* FIFA to test automatic offside technology next week in preparation for Qatar World Cup (yeah because VAR has been easy to implement)
* The Orlando Pride plan to hire Amanda Cromwell, current UCLA coach, as their next head coach (rare to jump from college to NWSL)
* Is Bobby freaking Woooood back? Wood scores to push underdog RSL past favorites Sporting KC in stoppage time
* In next year's world cup in Qatar, either the Azzurri or Ronaldo will NOT be in attendance as only one of the two teams will qualify (if Italy fail to make the 2nd straight WC
* Orange County SC beat the Tampa Rowdies to win the USL-C title
* Goodnite

IMHO I think so too, however, I think it stings a wee bit more because last year's awards were scrapped, where he more than likely would have runaway with the award. Side Note, not having the awards, surprised me, they could have done the awards virtually and shipped the trophies to the winners. With that said, Messi didn't have a crap year either. 41 goals and 17 assists is nothing to sneeze at, but compared to Lewandowski's 64 goals and 10 assists. I think 2 additional factors are adding to the backlash we're feeling and hearing about. One is the fact that weariness of either Messi/Ronaldo winning with a splash of Modric in 2018. Also, Messi couldn't lead Barca to a first/second place finish. Personally, I think Messi was rewarded for winning the first major trophy for Argentina...

Glad he's forging his own path. He was always a reliable backup to Guuuuz I don’t know FCC goalkeeper situation. Do you think this gives him a better shot at being a starter? It’d be a shame if he goes there just to train and sit behind somebody else like he did here. I’m honestly ready for a new starting GK here. In a salary cap league it’s foolish to spend big dollars on an old GK with poor distribution skills. Brad is good but not great enough to justify tying up a bunch of salary cap space.

He was offered the starting position in Cincinnati, you can't blame him though. He would likely sit behind Guzan for another two years and he wants to play. Rios Novo is capable of being a #2 for a few years in Atlanta.

ATLANTA UNITED: All 2021 Goals first one was the best one - and the compilation is a reminder of how many games I missed due to not having Bally Sports network. Is it a MLS rule that teams cannot make their own local broadcast deals?

Is it a MLS rule that teams cannot make their own local broadcast deals? MLS cancelled all local broadcast deals and bundled them with national deal in an attempt to make an MLS tv rights deal seem worth more than $90M/yr without USNTs.

Although their team has been dreadful he’s a good GK. Hope he does well. He will get a lot of practice. This. For a good youth keeper that wants to develop into an even better keeper going to a team that’s in the lower half of the table can be key. There are obvious drawbacks. However, the number of shots, crosses, corners, 1 v 1s, and distribution they get; along with running the defense for nearly 90 minutes is the polar opposite of what they will see if they’re yawning in the goal of a team that sits at, or near the top of the table.

I don’t see how they’ll get a better TV deal when the last/current one did so poorly. But strange business deals happen all the time so I guess time will tell.

I'm hoping AK will get a fair shot at FCC, he's worked hard and has earned it. On a personal note- Alec was a great help to my daughter in her recruiting process. With everything going on with COVID and playing for a smaller club, she wasn't able to get the attention of as many college coaches. Alec really picked up the slack and made it a personal goal to get her to the right place. This involved not only training- but endless film sessions, calls to coaches, letters of recommendation, etc. In the end she had a number of offers from schools that had never seen her play in person (Inc SEC, SOCO, BIG South, and American Athletic schools). At one point during all the conversation I asked him what she should lead with when talking with coaches- meaning Shot blocking, distribution, etc. His answer surprised me- Lead with Academics. There are players everywhere who have all sorts of skills- but working to get good grades shows a coach you are serious about college in general, and are a low risk to be a headache. Also, with soccer budgets, many times you can earn more academic scholarship money than athletic. Doing that makes you even more valuable to the team.

MLS Homegrown making moves...
FC Dallas have transferred homegrown and US men's national team forward Ricardo Pepi to German Bundesliga side FC Augsburg, it was announced Monday morning. The 18-year-old joins through June 2026 with an additional option year, all via a reported $20 million fee plus add-ons. That would make Pepi the most expensive outgoing homegrown player from Major League Soccer, at least upfront, after Vancouver Whitecaps FC transferred Alphonso Davies to Bayern Munich in 2018.
The move constitutes a club-record transfer for FC Dallas.

For Cherundolo - 6W 3D 23L as manager of LV Lights* in USL seems like an odd spring board into the manager at job at LAFC. Regardless, I hope it bodes well for GA native Cal Jennings in 2022, having been one of very few bright lights in Vegas as he was loaned back and forth all last season (from LAFC).

From Charlotte Independence SC: “ G ECNL DIRECTOR RUSTY SCARBOROUGH TO RETIRE IN 2022 Rusty will be missed and the club is better for having him on our team! A well deserved retirement ahead for him!”
