Taking this out of the girls HS soccer thread for visibility and focus: Yes city of Roswell let Mike F go on April 28. Haven’t noticed the mass exodus of coaches from there? It was not a santos decision but a city one. The city wanted him to implement all this new policies and protocols that they’re making all the other sports do, and he wouldn’t because they don’t make soccer sense. Wasn’t aware. Has a replacement director been hired? Operating under the thumb of a city REC dept must be challenging. I was surprised Mike was able to get city sign off to join US Club (for SCCL) a couple years ago..

Can't talk about Santos, without talking about their legendary 00-01 girls team. I think they rose from Athena C to RPL. legendary. If i'm not mistaken, that team also during that run went toe to toe with many ECNL teams. could be wrong, but it makes the legend of them that much better. (sorry don't want to hijack the thread, but that team was legendary)
anyone who ever mentions Santos, by federal law should have to include a bullet about the girls team, it was the equivalent of an cindarella final four run over 3-4 years.

When your academy teams did well and subsequently went up to Select.. and then still got placed behind new/previously nonexistent teams from “big clubs” for U13.. stuff like that could still happen. But mostly the kids scattered after that point. Kudos to those who stayed and succeeded. Beats the crap out of a two hour drive for soccer practice.

Which coaches have left in the exodus that has been referred to? Reached out to a family friend who are at RSC and they said both their coaches are planning to stay.

Mike leaving is a pretty big change. While I think changes like that are unsettling for coaches and parents, the one thing Santos can do is just listen to their parents. Santos is definitely a community club, so as long as they keep the parents/customers and their needs front and center they will be fine, but the moment you stop doing that you will have issues.

Santos is a great club! This reason given for his departure sounds totally bogus. I can almost guarantee you it has nothing to do with the city ordinances or requests of the city made upon the DOC. A sudden untimely departure after a long tenure does not add up to this.

A sudden untimely departure after a long tenure does not add up to this. Maybe he just got sick of being told “no”. With all the league changes happening every month I can imagine it was hard to drag the city along. At some point you just get sick of stuff like that and start to explore options. Curious where he lands - it’d be pretty wild if he went to the new AFU location five minutes north of Roswell.

You should see me trying to explain what each of the leagues mean to my parents. And they have been watching my girls go through the soccer landscape for the last 10 years.

Any word on who has/will be taking over now that tryouts are starting? DOC still says open on their website, but they have a full coach list linked on their tryouts page. Seems like they don't have many other gaps.

Santos is a remarkable club, and Farnham's departure is not totally bogus. Farnham was at odds with the Santos board for years (at least two different versions of the Board). The club had recently missed league application deadlines, and coaches were leaving due to frustrations with the club management. The final meeting involved the City of Roswell (Farnham's official employer) and the Santos Board, possibly consisting of multiple members. The exact trigger for the decision remains speculative, but his leaving was presented as a "mutual" agreement. Unfortunately, there was no successor prepared for the Director of Coaching (DOC) position when they parted ways. Currently club intends to restructure itself to resemble organizations like UFA and Concorde. From what I've heard, their objective is to avoid having one single person controlling the entire club, as many parents, players, and coaches were dissatisfied with Mike's recent management decisions. I understand that Mike is now the academy director at All-in FC.

Website says DOC still “open”. No idea what the impact has been. Anyone see any discernible change?
Honestly I’m not sure what a DOC does anyway except taking the group that looks like the strongest team(s) and taking a cut of tournament fees. But Roswell killed their only tournament (remember their annual 5v5 event) a LONG time ago.

The fact that they were able to compete in SCCL in recent years still amazes since it’s an all volunteer board (mainly parents of young kids and new to the club soccer scene) mixed with city staffers. OTOH it’s a city of 100k with tier 1 facilities, and lots of good long time coaches.

And of course after U13, almost everyone on the team went to join in ECNL teams.

Does anyone know Kevin Kratz? It was announced today that he's the new Santos DOC.
