www.espnfc.us/major-league-soccer/story/2297625/us-players-never-planned-to-be-fit-for-national-team-campmatt-besler-saysU.S. defender Matt Besler says he never intended to be fully fit for the national team's January camp, while his Sporting Kansas City coach Peter Vermes called Jurgen Klinsmann's comments on players' conditioning "ridiculous." Klinsmann criticised the fitness of some of his players following the. U.S.'s 2-1 defeat in Chile on Jan. 28. Most of the U.S. squad that went to Chile were in the middle of their offseason, having last played in November in the MLS playoffs, and Klinsmann said some players treated the camp as if it were preseason. Besler confirmed Klinsmann's fears Friday, telling the Kansas City Star that he always planned to reach his top physical form when the MLS season begins in March, not for the U.S. camp. "My goal is to be in my peak fitness on March 1," Besler said. "That's when my season starts. It goes from March to December. So on Jan. 15, we devised an offseason plan for me to hit my peak fitness on March 1, and I think that's what most of the guys did. "If the expectation is different, that's something that needs to be discussed so we know going into a camp where we need to be." Klinsmann has been at odds with Major League Soccer on a number of topics in recent months -- from players leaving top European leagues to play in MLS, to the length of the season -- but Vermes says Klinsmann's comments on fitness were inaccurate. "Totally disagree with the comment," Vermes said. "I have a lot of respect for Jurgen. Obviously he was a great player, and he's done tremendous things as a coach, as well. But that doesn't mean every time someone opens their mouth, they're right. And I completely disagree."

As outlandish as that seems this type of hazing goes on more than you think, many times it goes unreported.
people get some kind of sick joy in humiliating others in the most perverse way possible.
I think many kids today are re so desensitized to sex and violence that they push the envelope to this extent.

If you knew what actually happened during the hazing incident you would probably agree that four games was a very light punishment.
Hazing is not about being a part of a team, it's about exerting control over someone in an effort to humiliate them. Carrying balls or getting a haircut but these incidents are way over the top.

At Tophat we schedule all the local big clubs, the challenge is that we have five to six teams in most age groups and most clubs don't have that many, so we may play two different clubs the same day and our fourth, fifth and sixth teams may play the first and or second team at a smaller local club.

I coached him at U10 & U11, even then it was apparent he had superior athletic skills, funny thing is he was the smallest player on the team but could separate from players with Gareth Bale like speed. His mom was a NCAA champion in track at LSU I believe. He could have been a region/national pool player at U14 had he stuck with it but transitioned to football full time.

espn.go.com/video/clip?id=12249674Odell Beckham Jr sets the World Record (along with Drew Brees) for most one handed catches in a minute. Not sure obscure that record is but they set the mark with 33 catches. OBJ played soccer in Decatur for a few years, was a very gifted athlete even at U10/U11.

First your need to make sure your current coach approves the guest play option and your team doesn't have any conflicts that weekend, it's best to get your coaches permission in writing via email to ensure the guesting coach isn't accused of any recruiting violations

Paul runs his own goalkeeping performance company and I believe works with Hope outside of the USWNT and was part of her off field rehab program while recovering from shoulder surgery. Maybe their working/personal relationship is what prompted the move.

Noticed the new award for soccerfan30. Kudos! You do represent TopHat well! As well as ODP. Did a great job with the 97's. It's great having someone who really knows the game, the GA soccer community, and cares about the kids who is willing to participate in this forum and provide insight not always obvious to us parents. Ok who is chopping onions in here? All of you are far too kind, I greatly appreciate the kind words

Thanks long time viewer, first time poster (under this identidy). Quick Question - What should I expect from a typical ODP training session?? I have a child with the 03 age group. Our sessions are 90% scrimmaging. 4 hours yesterday and the boys scrimmaged for probably 3 hours of that time. Keep in mind these scrimmages are like an all-star nba basketball game, just up and down, lots of scoring, very little defense, and certainly no instructions on or focus on the defensive side of the ball. They have the boys playing with 2 backs, its 4v2s & 5v3s all day, just goal after goal after goal. Very little attempt at possession and playing team defense! its very very similar to tryouts to be honest. But to be fair, at tryouts the kids at least played some small sided games at 4v4 and 5v5. Maybe my expectations are/were to high. I was expecting, some hard core training sessions at least similar to what we get from our club. I couldn't imagine if our club team had a scrimmage with one of our other teams and the final score after 30 minutes was 28-25. Look at the end of the day, its not the end of the world, the kids are out there playing and having fun and yes they do stop the play to correct improper balls played and some poor decisions, but thats it. That's not typically with the 2002 Boys, we spend a lot of time on various topics:building out of the back, defensive shape, playing with a three person midfield, role do the holding mid, creating width and movement off the ball for the three forwards, and goalkeepers work on organization with the goalkeeper coach. We may scrimmage for the last 30-45 minutes or so, the only time we did a session with mostly scrimmaging was the session before sub region/region games so we can really look at players in different positions when we have to form balanced teams and finalize the rosters. What exactly do you mean by hard core sessions? You mean in terms of intensity or quality of instruction? Remember these players have games on the weekend and some ODP teams train on Friday night or early Sunday, we're not trying to run them into the ground or risk injury to the players prior to a club game. I was with 97 Boys for four years and this is my second year with the 2002 Boys, I've never seen a practice where 90% of the time was spent on scrimmaging, unless it was the session before sub region/games which I mentioned above.

Honestly I don't like any of those names, as a member of the founders club I took the survey and thought there were better choices.
Empire? Do they plan to play Darth Vaders Imperial March theme for warm ups? FireBird? We already have one club in Atlanta (err two) that have essentially ripped off the trans am firebird logo- no thanks Black Harts?- band of pirates? Resurgents?- makes me think of insurgents Terminus- neutral
How about something that actually has a historic link to the state/city?

My theory he deflates the balls to an exceptable minimal standard. - cold weather did the rest Would be interesting if they have a pre and post measument for the colts balls also. Don't think the Cold weather theory holds up, the Colts balls were measured after the game and experienced no loss and were within the threshold. As meticulous as QB's are about their footballs I just can't believe Tom Brady, he's denying that he didn't feel a difference, he could simply say I like them on the bottom end of the threshold and that would be acceptable but he flat out said he couldn't tell. All the QB's and analysts I've seen today say that's impossible.

The Colts were going to get beat regardless, however there is an advantage to an under inflated football, NFL live on ESPN did a demonstration today, a QB with a smaller hand (like Tom Brady) can dig into the ball better when it's under inflated, making it easier to throw in adverse conditions, same with a running back, they can tuck it better and dig into the ball making it harder to dislodge.

Hope and her husband were the only two in the van, reports said Hope was responsible for the van and no one else could drive it, her husband is not covered by US Soccer's liability. As I mentioned in a previous post Hope did not tell Coach Ellis or US Soccer officials, they found out via TMZ the next day.

Reports are now saying that Hopes husband had a.32 blood alcohol level, that's not a typo folks, that's four times the legal limit and he was driving, reports also say Hope was hammered too.
This keeps getting worse

I can't look up the exact wording at the moment but Google the GA Rules and Bylaws, should be section 300 or 400.
I served on the GA Soccer Ethics and Grievance Committee for a while when they needed neutral parties to sit in on hearings in regards to illegal recruiting. One coach got a hefty suspension because a team parent was calling players at other clubs. The rationale was that the coach was ultimately responsible even though the coach said the parent acted on their own volition, which they found not to be believable.

I guess my next question is that if the US Team Van hadn't been driven by them during the DUI would US Soccer have suspended her? When you are driving a "company" vehicle so it's going to brand negative attention to that brand.
Her "statement" was laughable, saying it would be to srep back to take a break and decompress from the stress of the last few months. Really? All of this "stress" was self induced.

Wow....it definitely changes things I'm going out on a limb and say Hope was entrusted with the van, no way her husband would be allowed to drive a US Soccer vehicle, as I mentioned before Hope was probably worse off and that's why he drove. Since Hope is from Washington they were probably watching the Seahawks game and partying. Just a guess

Hope is 33 years old, if she doesn't "get it" now that's a problem, this is probably her last chance at a WC, if that's not a catalyst for change nothing is. For all her abilities and her hating to be compared to the 99er's, they won two WC's, Hope hasn't won one yet.

The way the question was worded it seemed like the OP was asking if he could train with another team at another club which is no, not without permission which I don't think 99% of coaches would give.
If you want 1 on 1 training you could always seek out a different coach at your current club too, always good to get different perspectives and training ideas.
