I was able to also catch the battle between UFA branches at nth and it was definitely a good battle. Seemed like each team controlled a half but the Forsyth coach definitely dropped the ball with his decision to scold and belittle the players the way he did. (IMO). Parents looked embarrassed and I would of too if that was my daughters coach. There are ways to talk to kids without having to embarrass them, I’m all for being tough on kids but this was clearly a reaction to a loss from a coach. Props to the norcross coach for remaining calm and showing good sportsmanship throughout the match. One of my daughters friends has played for him and I’ve only heard great things. UFA def have a battle to settle within the club leadership

Heard about the win against the upstart LAFC. Great job. I hear over the 4 games a few lads were banged up, nothing too serious I hope. Thankfully, you have a whole 4 days before your lot has to hit the road again for your season opener this Saturday.

I know you didn’t mean anything by it, but LAFC’s team is not an “upstart.” I’ve not seen a better team at this age group. AU was fortunate and worked hard to get the win. The Mex teams were big, but not technical. LAFC was smaller on average but hyper technical. I think they also have a few national team players. Maybe four?
There’s great soccer in the US at this age. Proud to say Atlanta is clearly in the mix. That is not just AU, but CF and all the clubs and teams at the “lower” level. We are lucky to have such good soccer here. Amazing, actually.

Favorably. Honestly, CF could have held their own and or beaten the Mex teams. But they were very big fast and physical and platyed the long ball and relied on individual play. The LAFC team played more possession.
If Our local teams played Mex teams 10 times, we’d win majority. If we played LAFC. I think AU would be 50/50 wins. Maybe less. LAFC was that good. Don’t know how CF looks this year but expect they’d do similar. Point is, Great soccer out there.
Disclosure, only saw bits of Mex teams and LAFC AU game on Periscope. Should be still out there if you want to view it.

2008s are 9 and 10 year olds right? This may already have been answered but did anything come of the coach who was yelling at his team? Any parents from the team on here that want to add info on if the club did anything? How are the young girls doing?

Had a chance to scrimmage GA Rush today. They are NL and we are SCCL. Final was 0-0. Not a bad game but think think the final score was equitable as neither team did enough to deserve the win. These two teams are pretty evenly matched so a good opportunity to play a game between different leagues.
The kids seem to respect each other and it was a clean scrimmage, so I would expect to schedule another game later this fall. Good to play teams that you respect
Next up UFA Fowler NPL.
**If your team is not playing enough games or needs more competition i highly recommended that your team manager reach out to other clubs that will test your team to set up a scrimmage.
Any u14's looking for a scrimmage we're open to discuss.

Any u14's looking for a scrimmage we're open to discuss. Please let us know how the UFA 05B NPL vs SCCL scrimmage goes. If possible, let us know ahead, I would be interested in coming out to watch that game. Talking about the 05B, the AU team took on the Inter Atlanta 04 top team. In the first half, Inter completely dominated. The Inter team has an 05 striker who is ginormous and most thought should have made the AU 05 team when he tried out. Needless to say he had something to prove. He was able to draw first blood and Inter went into the half with a 1-0 lead. However, in the second half I guess the real starters came in and completely dominated the second half and found the back of the net 3 times. Final score 3-1. Today, went with a girlfriend to watch her son at CF DA 05 play Queen City Mutiny. The first 15-20 minutes, I really thought QCM would run CF right out of GSP. The dominated in all phases of the game. They were able to score a garbage lucky goal, but a goal nonetheless. After the first water break, CF got back into the game and it seemed even for the first half. In the second half, CF completely dominated. Their front three(19/20/21) are all great additions this season. The two center backs for CF have definitely grown and kept repelling the QCM counter attack. CF kept attacking and coming up short. I would give the entire 2nd half to CF, they just have to learn to finish. Final score 1-0 QCM. Some days you are the better team, however, if you don't score it's all pointless. CF will be a force to recon with this season, especially once all the new pieces learn to gel as one unit.

Futsal Gawdess, the 05 UFA NPL Vs SCCL will be Sunday at Fowler at 5PM, Field 9 I believe. Should be an interesting game as the boys know each other pretty well: - Several of the Fowler players played Super Y this Summer for the SCCL Coach
- One long-time player from Fowler switched to Norcross this year
- At times over the years players have guested back and forth when needed (though not much recently)
Another interesting note is that the Fowler Goalie over the last 2 years has left UFA for the NASA (Milton) SCCL team. They had a second goalie on the team so not too much of an issue. Also its a Full scrimmage but not sure if there will be ref's or just officiating handled by the coaches.

Futal Gawdess,
UFA Norcross SCCL beat UFA Fowler NPL 4-3 tonight. Close game for most of the first half as Norcross went to half up 2-1. Lead stretched to 3-1 early in second half off of an own goal on a corner. Ball was going in if the defender did not try to head and clear, unfortunately barely grazed it and it went in. Fowler then scored midway through to make it 3-2. Norcross scored on a break away with less than 10 minutes left to go up 4-2. Final Fowler goal to make it 4-3 came with about 30 seconds left.
Over all good game.

From what I am gauging the UFA Norcross team is head and shoulders above any other SCCL teams for 2005's. With the Piedmont Conference, NPL and etc. it just doesn't seem right on all levels for competition. Sorry for going off topic, I know this has been said before that there are plenty of quality teams to play against each other locally but they are not. IMO you can do without NPL and Piedmont Conference, DA and ECNL isn't for everyone and SCCL could be the next best thing for youth soccer in Georgia.

Will definitely try to come out and support next time though. Thanks again for the info and the analysis. In your opinion, which team do you think has the better players, better coaching? Do you think if the teams where centrally located(e.g. South Forsyth), would the parents/players more likely want to merge or is the only determining factor for players on each team location? Thanks

I do think there can be enough good competition locally without many of these young teams having to travel. Some of the results seem lopsided because many of the leagues(DA, ECNL, etc.) are scooping up many(not all) of the really good players, making them more top heavy. If you take all the 2005 boys from DA(7), ECNL(4), NPL(3), SCCL(5) + all the other Piedmont, 2nd/3rd/4th teams within Georgia Soccer, you're talking about over 400 boys. Because of the locations of both UFA Forsyth/Norcross, many of the players/parents are staying closer to home. As opposed to wanting to drive 30 - 45 minutes to the other location to be on a higher or lower team. Specifically for the UFA Norcross/SCCL team, the stars have aligned and they now have a good team. I have seen both the UFA 2005 DA and SCCL teams. Though the SCCL team is supposed to be the 3rd team in the hierarchy of things(TPDL), however, I believe that team could give the DA team a run for it's money.

There is by far enough competition in Atlanta to never have to cross the state line. To some degree its club/parent ego and part of it is club's trying to differentiate themselves. I would prefer that you take all age groups and split them up into leagues from level 1 to ....??. The top 10 go into Georgia Premier Division (which plays home and away each season). Relegation included with other teams in lower divisions. Then if you want to play teams from out of state, arrange friendlies or go play in out of state tournaments. Or hold a trip-state tournament, or something similar.

Do you think if the teams where centrally located(e.g. South Forsyth), would the parents/players more likely want to merge or is the only determining factor for players on each team location? Thanks FG, Overall I would say there is better talent at Norcross. Norcross last year had a good starting lineup but significant drop off when subs came in. This year they added 6 new players and there isn't that huge drop off. (In yesterdays game subs assisted on a cross, scored the go ahead goal, and served a corner kick that pretty much curved in though touched by a defender and technically an own goal. That did not happen last year.) Fowler isn't too far behind, but they have a little drop off between starters and subs. Adding the two former DA kids to the midfield has made them strong in the middle. Up front the 3 brothers (1 05 and 2 06's) are fast and talented. This team counters very well. Their weakness is in the the back line, though they had a couple of players out that may have changed some things. As far as coaching I would give the edge to Norcross. That being said last year Fowler far exceeded expectations in State Cup and you have to credit some of that to coaching. Merging the two team would be difficult as there would be a battle for who the coach would be. Second while South Forsyth Fields are in the middle between Fowler and Norcross, there are several Norcross kids that live further south than Norcross fields, and several Fowler kids that live well North of Fowler. So you possibly would lose some good kids to GSA,AFU, Concorde Central and NASA Milton. Might happen anyway in Spring of 2020 when both teams current 8th graders move on to playing in high school. Merging for the Spring 2020 would be a good option.

If you combined the 05 Forsyth and Norcross 05B teams, you would have a very solid roster and Tom could get the most out of them as he is fantastic. I'm sure a lot of kids are playing at the branch closest to them as that is the primary reason we are at the location we are. I think both teams are similar in that they have several really great players, but they can't field a full 11 without having some holes . . . it's just that Tom is going to have his group playing the right way. Keep in mind that UFA Forsyth 05B has zero wins, 6 losses, and a tie so far in the 7 games they have played in spite of going to regionals last year and having an improved roster over last year.

I have not seen the UFA 05 DA so no clue how Norcross SCCL would do against them. Interesting in the u12 season the Norcross team scrimmaged the 05's that were playing up on the 04DA team and won 4-3. Only 3 kids remain from that team, and 1 kid is now on AU and 3 are on current 05 DA team. Norcross definitely looks to be head and shoulders above other SCCL teams for the age group, though still yet to play CESA and Vestavia Hills. Those teams are doing well but based on some common opponents I would expect Norcross to handle their business. No reason why they should not be undefeated in league play, but still have to play the game and teams sometimes have bad days. With SCCL at the age and gender not looking as competitive as hoped for, Norcross has been using scrimmages and tournaments to try to play higher competition. So Far they are 1-0 Vs ECNL (Beat Concorde ECNL in tournament), 0-1-2 verses NL (lost 2-0 in first scrimmage to Roswell, tied GA Rush 1-1, and played a half scrimmage against Inter Atlanta that ended 0-0), 1-0 vs NPL (UFA Fowler), 5-0 vs SCCL, and interesting 0-0-1 against Classic 1 (YMCA Arsenal Rome in tournament). Also scrimmaged the 06 UFA DA team and the final was 6-0 Norcross. Probably try to schedule scrimmages against AFU and GSA ECNL teams this fall. The biggest difference in SCCL has been that most teams in the league represent their clubs 3rd team. Technically UFA has DA and by putting Fowler into NPL, they have deemed Norcross as the 3rd team by placing them in SCCL. Norcross already felt a little like the step child and this further added to the chip on the shoulder. They do not accept that they are a lower level team than Fowler, and actually believe they are the better team. The distance between the club locations definitely affects things as no Norcross player (at our age and gender) has left to play at Fowler (excluding DA).

They got SCCL in order to make their program stronger. UFA could have just given it to their Red team if that was the case. Some of Norcross SCCL teams have lost to Forsyth Red teams. Is it because they didn't get NPL? Norcross had NPL when it first started and Tony gave it up. Its a little harder to get it again....ask NTH, they tried to get it again (they gave it up along with Norcross) and were told no.

SoccerMom, I know your allegiance is to Fowler, but respectfully don't be naive as to not think there is a not so silent civil war going on between UFA and UFA-Norcross. It goes on between players, parents, coaches and management to a certain degree. I'm not sure how it was when TA was in charge, but with the leadership heavy at the Forsyth location, Norcross sometimes does feel like the step child or an after-thought. I mean the term TPDL came about because both locations couldn't even agree on NPL & SCCL being equal, wait NPL being higher than SCCL, wait okay now I'm confused again, oh yeah TPDL

That is so true about the scrimmage during the U12 year. I do remember that game. Interesting that only 3 remain from approximately 10 boys who played up for UFA that year. I do recall the one kid went to AU(he was always ahead of his peers), I wonder where the others who are no longer at UFA are playing? I know the CB left to play BB and one of the midfielder's family moved out of the area, but that is about it. That may explain the issues they are having. No continuity and too many new faces and not enough time for them to Gel as a unit. Hopefully they find their rhythm. This is an important year. Next year, they will have competition from players on 4-5 other clubs as the # of teams at U15 goes from 7 down to 3. So clubs will have options to improve.

Why does Norcross feel like the step child? Doesn’t the majority of UFA Boys DA teams practice out of Norcross (Summerour) and 05s at South Forsyth? And Norcross has all the SCCL teams w Forsyth having NPL? Seems to me Norcross has it really good location-wise w a first and third team option.
Would you prefer Concorde’s model w the vast majority of all high level teams (DA, ECNL & SCCL) based out of the parent location Central? Or split practice locations but the majority are at the parent location. Trust me, Norcross has it good for not being the parent location in comparison to other big clubs.
Why worry who is technically 1, 2, 3 Team. You don’t need to constantly validate to the forum on your team’s latest record and who you last beat to make you feel better on technically being the 3rd team but a good team. I don’t see other teams so hung up on their spot whether they are Concorde, NTH, GSA, SSA or UFA but you. There is no purposeful slight to Norcross. Wish your team continued success!

I would like to believe I'm an ALL-UFA loyalist Both locations have been good to my kids. Actually, with my first kid, I did start at Norcross(son) but now I do call Fowler home(daughter). However, true or not the perception is real down in Norcross, but that is to be expected when one is not at HQ. I I've always said and still believe that to the leadership of UFA, Norcross is nothing more than an outpost to protect the flank of UFA-Forsyth from the likes of GSA/AFU/etc.

I’m not following the point you’re trying to make. Not sure if you’re a long time lurker and now a first time poster. Either way you’re new so let me point out the obvious. As far as I can tell no one here is disputing the location of the myriad of divisions and groups between the UFA locations. We’re also not arguing about SCCL being located at the Norcross location. In my opinion it was the prudent thing to do to stop the bleeding of players from Norcross. We could go on about GDA being out of Forsyth, NPL being out of Fowler, Super Y out of both locations and playing DA games out of Lanier-land. And how did this turn into a discussion about CF’s model, who cares? I say all that to point out that it has all been discussed ad nauseam. Focus - what we are discussing is the perception, real or not, of how one location feels they are being treated. Normally, I would ignore feelings in footy, but these are paying customers so you can’t ignore their gripes. In my opinion some of it is in their head and in other clear examples it’s not. It is how the parents, players, coaches and at times the leadership treats the folks out of Norcross that helps to fuel these debates. p.s. Welcome to the forum

I feel ya Futsal on perception as being a satellite. My comparison to Concorde, or other Clubs was only to highlight that among the mega clubs, Norcross factually (regardless of perception) has a favorable boys setup/model with UFA for access to high level teams (DA and SCCL) for not being the HQ location. Most satellite mega club locations have very few high level team options and would be happy to have what Norcross does in their respective club. I think you can agree with me on that in terms of non-HQ location comparison. That's where I was going with that.
