What would the email look like? "I am interested in your team and would like to come to a training session before tryouts?" I have never heard of going to training sessions early outside of your own club. My kids just show up at tryouts and/or ID Camps for the teams they're interested in. It seems a little awkward to throw your kid at a coach beforehand when they could go to tryouts like everyone else. If a coach reaches out that's a different story. Is it all based on who you know? I mean how do the coaches even choose which kids they let come to training sessions? I'm definitely not involved in the politics of soccer so this is very intriguing to me. Things are taken as rude or snarky here at times. Not my intent with this. That's absolutely what you do (referring to the quote in your first line). The nice thing about ID camps is that they can see your kid play and then invite them to those training sessions after if they're interested. One thing I learned a while back when it comes to club soccer - don't be afraid to advocate for your kid. You're basically like they're agent. Don't wait for tryouts to be the first time a club/coach sees your kid unless they're Academy age. U13 or higher - you want to get your kid in front of the coaches before tryouts. Agree. My older kid has been on teams with people trying out early (last year and the year before covid) and has also participated early in sessions twice (not including covid year). My kid even helped a coach do tryouts during covid so that the coach could evaluate her players against my kid to determine their level. It is helpful to get a look by the coaches and for your kid to get a feel for the team and coach.

We are walking in blind this year. We usually know at least one coach. My wife is better at the getting to know coaches part. I just want to be sure that we don't annoy coaches or push too hard before tryouts.

How come no one tries to openly recruit for players on this forum?

How come no one tries to openly recruit for players on this forum? Sometimes they do. If a specific team needs a specific position they will often post it but usually after tryouts or right before. At least that is how it seems. That may be due to surprises as to who leaves.

How come no one tries to openly recruit for players on this forum? I think most people already know the good players and recruit them directly. Why use a public forum to do that?

Not publicly on the forum, but by a forum private message.

Not publicly on the forum, but by a forum private message. So people know who you are by your post content I’m guessing? Or is it blind solicitation? I’m talking publicly come out and say I’m with 2005 KSA, for example maybe I am maybe I’m not, we need defenders come on out. There could be decent defenders on a top local team not getting a lot of playing time for various reasons that might be open to something like this. As someone else said the “good” players are known but not everyone is.

That may be due to surprises as to who leaves. I can confirm this. I've seen this also. Usually either during tryout week or the week after. Example: SSA 05 Girls team needs a keeper (insert position here), please contact blah blah blah for more information". Generally older teams, maybe 3rd from the top when they get lean on players and want to get a team filled out.

I read a lot that parents should reach out prior to camps or tryouts but then I hear coaches saying stuff like they want to hear from the players? I have a coming into U15 will be freshman should I be getting the coach info but having her make the contact or do I setup the she will be at camp stuff and then make sure she does the nice to meet you coach do you have any feedback when she goes to camp?

Tough call. I had my older one do the talking to the DA coach (a few years ago obviously) and it was ok, but that was in person. Emails and phone calls were not dealt with as quickly or as well. Some coaches are horrible with emails or on the phone. Some are great. I think at U15 it is still ok for you to be involved (1/3 of those kids are 8th graders), but by U16 try to step away. Sometimes though you still need to be involved and advocate. Some coaches are just a-holes. You may have to protect your kid.

I heard SSA is offering current players and making them sign something before tryouts?
Can anyone confirm or deny this?
Is SSA scared to lose players after a poor year in GA? Hopefully the parents are smart enough to realize they don’t have to. I guess all clubs to some extent try to keep players the wrong way

They only offered a few current players per team. So those people are getting threatened/pressured to sign right now before they even have their own SSA ID, while the rest of the team just realized they aren't valued. It sounds like a big mess. That being said, if there are girls at clubs where DPL is the top team (Santos, Inter?) and they really want GA, the SSA Sunday ID is a must. Big business soccer strikes again. Customers, what customers?

Maybe they are moving players from another club, I’m just speculating-no inside knowledge of SSA.
