I agree with the Norcross issue. That should NOT come from the coaches. The leadership should NOT allow that. It is very common thread from the parents of girls though. That is also not appropriate, at least to voice out loud. People can think whatever they want but shouldn't verbally spread discord. Update and credit to the leadership. The leadership recognizing there is an issue and in an attempt to start to rectify and bridge the casim between the Fowler & Norcross location did a good thing this weekend. The top 2008 teams from both locations played each other this weekend and the Academy Director brought both teams and both sets of parents to the center of the field to chat, introduce and start the process of building some comradeship. Especially since these two teams will hopefully be one as either a DA, NPL, SCCL, etc... team. To refresh your memory, these are the teams that played each other in the preseason tourney at NTH that lead to some taking issue with one of the coaches and his response to his team. All in all, Kudos to UFA for doing that. #UNITED

Looks like Generation Adidas tournament, at least at the boys U14 level is going to be a inter-league festival.
Inter-Atlanta - National League Tier 2 GA Rush - National League Tier 2 Smyrna - National League Tier 1 UFA Forsyth - NPL NASA TH - ECNL UFA Norcross - SCCL
And 2 out-of-state National Leagues. Have not heard who but Discoveries (NL Tier 2) and Chattanooga FC (NL Tier 1) have played here in recent years.
Hopefully other ages and genders have a good mix of leagues.

Have not seen them posted. I was able to get some insider info for our age group. I would expect another week or two before they are. And that may be soon as sometimes not posted until a week before.

That NASA 05 ECNL team is not very good. 2 Wins 13 loses. Gave up>70 goals. I’ll give UFA Norcoss a +3 point line

We'll take it, but from what I've seen we will not be in their bracket. Looking like UFA Norcross, Inter Atlanta, Smyrna and one of the out of state teams.

Word is the weekend of December 15th and 16th Atlanta United will be scrimmaging the following teams.
Los Angeles FC(LAFC) and New York City FC(NYCFC).
Would be fun to see how AU stacks up against both teams. Not sure of time and age groups yet. LAFC only goes up to U15, while NYCFC has the full accompaniment of DA age groups. Will share more as I know.

For those who are not interested in the fun called Black Friday/Saturday/Sunday shopping, you can bide your time instead by watching some of the futures for all MLS Clubs. AU is hosting the MLS U-12 GA Cup Finals tournament, featuring most of the U-12 teams for the MLS. This tournament usually features teams from world renowned clubs like Barca, Real Madrid, Man U, Chelsea and Bayern Munich. Normally held in Frisco Texas at the home of FC Dallas in early spring, it's being held right here in our back yard.

I didn't see any foreign teams listed in the tourney (unless you count Toronto). Only MLS and MLS affiliate clubs. Let me know if I'm wrong - if any of the European teams are playing. Thanks!

Just played a couple NPL teams down at Disney. Not very good. Probably below ECNL. Closer to Athena A. Is NPL above SCCl?

Nope you are correct. In the past that may have been the case, but then again, in the past this tourney was held in Dallas so maybe an all around change. Out of town for thanksgiving so have not had a chance to watch any of the games. Did you attend, any thoughts on play, organization, etc.

Just played a couple NPL teams down at Disney. Not very good. Probably below ECNL. Closer to Athena A. Is NPL above SCCl? In general and IMO: ECNL > NPL > SCCL > Athena A. But, the landscape is quite watered down and depends on what alphabet soup leagues each individual club has to offer and the depth of that club to field their 2nd and 3rd teams. So there are definitely exceptions to what I put above. Is there a DA and/or ECNL team offered above NPL at the club? Does the SCCL team's club also offer an NPL team at the club? Does the SCCL team's club also have DA and/or ECNL teams above them? So... depends how each club is structured and depth. As we know, Top Hat girls are deep in talent so their SCCL teams will perform well although they have DA and ECNL teams above them (and do not offer NPL).

Really enjoyed watching Dallas and Toronto. Speed of play in that game was fantastic. Think those were the best two teams I saw. Dallas was a little more athletic and edged out a 3-2 win. AU at that age group looked a bit below average. Saw them lose to LA FC 2-1, but game wasn't as close as the score. I liked the 7v7 format a lot. They played no offside except for in attacking 1/4 (there was a line, like the build-out line, but there were no restrictions on pressuring - was only for offside).

Was there supposed to be something attached to this? I am not seeing anything on mobile or desktop version. As to a previous post regarding NPL teams not being very good or whether they were better than Athena A or SCCL and worse than ECNL...I agree with the other poster ECNL>NPL>SCCL>Athena. The caveat that I would put on that is that similar to the bottom players on a top team not being much better or better at all to the top players on a 2nd team...so does this rule apply to the leagues. I would also say that teams can have a bad day (or a really good day) and beat or even dominate a team that is "better" than them. There will also be exceptions. There is overlap in the quality of the leagues. The top bracket in the 03 (showcase) was lead by an NPL team, 03 AFC Lightning. There were also several games that were between ECNL and NPL teams where the ECNL team lost (though more ECNL beat NPL than the other way). Finally, not every NPL team is labeled NPL or wearing patches so there are a lot more NPL teams there than you probably realized. Hard to label a lot of the teams there based on leagues because some are playing more than one league and different states label their leagues differently and well.

I saw Atlanta United picked up another 2003 keeper and is listed as a full time player. I assume that status can change as needed? I think that makes 29 players on the u17s.....

The AU ATL Showcase kicked off today. Went to go watch my nephew's team (U14/2005s) play their counterpart from Los Angeles FC. I love that kid but his team got spanked today. I stopped counting but I think the final score was 8-2.
Based off of what I saw and listening to parents on the sideline, my synopsis of the game is this. This AU team got exposed in the midfield and their starting goalie let the team down. I know last year they only had one goalie so not sure why the backup goalie was not given a chance.
First half ended in a 2-1 lead for LA. One of the goals was at the behest of an observant winger who noticed the AU keeper off of his line. He watched as the ball sailed over his head no attempt to track back and save it. I think AU dominated in the first half but did not capitalize on a multitude of opportunities.
The second half started with no adjustments from the AU coaching staff. The goalie again let down his team. He must have been coached to come out because he again let in a couple of goals that sailed over his head because he was off of his line. I attributed 4 of the goals to goalie error. However, with all that said, the midfield was non-existent today. They are too small, too slow, not physical on the offensive or defensive side and their first touches are always too hard. There are too many good midfielders in Metro Atlanta soccer to have these representing a team like AU. The starting back-line is solid, however the backups or subs are truly lacking. Especially on the left side. 6 of the 8 goals came from the lack of any challenge on the left side.
All in all, TA has work to do, if he wants this team to challenge for the playoffs in this division next year. This is especially true since CF and UFA will only get better with the merging of players from non-U15 clubs.
In regards to LAFC, their players play as a team, they attack as one unit and defend as one. Their midfield is very good and they string a plethora of passes to progress the ball to the attacking 3rd. There was only one time that their holding mid took the ball right up the spine and went through the midfield like they didn't exist. All in all, I can see why this team is considered one of the top U14s in the country.
A truly poor showing for AU, I hear my poor nephew didn't say a word all the way home. However, it was a litmus test to see where they are in the realm of things. Clearly, TA is going to have to cut the fat and make some changes to this team. Tomorrow they play NYC FC, not sure if I'll make it but if I do I'll report on the outcome.

Day 2 of the AU ATL Showcase continued today. With the following games and the following results
AU v NYCFC - AU wins 4 zip LA v QCM - LA wins 8 zip NYCFC vs QCM - NY with a late come back on Queen City wins 4-3
Tomorrow I expect QCM to bring it. They would hate to make a trip just to go 0-3. AU looked better today, but the deficiency in the middle is still there. The difference today was that AU just has better athletes than NYCFC. I did see TA onsite today and as usual he was writing in his black notebook. NYCFC is a solid team, but if you have bigger, faster they are easily beatable. LAFC as was expected were clinical in their execution. They don't have a single standout player they all feed off of, they are a good team with solid players who are on the same level so they trust the system and play together as one unit from box to box.
