We're to the midway point of the high school season and club tryouts will be right around the corner. Any news on potential coaching moves for the upcoming season?

Expect Gsa 2010 ECNL and RL to get new Coaches as Judson and Chad have had those groups since U12s and will probably take the 2012s.
Concorde 2010 ECNL Platinum should be keeping Eddie H, the RL Platinum will be getting a new coach. Premier side, Mark C should be keeping the ECNL 2010s and the RL team out of South just got a new coach as of January so doubt that changes.
Concorde 09s John will probably have to drop the ECNL Platinum due to coaching at AIS. Ecnl Premier and RL Platinum look to be keeping Brian and Rivah.

For this reason coaches of high school teams do one of two things generally. Coach the opposite gender U15 and up or ALWAYS coach U14 and younger teams. On occasion someone from a small school might keep a gap year team just because the numbers are low and chances low of an overlap but it does have the potential to cause problems so most just avoid it altogether.

Very true but unless things have changed, Jonn coaches the boys at AIS and girls ECNL.

GHSA put out rules interpretation last year that no longer allows boys club coaches to coach high school girls at the same school or vice versa. I know a coach who had previously coached girls in club and boys in high school who was told specifically by GHSA that his boys team would forfeit all games that he coached if he didn’t choose one or the other team.

This is unfortunately correct and ridiculous to me. I know a coach that coaches girls in club and boys in high school and he cannot add any girls from that high school to his club team- or even have them play as a guest- because of the rule. It makes zero sense to me, but then again, much of what GHSA does rules & structure-wise doesn't make a lot of sense.

I get there being some kind of rule, maybe a max number of players who play on your high school team or even at your school that you can coach on a single non high school team, but to not allow any is ridiculous. I think high school coaches are allowed to work with individual players or groups in the offseason - up to four maybe? If that's the case, that should be the max allowed on a non high school team that the coach coaches as well.

If players from the same high school that plays GHSA sports play for one coach and evidence is submitted to GHSA that proves that, then the high school games where the players played for the coach are forfeited. But it’s not as easy as just making an accusation - evidence has to be presented. GHSA does not seek out schools who violate the rules.

I think she would just have to make sure that players from her club team aren't on her HS roster.

I'm very curious about 2009 and 2010s girls coaches at GSA/Concorde/TH if anyone has any insight TH, next season is the year 2009 Gold should get Troy....but who knows for sure. I know this past season TH tried to limit coaches to be Head Coach for two teams....2009 Navy will likely Tyler again (but he coaches at Lovett) GSA 09...correct there be coaching changes... CF 09....Jon should be keeping Plat (regardless of GHSA talk)....Brian will keep Premier CF 10...Eddie should be keeping Plat (but helps coach GAC) ...not sure about premier

As crazy as that sounds.

Meaning, High School coaches can work with players over the summer, but as soon as school starts again in August, they are not allowed to be working with their players...as Club Coaches or in Private Sessions.

I’m assuming that means he’s going to college or pro. I don’t see why you would leave unless there were internal issues but hard to see what those would be.

Are there any Chamblee girls parents here who can clarify the exact rule? The exact rule from ghsa, 2.69 (c) A GHSA coach (certified teacher or community coach) may not coach a non-GHSA team in a competitive setting during the school year that includes any player(s) who participate in the sport he/she coaches at the member school. EXCEPTION: In a situation in which the child or step-child of the coach is the only player on a non-school team from the coach’s school, the coach would be exempted from this rule. This rule states if a soccer coach is on the staff at a member high school (head, assistant, or lay coach) and coached club soccer in the fall, that coach can’t coach ANY player, male or female on any club team and that is also in the soccer program at your high school, INCLUDING THE OPPOSITE GENDER TEAM. www.ghsa.net/reminder-soccer-coaching-restrictions

As I understand it, this rule has been on the books for many years (maybe more than 50?) and was originally written to restrain certain high schools that had football practices nearly 12 months a year. I haven’t even lived in Georgia that long, and I may have been misinformed, but given the histories of some long-time football powerhouses in the state and some of the widely publicized rule-breaking that comes to light every few years (recruiting of players among the most common), I have no doubt that the reason for the rule that I was told is true.

Right, but how does what we’re talking about apply or make sense here. A coach coaches a girls club team in the fall and a boys high school team in the spring. Why can’t any of his club team girls attend & play for that high school? They won’t be playing for him, and there’s zero chance any of his boys would play on his girls club team (yes, even in 2024!). So why the seemingly meaningless restriction?
