What is the protocol for when a player on a team unfortunately comes down with Covid or is exposed to a close family member that comes down with Covid in regards to their team? Only asking because I'm hearing some teams at different clubs are already in quarantine process due to exposures. Please I lets dispense with the political rhetoric, just asking what teams, coaches or clubs are doing...

Typically just the player in question quarantines for 7-10 days, I haven't heard of an entire team at TH that's had to quarantine.

Not sure about now but late last spring our entire team had to quarantine for at least 7 days. each player had to confirm they had no symptoms over the 7 day period and show proof of a negative covid test taken after at least 3 days after the covid exposure. the only exception was if someone had been vaccinated or had covid within 3 months. i believe we were following fulton county schools guidelines. I don't know what the protocols will be now.
This is from the SSA Classic Tournament
SCHEDULE ADJUSTMENTS DUE TO COVID-19 TEAM WITHDRAWALS: We are receiving emails from registered teams on a daily basis informing us that they have team members that are having to quarantine due to a Covid-19 positive test and/or Covid-19 close contact. Given how close we are to the event itself, we are past the point unfortunately where we can make significant changes to divisions in such a way whereby we can still guarantee a usual 3 or 4 game schedule for teams in the affected divisions where a team has to withdraw as a consequence. As such, if a team has to withdraw from a division, it's likely that we will have to cancel the team's games and look to issue a partial refund for the other teams in the division. If your division is affected in this way, we will update you accordingly.

AFU shut our entire ECNL team down for 7 days due to a player and his mom getting Covid. Neither were vaccinated. Heard Steamers and Rush are following CDC guidelines so only the player Quarantines if unvaccinated and comes into close contact with someone that tested positive. Vaccinated players only need to Quarantine if they show symptoms. www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/if-you-are-sick/quarantine.html

I imagine things will be different this year than last and could change yet again. Last year the whole team had to quarantine for any player testing positive. I think with many older teams having vaccinated kids/parents and with newer CDC info it will be different. I would guess the younger teams with no vaccinated kids possible it could be different by age group.

So being outside at practice wouldn't be included, except for say U11 boys who are wrestling on the field while coach is on his cell phone. Haha

We are in quarantine currently for 7 days and missing the cesa friendlies because of it. Most of her team is vaccinated but one that wasn't got it.

Our experiences last year was don’t ask, don’t tell. We had several players that we knew had Covid and disappeared without saying anything. Others we knew that were supposed to be on quarantine due to school but still attended club practice.

It's going to be interesting to see how this affects teams and their regular season. I currently have heard of 5 teams at 3 different clubs who are in full-on quarantine - at least officially from club practice and activities...

My daughters team (college) if you are vaccinated you are fine unless you have symptoms. Then test. Only quarantine if positive. If unvaccinated but not deemed close contact with infected person, test only with symptoms. If unvaccinated and close contact, test and quarantine until negative result.
(However throughout the season unvaccinated players will be tested weekly and will be subject to additional periodic random tests. It was brutal for my daughter last year)

It seems a lot of organizations and teams are following if vaccinated and no symptoms no quarantine. Your club's rules seem pretty harsh.

And there have been studies done that show that outdoor sports are incredibly low risk for Covid exposure if one of the players has it. And that was for all unvaccinated players.

Please I lets dispense with the political rhetoric, just asking what teams, coaches or clubs are doing... There is no quarantine for the team if a 3rd party is involved. What I mean is the only way a team needs to quarantine is if a team member or coach on the team that has been around the kids in the last 3-5 days (6 feet 15 mins) tests positive for covid. If a person on the team was exposed by a family member or somewhere else only that kid needs to quarantine. Now subsequently that kid or coach should go ahead and get a covid test so that if it is negative, the team knows that he didn't have it the last contact that person had with the team and they are good to go. If the kid does get a positive test within 3-5 days of being around the team then and only then would the whole team need to quarantine. All of that above is for unvaccinated people. If the whole team and coach are vaccinated then there is not supposed to be any quarantining at all, but with so few kids actually vaccinated I doubt that would actually be the case for most teams.

We had a kid last year whose mom tested positive. She just had to quarantine, but the entire team did not. I assume it is the same this year.
The way I see it, these kids are outdoors. Even if a player tested positive, I do not think the whole team should have to quarantine. I would not even keep my daughter at home if she was in contact outdoors with someone who tested positive.
The schools in our county are not even quarantining close contacts at the moment, and that's in an indoor setting.

Not to get political but half the time I don't think they know what you should be doing they change it so much. I know of an incident on my son's team last year when the schools were being strict on close contacts and making people quarantine. The parent was chatting with me about his kid having to quarantine, but it was like a Monday. I just told him if I was him I would just go get him a covid test on Friday afternoon and if negative I don't see why there would be an issue with him playing with the team that weekend as it would have been 4-6 days past the exposure. The kid got one, was negative and played with us and he never got covid.

The problem with all the vaccinated v. unvaccinated is it completely ignores the immunity provided by antibodies after you have Covid. An experimental genetic therapy (mRNA is not a vaccine, but a therapy) isn't the only way to gain immunity. Not sure of your status? Give blood every 8 weeks, get a free antibody test.

Ugh. I take covid seriously but outdoors is low risk. I'm not sure what our club's policy is. I hope the whole team won't have to quarantine if someone gets it. The players are too young to be vaccinated, hopefully soon.

An experimental genetic therapy (mRNA is not a vaccine, but a therapy) isn't the only way to gain immunity. Not sure of your status? Give blood every 8 weeks, get a free antibody test. Oh I'm all on this. The Federal Government and CDC refuse to even acknowledge natural immunity from recovering from Covid as just as good if not better than the vaccine. My whole family have antibodies, and I had been checking my antibodies every few months. We pinpoint to all of us getting it sometime October-November of last year. None of us had symptoms, but we all test positive for the antibodies now and still do even 6+ months since we had it. Before you all post a couple of the mainstream media experts and articles saying what I said above is not true, I have read 5 different peer-reviewed medical journal studies that show natural immunity from having covid antibody wise is as good or even better in some of the studies than the vaccine immunity. As of now the CDC will only publicly talk about the one Kentucky study that showed that to not be the case which is funny since that is the only study that actually confirms their bias. I feel like they are being political with which science is talked about and which science is being ignored when its all relevant and unbiased scientists will actually admit as much as well. So the way I see it. I will take the 5 peer reviewed journals that show my point versus the 1 that doesn't just because there are more studies that say one thing is true versus the other. Only time will tell ultimately when more studies are done and reported on, but right now I am going to go what the majority of the science says and that is that natural immunity is as good or better than the vaccine. Until our family's antibodies go away none of us are getting the vaccine, as it would be redundant and serves no purpose since we are just as immune to covid as a vaccinated person is.

This is AFU. According to my 16 yo, "most of them were vaccinated", so not confirmed on that, lol. I had hoped the ones that were could at least practice but I guess I should just be happy it's 7 days and not 14 like last year. It sucks missing CESA though, she's bummed. Yeah they sat out 08s boys last week for that and we missed Concorde. Not sure the logic but at least it sounds consistent. I'm going to be completely honest. I would just handle it per the CDC guidelines as a familiy, and if that means there is no need for the team to quarantine due to it being a 3rd party issue then there is no point in even telling the coach or team. Tell them your child isn't feeling well, and you hope they get better soon, and then to verify go get a covid test on like day 4-5 and if they don't have it, then go train and play with the team. It seems some people are going way overboard with the quarantining or they aren't reading the guidelines right, so its best when that situation is occurring use your common sense and the CDC guidelines and just don't tell the people that are going way overboard unless your kid actually tests positive.

FWIW I spoke to AFU about it, ultimately if I read between the lines it's about not knowing who is vaccinated vs who isn't(And not wanting to ask due to the politics over it) and the rise in cases in Gwinnett schools. It does sound like they didn't take the decision lightly and have consulted with hospital and CDC specialists in making the decision. Honestly we all know this is a difficult decision to make, especially with how polarizing the topic is (masks, vaccinate) they are erring on the side of caution. I know I certainly don't want to argue about vaccinations with anyone, but if people are choosing not to get vaccinated then this is just going to be a side effect of that for the foreseeable future where businesses just don't want to be part of the spread of the virus.
