These are some of the colleges attending the AU College Showcase this coming weekend as of January 21st. Others have committed, but that list has not been shared with me yet... Army West Point Belmont University Brown University Clayton State University Clemson University Davidson College Emory University Furman University Gardner-Webb University Georgia Gwinnett College Georgia Southern University Georgia Southwestern State University Georgia State University Hampton & Sydney College Indiana University Le Moyne University Life University Mercer University Merrimack College NC State University Northwestern University Nova Southeastern University Oglethorpe University Ohio State University Stetson University University of Alabama at Birmingham University of Central Florida University of Kentucky University of Montevallo University of North Florida University of North Georgia University of South Carolina USC Upstate Virginia Tech Wake Forest University Great list - and I want to make sure people are aware that the Ivy League’s antitrust exemption from the Improving America’s Schools Act of 1994 has finally been allowed by congress to expire, meaning they will have to compete with each other by offering academic and athletic merit based scholarships. So now the middle class actually has a chance to attend those institutions without setting themselves or their families back a decade financially. Unfortunately, the CF Platinum 07s have had to pull out of the event due to so many players out with injuries. Have a great weekend at the training ground! That’s too bad about the CF 07’s, but not surprising.

Sure - that having been the problem with the Ivies being an option for my son who ended up choosing West Point, I was shocked when a Riverwood football player committed to Brown along with the news that he received academic and athletic merit scholarship money, so I checked it out. It might be kind of a Wild West situation as each school is now on their own to decide how they will handle this new reality. Here is an article from Yale about the situation. You’ll need to talk to individual schools I suppose to understand their individual policy going forward. IMHO, this is not just good for athletes and the middle class, but good for the country as a whole. yaledailynews.com/blog/2022/12/08/following-antitrust-expiration-merit-and-athletic-scholarships-become-an-option-for-the-ivy-league/

Should be an interesting season -- I dropped apple tv after ted lasso season, not enough there to continue paying monthly. the cost of MLS for me is to much, otherwise I'm paying more than when I had cable. It's getting ridiculous. And it's not really about the money, its just getting ridiculous as we have documented to keep paying for all these ala carte services etc. I also like to channel surf between games/sports etc, locked on a single streaming platform sucks in my opinion.
Lastly -- every youth soccer play registered should be given MLS season for free!

MLS on apple TV is a no for me dawg.

That coach rosters a lot of kids- why not give those guys an opportunity to play in front of those coaches even if it’s not your preferred starting 11? They are full ECNL players that train with your team day in and day out. Or why not give some Premier players an opportunity? They’ve earned a playoff spot and are ECNL players. Seems the coach only cares about how he looks and results. Not one college coach attending will care about the score lines. It says a lot about that coach and about the club for not overriding his decision to pull out. They should have given players the opportunity. But again - not surprising.

Lots to unpack here.
As someone already said, the AU event came up after NTH committed to Charlotte Tournament. Although NTH chose it to support another club (and for the return support), a benefit was to expose the NTH ECNL squads to different styles of play in preparation for nationals. In terms of being seen by scouts, there were over 150 college scouts at the older NTH matches at the Florida showcase so they’re being seen (with followup calls)-not to mention most of the older players have offers lined up.
As to hiding players from AtlUtd, that’s silly. AU scouts talk to NTH coaches and come to matches all the time-not to mention the kids on trial now.
As to wanting to play MLS Next, still weaker league in SE if you look at college offers with rare exceptions (excluding AtlUtd). Looking down age groups-not seeing changes in younger age groups. Will it change in future-not so sure with it being created for MLS’s benefit-not the kids.

A quite talented player who seemed to possess very little between the ears. Flashes of brilliance surrounded by bad decision making. Hope he’s grown up.

eMLS Champion - Two weeks after Atlanta United’s Paulo “Paulo Neto” Neto beat Ehsan “Lamps” Zakeri of Minnesota United to win an eMLS series championship, he did it again on Sunday, edging Lamps 6-5 on aggregate to win the Series 2 title in New York. Can we now add stars to the crest?

Here’s an idea: have homegrown players feature in matches rather than some below average guys from Argentina.

If your not a left/right back, stay away from the homegrown designation that's for sure.
Conway is done with the first team, he'll only get minutes if someone gets hurt and the club is desperate. Will be interesting if Wolf makes his way back, his brother is playing well in Austin.
Here is my problem with US soccer and the MLS in a nutshell. A young South American is worth millions, a young American is worth only 75K on a homegrown deal.

I use to follow the academy more, not so much now, but one thing I will come out and say is it’s a shame they are letting 2 of the best of the ‘05 class head off to Clemson. They have been nothing short of fire on the pitch.

Ask AC about passing up other opportunities to be an MLS home grown.

The new MLS Next Pro league, of which AU2 is now a member, just released the 2023 schedule. The have some interesting rules, especially with substitutions and injuries(real or fake) AU2 2023 Schedule: www.mlsnextpro.com/clubs/atlanta-united-2/schedule/#date=2023-03-26 No ties, you go into a PK shootout, with the winner getting 2 points and the loser getting 1 point; Implemented midway through last season, both the Off-field Treatment Rule and Red Card Suspension Rule will also return in 2023. Under the Off-field Treatment Rule: If a player is suspected to have an injury and is on the ground for longer than 15 seconds, medical personnel will come onto the field to evaluate the player and assist him off. Once the player is off the field, the player will be treated by the medical staff and will be required to remain off the field for three minutes. Under the Red Card Suspension Rule: if a player receives a red card, he will serve the resulting one-game suspension against that same opponent. NEW RULE To further decrease preventable match delays and increase effective match time, this season will see the addition of a new Timed Substitution Rule, which will allow a maximum of 10 seconds for a player to leave the field when he is substituted. If the player does not leave the field of play within the 10 seconds, the replacement player will only be able to enter after a 60 second holding period, resulting in the offending team playing a man down for a minimum of one minute.

Another one signed from the talented 2005 class... This is a somewhat surprising move for Alan given his older brother's history with the club. Can we assume from this that the family does not think that Andrew took the wrong route by signing a homegrown contract?

Another one signed from the talented 2005 class... This is a somewhat surprising move for Alan given his older brother's history with the club. Can we assume from this that the family does not think that Andrew took the wrong route by signing a homegrown contract? For transparency, I do know the parents. Other than to call and congratulate them we've not had that conversation and honestly wouldn't bring it up unless they did. However, I also think they are realists and believe that the situation with his older brother was not entirely of AUs doing. There is enough blame to go around. Finally and IMHO, I do not think Alan is interested in college but does not have the resume to warrant another club outside of Atlanta signing him to a pro-contract... In other news, I believe this 2005 group may be the most talented class in AU's short history of existence. I'm sure I've missed a few, but so far, this is what I have been able to cobble together: Homegrown Signing Homegrown Signing AU2 Signing AU2 Signing Crew 2 Signing 3rd Tier Bundesliga 4th Tier Bundesliga Clemson Clemson Georgia Southern Kentucky Kentucky Michigan Oregon State Virginia There would have been a third Homegrown, but sadly he got injured during due diligence period a couple of weeks ago😢
