AC1 is playing soccer for a living right now so I have to imagine his experience played into the calculus for AC2. Congrats to the kid. Reminds me of the MLS homegrown brothers from Philly, a little.

Yea, if you have no interest in college, then jump all in.
Personally, I'd use the game to go to Stanford, UVA, UNC, Duke, Ivy league or another top intuition that otherwise is out of my league.
I do find it odd, one was announced as a homegrown and the deal starts in 2024.

His HG deal doesn't start till 2024 because for this year/season, there is only one spot left to fill on the supplemental roster and you normally save that to bring up a needed AU2 or HG player currently on a season long loan to AU2(Justin Garces & EFrain Morales). Last season they were able to bring Aiden McFadden up when there were injuries as an example... www.atlutd.com/news/atlanta-united-announces-2023-roster-ahead-of-season-opener

I apologize if this is taking the wrong way. I'd signed some of those college kids before the few they recently selected. But hey, I don't get paid the big bucks like the MLS gurus do. I mean lets be honest, there is a reason why we have won so many World Cups over the years and played in so many World Cup semi final games as a nation -- These MLS execs are all knowing compared to the rest of us.
It's one of the biggest problems with soccer around the globe --- you have your phenoms (who most wash out by 18), then the next group of kids. That next group, beauty is in the eye of the beholder and it's so subjective, especially when playing in a position where there aren't hard statistics to measure your success.

For all you Gunners, you may not have to cross the pond to watch your Premier League champions (if they can hold off City). Hearing that English Premier League side Arsenal FC will be the opponents in this year’s Major League Soccer All-Star game. Arsenal is owned by American Stan Kroenke, who also owns the Colorado Rapids. This year’s game will be played on July 19 at D.C. United’s Audi Field in Washington, D.C. Traditionally, the coach of the host city coaches the MLS All-Stars. England legend, Wayne Rooney is currently D.C. United’s head coach, meaning he is slated to oversee the MLS team against his former Premier League rivals. Let's hope Rooney keeps the wheels turning after starting off with a 1-1-2 record to kickoff the season. theathletic.com/4326465/2023/03/19/mls-all-star-opponent-arsenal/

Right up on the list of dumb with the livestock sale where a player gets assigned to a team that is not of their choosing. Inserting a vanity marketing exhibition in the middle of the season is the opposite of competition. I suspect Rooney will quit pretty soon anyway out of frustration with the contract rules. And losing. …It’d actually be pretty funny if Caleb Porter was brought in only to have his post game handshake rejected by Arteta.

Time to get rid of them I loved them as a kid, getting to see my favorite athletes in one place. MLS is a bit strange…would be better to be all MLS all star. But, if I go, at least I’ll get to see Arsenal scrimmage without hoping the pond.

They have to seize this opportunity that's been given to them. Happy they're being given an opportunity. I still feel for the likes of Morales, who just always seems to draw the unlucky card...

OMG, I go away for one weekend and this occurs. 😵 💫 Couple that with the loss by AU2. It was definitely not a good weekend for ATL. Did not get to watch the game; what happened? Coaching, offense go cold, defense, midfield, etc.? I know we were missing some players for the National Team call-ups, but... and how do we look so sophomoric? Meanwhile, St. Louis City is 5-0 to start its inaugural season. I thought they were the startups not us 🙃

Atl had no answers. I would say that they looked like a USL side…but really, not that good.

Playing through an international break is just so bad for the league. Such a bad look in my opinion.
The excuses were flying for sure, but Crew threw a very young team out there

This past Monday, April 17th, began the process of culling the ranks of the AU Academy. AKA Cut-Retention day...
So far I've heard the following (subject to change):
U12 - Unknown* U13 - 6 U14 - 7 U15 - 10 U16 - 7 U17 - Unknown U19 - Graduation-AU2-Trap Players
*The word is AU is contemplating getting rid of the U12 and U16 age groups entirely. The plan is to move the current U12s on to U13 and eliminate the age group going forward. Additionally, the current U16s would become the new U17s and the current U15s who have not been cut would merge and play with the upcoming U17s. Goal is to cut approx. 18-20 current players from the academy...
side note: I am hearing that there are quite a few unhappy players within the academy. So far 4 have or will opt to not return(not cut) and join their previous clubs instead of returning to AU in the fall. AU needs to revamp, reassess and revamp the AU Academy, otherwise they will go the way of the Orlando City academy...
+Updated with current information

W0W, guess it makes sense, if you're going to merge the current U15s and U16s, into next year's U17s. I hope they find a home and their families are willing to put in the work and gather a village around to support them. When you play at a club like AU, at such a young age, it becomes your identity and the world is not kind when it's ripped away from you. Worse yet, is you don't have the skills to handle the fallout, the questions, etc. Wishing them well 🙏

I wonder if the new Exec in Charge is moving the AU model towards what he was used to in Seattle. Keeping only the U15s and U17s...

Never been a fan of combined age groups like the old DA mentality. I've seen kids playing for AU2s that struggled against their own age group when playing competitive teams non mls local teams. The UFAs, Concordes were very competitive with mls teams in the old DA world. NASA obviously would be now also if they were given the older age groups back then.
To me as i've said before, the academy is now out of sight out of mind. Kids have very little interaction with the AU academy kids now. play them in friendlies and/or occasionaly invited to training sessions, but its really 2 100% different soccer bubbles.

With this is mind, maybe going to the Sounders Academy model is the way to go. They use a program called the Discovery Program to keep local kids involved with their local clubs through the U14 age groups and bring them on to the Sounders beginning at the U15 age groups. I think it leads to a better adjusted player, getting the opportunity to play with friends, develop organically and smaller players are given time to catch up to their peers so they too get a fair chance in lieu of being passed over because they haven't had a chance to develop... www.soundersfc.com/academy/sounders-discovery-program

Sounds like to me that AU Academy may have figured out that they can let the club academys train the younger players and then because of the prestige of being a professional player, which lets be honest, is what these young girls and boys want to aspire to, take the clubs best players when they are mostly already developed at the U14 a 15. The question should be now is what are those AU coaches going to be doing now? Enjoying some youth soccer games and scouting is my guess. Atlanta loves home grown players and I think we know the talent is here.
