DOC at my kid's club waited until day 3, then brought in almost an entire C1 team that he had recruited, after dangling the C1 spots in front of my kid and his team. Classy. Anyway, I'd rather my kid and my money went somewhere else. If he doesn't sign, will he be able to find a team at all? Your son doesn't happen to play for a club in Gwinnett that is changing locations this year does he?

Play both- had a girl on my U14 Tophat team that made Varsity at Paideia as a 9th, she did both. That works if the coaches are both willing to make concessions. My daughter's coaches wouldn't agree to let her miss any practices for either club or high school. So, she didn't play high school her freshman year. She was disappointed, but it probably worked out in the end. All the private schools want their best athletes to play multiple sports as they have a smaller student body. If she missed a practice for a HS game she would come train with my other Tophat team to make it up, wasn't really an issue.

Here's a related question. What do U14 players do that have August birthdays that will be in high school this Spring? Play club or no? Play both- had a girl on my U14 Tophat team that made Varsity at Paideia as a 9th, she did both.

espn.go.com/espn/otl/story/_/id/12976615/detailed-look-hope-solo-domestic-violence-case-includes-reports-being-belligerent-jailThis is worse than originally portrayed, new statements and official police documents obtained by Outside The Lines are contradictory to the image Hope Solo painted in regards to her domestic violence case involving her family. She was driving drunk, confronting police and insulting them. This is in stark contrast to the media tour Hope made protesting her innocence and that she was the victim. It also alleges that US Soccer swept it under the rug , they didn't reach out to the Kirkland police department or investigate the case. Good read with new details. Hope you're in your 30's, get your act together and grow up.

A coach actually said that your daughter? If so that should have been the cue that the coach isn't someone you want your child exposed to.

Let me ask this- The USMNT has always been known for their work rate, fitness, energy and fighting spirit....remind me again how many World Cups we've won? But the women are known for the same things. Pia would always talk about the "American fighting spirit". Almost the first thing out of her mouth every time someone would ask her to describe her team. They have 2 World Cups (but not one since 1999) with one runner-up (last one) and 4 Olympic Golds (and were runner-up the other time). I am not disagreeing with you, but on women's side using athletes with a few real soccer players thrown in has served them reasonably well unfortunately. Of course, that athletes ship has probably sailed, as everyone keeps telling US Soccer. They just can't seem to break with the past. Honestly I also think substitution rules in elite club and college soccer contribute to the athletes vs skilled soccer players conundrum. Coaches can just keep running physical specimens out there who are 15 minute destroyers. They don't need to be skilled soccer players. They just need to make sure the other team cannot play. See Florida State women last year. I hope it changes. It is really fun watching someone like Gedion Zelalem play in the U20 World Cup. A few things to consider: The USWNT program had a 15-20 year head start on most of the world, around the early 2000's soccer federations in other countries started allocating more funding to their women's national teams. The number of top level women's national teams is very small, realistically there are only five or so teams that can compete for a World Cup/Olympic Gold Medal. I'm not sure if other countries have closed the gap on us or we've remained stagnant, honestly I think it's a little bit of both. Look at Japan, most would say they are the best technically overall, not overpowering physically but are technically good and tactically sound. Brazil is very good, their main issue is discpline, they hurt themselves with all the fouling and antics, they cetainly have the ability to contend for a title. Germany is always good, Sweden with Pia at the helm my surprise some people this summer. Think about this: outside of Germany I would guess no country invests more into fitness, exercise science, top medical staff, recovery and the lastest training techniques than the US, so athletically the USWNT should be the best, but again that's not enough, technique is what separates the best from the rest. The USWNT needs a strong personality as the coach, someone that can bring in new ideas and implement a different style of play and US Soccer needs to support them. The vets on the USWNT have too much input as to who the coach should be, obviously they are protecting their own interests. I posted here a while back that Tom Sermanni was let go because some veterans didn't mesh with his style of play, he certainly didn't have worse results than the other coaches. The vets lobbied to have Ellis installed as the coach because she was a "player's coach"... read into that what you will. While she's given new players an opportunity, it's pretty much the same style of play. So getting to the original point- you need something more than "hustle", at a certain level everyone works hard for the most part, but do they have the SKILLS to separate them from the rest?

No way FIFA will allow the USWNT to win the WC, I'm sure they will find a way to rig the games...see South Korea in 2002 WC.

Yes and the U13 team is a bulk of former U12 GSA academy players with a few players added from other clubs, also heard they picked up some transfers mid season this year.
Not much academy program from what I understand.

I'm sure a lot of it is from club coaches trying to disparage a competing club in an effort to gain a recruiting advantage. You wouldn't believe the amount of parents that treat the other forum as the gospel.

Quite a few Gold teams practice together on occasion and/or scrimmage against each other at practice. Many times Ted had the Gold and Navy academy trams practice together. All of the Academy teams train together at the same (per age group).

The state mandates the date when tryouts can start but each club determines what days and times they choose to hold their tryouts.

Unfortunately society had created this entitlement age, I see it all the time: kids don't accept responsibility, it's always someone else's fault, etc. When you see some of these parents it's quite clear where this behavior comes from.

I typically use my ipad when surfing the net and I always have issues when visiting here, it seems there is lag/hiccups in scrolling down and when you reply to a post there is significant delay in what you type and letters repeated or spaces missing.
anyone else having this issue? Its been going on for a month or so. Ipad is up to date with the latest iOS

Interesting thread! Being apart of the Dacula family, I've debated if I should contribute. Fully understand many of the comments and everyone is welcome to their opinions. The curriculum and philosophy is based on a proven model to develop strong soccer players. Is the model perfect, too early to know, but many at the club have faith in the leadership to adjust and improve as required. This is not recreational soccer, this philosophy is designed for serious and committed players. I respect that the club has developed and will implement the philosophy that as many have said may hurt the financial standing in the short run. DSC is not looking at the next season , they are preparing for years in The future. This forum has debated the quantity versus quality approach and this is an example of a club focused on quality and development. As a 'long-timer' in youth soccer, I'm pretty cynical. Actually I'm pretty cynical in general. I find it almost impossible to believe that participating in a summer program could do irreparable harm to a player's ability to play within the Dacula system. If it is truly that rigid and unique, what will these players do when they leave Dacula (at age 18 to go to college or pro) and try to play with another team? Will they be lost outside of their system? The youth soccer cynic in me says this is nothing more than strong-arm tactics to keep players and parents from getting a look at other clubs, and to keep those other clubs from having a good look at them. Maybe I'm wrong, but if so, my questions about the 'soccer bubble' Dacula is trying to create still stand. Diversity in style is not a bad thing. I'd love to hear Dacula management come and help us understand this all a bit better. I'm with Jash on this one, it's a strong arm tactic thinly veiled under the guise of a club model. Like the jealous boyfriend who won't allow his girlfriend to go out with her friends for fear some other guy might hit on her. Have confidence in what you are doing as a club, the product your are putting forward and hope the families make the right decision. Tophat would never implement something like this because they know they offer a good product, have multiple teams at each age group to provide players of all abilities the opportunity to play and their track record for development speaks for itself. Clubs like Dacula that are surrounded by potentially better options will always struggle to keep their players at U15 and above when families may start getting a little more serious about soccer and playing in their community or with the friends isn't the primary driving force as it was at U13/U14. What's next? Dacula isn't going to allow their players to participate in ODP? Parents from other clubs talk at practice and could entice players to leave, there's no hiding from that. Dacula should embrace that their players want to better themselves with supplementary opportunities which will in turn benefit their own Dacula teams. As the risk of outing myself, I was the Soccer Director at a small club here in Atlanta for four years, we had about 1200 kids annually and I pretty much ran the show by myself. We would also typically lose our better players to Tophat, GSA, CF etc it's difficult to accept but that's just the nature of competitive soccer and not having the sheer numbers to field multiple quality teams in each age group. You can fight it or just accept it and take pride that the players you developed at U10-U12 went on to play R3PL, NL, ECNL and even D1 college ball. Sorry if I'm being a little cynical myself but I've been doing this way too long to actually believe this is being done in the players best interests.

You can hold tryouts as many nights as yoy want, there isn't a limit, although once signing day comes around its important to get the commitment and finalize your roster for the coming year. Many clubs offer supplementary tryouts even after signing day to potentially fill one last spot or to add an additional team because of high numbers at tryouts.
