I hear word is out on DA for local clubs next year. A big surprise on a BIG club is what I’m hearing. Anyone else hear this?

CF but not sure what gender and what ages. Could be all girls and they will only be ECNL. Anybody got any facts? I can’t believe it based on this: U18 girls # 10 in USA U15 #8 U14 # 10 U13 #5 U17 boys #23 U16 #12 U15 #19 U13 #5 That some extremely impressive rankings.

That is the same rumor I have heard as well. Supposedly it’s the girls side for the club. My question is why go only ECNL? Anyone have insight into this possible decision?

So boys keeps both and girls drop DA. Interesting, especially given the new creation of the "super league" or what ever its being called, the US Club Elite Georgia League.

I am not sure I believe this, it would mean Concorde is losing DA on the girl's side and going to do away with RPL all in the same year?
How are these rumours starting, how/ when will this be confirmed?

Interestingly enough, I heard about this potential change 2 weeks ago from a soccer friend at a different club. Apparently said BIG Club was slated to make a decision earlier in the week and that is probably what prompted the rumor mill to start. It will definitely cause a lot of anxiety because if its true and they lose DA, then the tryout situation is going to be real serious at the other DA clubs.

So to clarify the "rumor"
- Is This large club willingly giving up girls DA only or
- Is This club having DA taking away from it
and/or
- We are only talking about Girls?
Very strange in my opinion....

My sources did not confirm whether it was boys vs. girls. I assumed it was the girls program because its the newest but I guess that was a bad assumption on my part. It sounded as if they were being given a choice between the two (ECNL or DA) but the club was fighting for the same rights as their competitor.

Lots of uncertainty and instability in the youth soccer landscape, up and down the chart, but especially at the upper end. Two clubs have already been removed from GDA because of lack of performance (Burlingame in NoCal and FCKC). Can you imagine if you were a player who had signed up for this with US Soccer and your team was pulled from the league mid-season? I am all for enforcing standards, but mid-season? I thought those might have been club decisions (they were getting hammered weekly) but the message boards seem to indicate it was not that simple. Regardless, this is harsh for a bunch of adolescent players who had dreams of playing high-level soccer and is another indication of poor leadership at multiple places in the chain. And Seattle United, who was feeding players to Seattle Reign DA, stopped their collaborative arrangement with the Reign GDA team halfway through the season. SU is one of largest clubs in the state. ECNL also just added two clubs to the Mid-Atlantic bringing the total in that Conference to 10 for the time being. I was kind of assuming they added because of impending losses to GDA, although I have no special knowledge on this front. But now I am not so sure. Of course, this is all secondary to USSF moves. I know Soccerhouse had previously compiled a list of questionable decisions by our glorious Federation. Might be good to re-iterate, perhaps add to, that list at this point. Really disappointing that they have complicated the soccer experience for a nontrivial proportion of players, from all spectrums of the playing continuum, for reasons that were poorly articulated and of uncertain utility.

well it may be two clubs leaving DA and they are waiting on each other to make a decision. Kind of crazy considering that the clubs pushed DA as the best league and now they want to hop out of DA because they do not like the constraints that DA puts on the clubs. Should be interesting to see what happens if TH is the only game in town with DA and ECNL (lookout come tryout time)....The better question is....Is ECNL a better league or is DA the better league?

If the boys lose DA, then the CF/UFA combination of players should give AU a real run for their money. If the girls lose DA, then the CF/UFA combination of players should give TH a real run for their money. Hate to see either lose DA, especially since that is one less travel destination that each local club has to pay for.

I'm guessing perhaps clubs, parents and players noticed the high level of play in ECNL with much fewer restrictions on CLUBS and players. Don't need to even mention the US results after years and years of DA implementation.

I know they have to make a decision soon....but if they give up DA they will probably loose a chunk of players. At least the ones in the national team will be told to go play DA elsewhere.
I have heard that the decision to keep both is coming down to their standings with ECNL and they were told that all their teams needed to be at a certain ranking. TH fulfilled that requirement but they haven't so they can't argue that they want the same as them.
If they don't have DA next year it's because they choose not to, I don't believe it's being taken away. They have some very good teams.

TH fulfilled that requirement but they haven't so they can't argue that they want the same as them. If they don't have DA next year it's because they choose not to, I don't believe it's being taken away. They have some very good teams. It is hard to say whether they will lose a chunk of players. It is hard to predict psychology of youth soccer. And this would be about psychology at this point. If USSF starts more openly using a strong arm strategy it would be interesting to see how clubs and individuals react. According to Charles Boehm, another pretty big club, Virginia Development Academy, evidently has decided to switch from GDA to ECNL. VDA are certainly not tearing it up in GDA and they are not at the bottom; they are at about the same overall level of success as UFA right now. Supposedly there will be more such switches. I will believe it when I see it. The problem for USSF is that they cannot prove their DA concept is serving the intended function. People complain about so few young American male players getting first team minutes in any professional leagues (see Tab Ramos). All these great players who have been in the DA system over the years. Professional managers get paid for and get to keep their jobs by winning. If they are picking a Panamanian player over a player trained in the USSDA they are doing so because the former can help them keep their jobs. This is a pretty big problem for claiming the success and superiority of the DA concept. And that does not include the fact that no player that can reasonably claim to have been trained in the DA system (more than one year on a single DA team would be a bare minimum requirement) has made an impact on the USMNT as of yet. Although Tim Weah looked darned good today with PSG. Nearly scored. He may be the first. Sargeant has a chance. But it won't just be making the USMNT roster. It will be progressing beyond what teams were able to do before the USSDA existed. I suppose another 4 years will provide more data. Anyway, Concorde did not have a single team qualify for ECNL Champions League. That was probably the killer. NTH ECNL had all but the U18/U19s qualify; that NTH team did not win a single game in ECNL. Pretty strange. Nevertheless, pretty impressive that NTH was able to be at the top of two leagues across so many age groups. Interesting to see if that level of success continues. They must be working their butts off over there. I sure do wish there could be some peaceful resolution of this mess that was in the best interests of the majority of players and the growth and development of all levels of soccer in the US, but that is probably a bit too much to ask.

FCKC did not loose their DA. I was told they played at Real Co last week and Storm Colorado as well. Only reason Burlington isn't playing is because their girls all decided to play high school at the u16/u17 level. The other three ages never were able to get full rosters and never played a match.

You will note in the standings it says all of FCKC teams have completed their schedules (they have played all 25 games). Just like Burlingame. I think if you add the number of actual losses to the number of losses listed for their records you must conclude that they have forfeited the rest of their schedules. Perhaps I am wrong. There may be a different explanation other than they are no longer in the league. Clerical error? As for Burlingame, as I said things were more complicated than just the whole club being removed from the league midseason. Very unfortunate for the players on those teams as well as rest of their division. By the way, you might want to start reading here from the Kansas City Forum. Sad really. I feel for those players: Kansas City Soccer Forum on FCKC losing GDA

Only way to keep both is if you have good standings in the playoffs. Didn't Orlando City already move their DA to another location? I remember someone talking about it in one of the threads

So let me get this one straight - NTH has DA, ECNL and RPL and they keep all three. Concorde has DA, ECNL and RPL and they are losing DA.
Personally, I don't think any club should have DA and ECNL because it waters down the rest of their teams and that affects everyone. Any club that has DA - technically ECNL is the second team but kids do have a choice of where they want to play. So if the top 5-6 players decide they want to play high school soccer, they choose ECNL not DA, how strong is the DA team? Then if that club has RPL teams, those are now filled by former Athena players and depending on the quality of those players and mix of the team, and based on what we saw this year in SRPL, it's a crap shoot of who you play and how challenging that team will be. This doesn't make for good soccer for anyone no matter where you are or what you play. And how exactly is this supposed to strengthen the National teams - especially on the women's side - who've won World Cups prior to the calendar year change and introduction of DA to girls - and now struggle? Who wins here? Oh yeah - the only winners in this multi elite league format are the clubs cashing the checks.

Yea, been rumors for years that their annual ratings aren't acceptable -- coaching licensing issues, coaching behavior on sidelines, lack of "home" training facility for regular training and rainouts etc.
Still odd, especially if it includes the boys, I'd argue, their current season is the best the boys have ever been. I've mentioned this before, I thought with AU rolling into town, concorde would take the biggest hit -- its been the opposite, they have gotten better!! Still seems to be the destination for boys if they don't make AU or get cut.
