread the virus. The virus isn't going anywhere, get use to it even if we were at 90% vaccination rates it is still going to spread and be around.

Multiple teams pulling out of the SSA tournament at last minute and now referees having to withdraw.
1. TEAM WITHDRAWALS - Please continue to check your schedule through the course of the afternoon and evening, since we are still making adjustments and canceling games based on recent emails from teams informing us that they are unable to play this weekend. 2. REFEREES - Just as we are having teams withdraw, we are also receiving word that some of our assigned referees are having to withdraw from the tournament also unfortunately. This is especially challenging when we have multiple referees from the same family. We are working to fill the holes as best we can, but given the late notice, it's inevitable that not every game will have a full crew unfortunately. As such, we would ask that you assist any centers by using a club AR (a parent) if possible and please accept our sincerest apologies if your game is one of those affected.

The Concorde tournament was a disaster. When they were short on referees and had to use a parent, the parent could only notify the center if the ball was out of bounds. The center would not consider the parent's view of whose throw in it was or if a player was offside. The result was that offside was only called on one side of the field where an official AR was located. Other side of the field was free reign to camp out offside because center either could not or would not call it.

Only a certified and in uniform Ref can call fouls or infringements. A biased volunteer is only allowed to call if the ball leaves the field of play. All I gotta say is get your kids certified and never ever yell at a Ref during a game. No matter how bad they are.

By "the tournament was a disaster", do you mean it was impacting almost every game in the tournament in a significantly negative way? Or was it more isolated to a few games here & there? I genuinely curious, because this is the first I have seen in terms of a complaint like that about the Concorde tournament, and usually if there's a major issue like that it's trumpeted far & wide on this board. I agree that it's annoying when a parent has to A/R, but I've come to accept that it's going to happen every once in a while & it's not the end of the world. Usually it's because an A/R doesn't show up or is late, so it's out of the two teams' or clubs' hands. What's the alternative- cancel the game?

All I gotta say is get your kids certified and never ever yell at a Ref during a game. No matter how bad they are. If that is the rule, it makes no sense. From what I have seen, most parents who end up being the AR can be neutral and call what they see even if it is against their kid's team. What is the point of having a parent stand on the sideline to signal in bounds or out of bounds, without signaling who it was out on. If the center can determine who it was out on, the center can just as easily determine if the ball is out of bounds. Ball in or out of bounds is far less impactful to a game than an offside call.

At Lovejoy, the shortage of refs either not having enough, showing up late or not showing up at all, impacted a number of games. The disaster part of it was having parents be ARs but not allowing to notify center about who the ball went out on or if offside. I saw multiple games where obvious offside calls were not made by center even though parent AR signaled that it was offside.

Part of the reason that SSA can't find refs is that there pay scale sucks, especially when compared to SCCL pay rates. Here is the pay scale:
SSA Tournament Pay Rates: Age Center AR 7v7 25 13 9v9 30 15 11v11 (13/14U) 35 20 11v11 (15/16U) 45 25 11v11 (17/19U) 50 35
SCCL U12: $60/$35/$35 U13-16: $65/$40/$40 U17-19: $75/$50/$50

So at that point who do the blamers get to blame??? Easy answer- the anti maskers/anti vaxxers. At least those that are getting vaccinated are trying to be productive and contributing members of society, in addition showing they are about others.

Again, both vaccinated and unvaccinated people are spreading covid. I would get your point if the vaccine was designed to stop the spread but it is just designed to reduce the severity of the symptoms.

So tired of the Facebook infectious disease experts saying "but you can still get COVID with the vaccine" I'll say this slowly for the people that refuse to understand...just like seatbelts, motorcycle helmets, flu vaccines, etc NOTHING is 100% effective, its about MINIMIZING the risk and effects in case you do get the virus. 95%+ of the people in hospitals with severe symptoms are unvaccinated patients. Vaccines work- ever wonder why we don't have rampant cases of smallpox, measles and polio anymore?

Vaccines work- ever wonder why we don't have rampant cases of smallpox, measles and polio anymore? To be fair and balanced you also have to acknowledge this is a vaccine that is not fully approved by the fda and will likely not be for quite some time for younger people. As an FYI, I work in medical technology. My wife works compliance and regulatory affairs for a large pharma company that offers a Covid vaccine. There are two sides to this and it’s not as easy as “everyone should vaccinate.” Israel should be the poster child at the moment. They also count those with active antibodies as fully vaccinated. And their testing was far superior than our testing. But back to topic, I’m a certified ref and wish I had time to work some of these tourneys. And the rules for a guest AR are 100% needed - they shouldn’t be calling offsides at all. Most aren’t qualified to do so.

Great, let’s couple vaccine hesitancy with bunking players together in poorly ventilated, tiny hotel rooms in Greenville a week before league games begin. Add to that quarantine protocols designed for old, unvaccinated adults. What could go wrong?

Add to that quarantine protocols designed for old, unvaccinated adults. What could go wrong? Easy answer is don’t go. You have that choice. And in your situation right now it might be best to stay home. I’m sure your child will survive missing a tourney/friendly/season match. Putting meds in a body is much bigger than soccer. Lots of people should get the vaccine. Children, in my opinion, shouldn’t. Again it’s a choice. I’m pretty sure missing a game in Greenville isn’t going to be a life changing event. Put your big boy or big girl pants on and decide for yourself. Others should do the same as they make an informed choice. The fact that people that are unqualified to discuss this are deriding people on both sides is stupid and quite frankly disgusting. If I’m looking for insight on soccer I’m damn sure gonna listen to a top hat coach. Or Concorde ECNL coach (maybe 😜). Medical decisions are a personal choice and we shouldn’t be pressured to do anything by idiots on a message board. And I’m definitely not against the vaccine in many situations.

My family is all vaccinated, so no problem with life as usual for us. Most of our team is as well, but I guess you couldn’t tell that my point was that if one player on any of these teams is symptomatic and tests positive it affects everyone on the team under misaligned quarantine protocols. And since we have to operate under these protocols, it’s probably not wise to have 3-4 players rooming together a week before the season starts. Incidentally, there is certainly a lot of hubris on display regarding this topic so you never know if someone you’re calling an idiot is actually better connected and knows more than you or I might.

If you scroll up a few posts a moderator of this board (whom I enjoy reading their soccer takes/posts) seems to be a “get the shot or you’re not a productive member of society” type of person. If they are still a Coach and are pushing this type of message it’s incredibly irresponsible. For example, I’m incredibly fit by all appearances but have a congenital heart condition. My doc has urged me not to get the vaccine or at least to wait since I have tested positive for antibodies multiple times. But in some people eyes it’s cut and dry - get the shot or you suck at life. Reading your last post it definitely feels like you are more irritated about the protocols your club has versus whether folks vaccinate or not. I personally think there should be more common sense and consistency by the clubs and schools. And the pessimist in me thinks club decisions are still more about liability than safety.

Funny how no one is mentioning that hospitals across the country and here in Atlanta (i.e., Grady) are at capacity. They are full of unvaccinated patients, not vaccinated ones. So if little Susie breaks her leg during a game or God forbid a family have a car accident or other medical emergency like a heart attack or stroke there isn’t going to be any beds left and that is squarely and solely on the shoulders of the unvaccinated. I am not talking about those who have medical conditions preventing them from getting vaccinated but those who let partisan tribalism stand between them and getting a vaccine. I just cannot understand. Like the perfectly fit 49 year old I know who just left his three kids fatherless because of ignorance. Or the lawyer I know in the ICU fighting for his life who has four children.

Georgia has a total of 22,577 staffed beds in hospitals As of July 26, 1390 Covid patients were hospitalized with another 299 considered under investigation. Grady’s 7 day average of Covid patients is 56. Out of a possible 458 hospital beds. These are numbers published and easily found. Don’t let facts get in the way of a good story though. (As an aside, Grady in 2019 had several hundred more beds available but due to a water pipe burst they lost these and have not replaced them due to budget issues.) A typical hospital runs between 81-84% capacity at all times. Hospitals are for profit. If they have 50% of their beds free they will not be in business very long.

Little Suzie and her parents made the personal choice to play in that soccer game, family members make the choice to drive or ride in a car, dumb masses make the choice to eat crap food and not exercise as well but when someone chooses to not put an experimental concoction into their own personal bodies you say that’s a problem. Hospitals can build new buildings and hire more staff as well and if COVID sticks around like it looks like it will I’d guess that’s what will be happening

A typical hospital runs between 81-84% capacity at all times. Hospitals are for profit. If they have 50% of their beds free they will not be in business very long.
