Not a smart move on Dacula's part, they typically lose their better around U15 as they seek better competition and the desire to be around players of similar expectation, this is essentially pushing them out the door faster.
I know Drew pretty well, I would hope this isn't coming from him.

Best for me was the Golden Isles tournament in Jekyll Island, competition may not have been great but location, location, location Not to mention the great seafood. Worst for me is Atlanta Cup, especially coaching multiple teams being so spread out, don't get me started on the fields at Lovejoy.

It terms of quality of competition the UCL is far and away the best, however the WC is winning with the players from your country versus amassing the greatest talent because you have the finances to do. We will probably never see a Porto, Bucurest, Nottingham Forest ever win the European Cups/ Champions League ever again, too much money in the game now. Seeing Greece and Denmark win the Euro's (although slightly weaker competition) was a big deal in world soccer at the time, I think the likelyhood of a midtier national team winning the WC is more likely now than a smaller club team winning the Champions League.

I don't subscribe to Messi being the greatest ever theory, he rarely shows that form for the national team on the big stage, yes Argentina made it to the WC Finals but if I remember correctly he didn't score a goal after the group stage. Maradona pretty much won the 86 WC single handily.

It means contested card- both team managers/coaches have to input any cards issued, it's a check system to ensure all cards are recorded accordingly. The score will show as 0CC until both teams enter the same cards issued for the game.

Besides the typical "my kid has a big foot" , I heard a parent say "my daughter can head butt the ball pretty good"- thankful it wasnt a Tophat parent.

No such rule exist, they are just using scare tactics in order to keep you from "shopping around". Although they are well within their right not to select your child but you are free to attend tryouts wherever you like.
It seems like you probably solved your issue, if a club said that to you I would say your decision for next year just got a little easier.

Just as a FYI- Georgia Soccer has extended the spring season to May 31st to accommodate reschedules. Our fields are closed and I tried to be proactive to find a turf field to move our game today and the opposing coach told me he wouldn't be able to field a team at that time, now another reschedule

Soccerhouse Not sure how long you've been involved with youth soccer in Georgia but there was a failed and not very well thought out attempt to have a club under the Silverbacks brand. Back in early 2000's there were two clubs in the Marietta area: United Quest Soccer Club (Canterbury Park) and Metro North Soccer Club ( Nasa fields off Paper Mill) both we're both sizeable and successful clubs........ That is exactly what I was wondering! my kids were just little ones back then! honestly never even knew the prior history with NASA! so what your saying is ironically, this entire "superclub" concept is the silver backs fault.... (just kidding about super club and silverbacks obviously..) I wouldn't describe it as a superclub, I think the Silverbacks got a percentage of each kid registered and the club was wearing their kits so I'm not sure they were that hands on other than promoting their brand.

I'm not sure on the actual facts but these are just comments and observations that were relayed to me from people within the club and from perceptions from the outside. Someone feel free to correct and or add to the discussion.
United Quest and Metro North both merged and became the Silverbacks Soccer Club. I don't think there was any foresight into making it a true merger/academy...mainly the Silverbacks had a financial stake in the merger and visibility for their brand. The club used the same jerseys and color scheme as the Men's team, believe they used Joma brand, which wasn't a very good quality. It was touted as providing the youth players a pipeline into the pro team and access the Silverbacks players and coaches. Not sure how much of that actually happened. From many people that I knew they were very unhappy and vocal against being part of the Silverbacks brand. You should have seen the other forum back in the day, pages and pages of rants about this topic.
The Silverbacks don't have a successful track record in running their own pro teams while in existence, high turnover in coaches, for a long time no local players, players not getting paid, etc. Many people didn't have confidence they could run a successful youth program. Turns out those people were right, I think the Silverbacks club only lasted two or three years and both clubs left which I think lead to the formation of NASA.

Lots of good information and discussion here but there are some inaccuracies in regards to Tophat, many people have their own theories as to why they do a good job in terms of development, why they need or don't need ECNL, college exposure, etc. I may post something later but many people have misconceptions about Tophat that I see all the time on both forums, there are many things that make Tophat successful, unless you have a child involved in the program it's hard to understand all the dynamics at play.
More later.......hopefully

If you've never seen "Real the Movie" I would suggest you check it out, it was made during the Galacticos era at Real Madrid (Zidane, Beckham, Ronaldo, Raul, Roberto Carlos). It's mainly a vanity piece that uses stories to explain why people are so passionate about Real Madrid, there are interviews with the players and some footage of training but the best part is the last 30-45 minutes when it shows the team preparing to play Barcelona in the El Clasico at the Bernabeau, they had about 20 cameras set up during the game and the footage is great much like the footage in the above video, angles and stuff you don't see during a normal broadcast.
Check it out if you can find it

The players have more power than the coach, that's the problem. Ellis is a players coach (take that for what it's worth) and caters to the vets. Remember that women's soccer doesn't pay much relative to other sports, so the players want to stay in the team as long as possible to keep themselves relevant.
I posted an article on here a while back how some vets (read Wambach) were believed to have been instrumental in the firing of Semana and Ellis was their "hand picked" successor.

My Tophat team played U13 AFC Elite last weekend, didn't see anything out of the ordinary that happened during the game. I was shocked when I read what happened this weekend, playing them I didn't see any ill behavior during our game, makes me wonder what happened that lead to the multiple cards.

Are there any camps for field players in the metro area for U9-U11 that actually pushes kids to be better? Every year we are pleased that our kids have fun but disappointed the level of training. Well for girls (shameless plug) Tophat offers camps during the summer, very well attended and lots of players from other clubs. Darlington school offers good camps bur not sure of the age range.

The WNBA loses money hand over fist every year but have the backing of the NBA so it can take a loss or break even, the highest league salary in about $104,000. Look at Diana Taurasi, she is sitting out the WNBA season because her Russian club team is paying her millions of dollars to do so in effort for her to be fresh for the Russian League season.
With no broadcast rights, small attendance and no MLS backing I just don't see a sustainable business model for this new team to remain viable, obviously the big names want to be paid (Wambach, Morgan, Solo, etc) but the individual teams can't operate at a loss for a few years. Either the big names will have to leave money on the table in order to grow the league or demand the big salaries and not have anything left for operating costs.

Obviously I'm a big supporter of girls/women's soccer but haven't we seen this story three times prior. I read where T Fitz Johnson (Atlanta Beat v 3.0) owner was losing over a million dollars a year out of his own pocket bankrolling they team when they played at KSU. Hardly anyone comes to the Silverbacks Womens Games, unfortunately I can't see how this incarnation isn't going to end up as the first three, I hope it doesn't but Atlanta is a very fickle sports town.

ashford dunwoody fields GSA lilburn Metro North Georgia Soccer park rabbit hill Two of those five venues are in poor shape year around anyway so playing on them this weekend won't make them worse. We played last weekend and Concorde canceled all the Sunday games. I assume they will try to get in at least two games this weekend as well.
