Surprising this year has been great. For a big club with no fields, we finally have a huge green field that we only share with another team. I guess 3 years in a dust bowl pays off

I havent seen them play before. I looked at the Copa lineups and didnt see them listed. I might be looking at the wrong one. I know AFC's U13 team is pretty good.
I see that they are playing in the NASA tournament what looks like to be the group of death. Should be a great tournament. Some high quality U12 teams.
Bracket A
FC ALLIANCE 04 BOYS BLACK (TN)
NASA B22 ELITE (GA)
SOUTHERN SSA CHELSEA 04B PREDATOR BLUE 2 (GA)
DDYSC 04 WOLVES ELITE (GA)
Bracket B AFC LIGHTNING '04 BOYS GOLD (GA)
SOUTHERN SSA CHELSEA 04B PREDATOR BLUE (GA)
UNITED FUTBOL ACADEMY UFA 04 PREMIER (GA)
CONCORDE FIRE NORTH 04 ELITE (GA)

Academy or Rec?
Try having only one defender go to the ball with maybe one other close by but not too close. (enough space to react to the ball or be a back up if that defender is unsuccessful) Make sure you always have shape in the back-line. When you do get possession of the ball switch the field of play. Your wingers should have heals touching sideline so it opens up field of play. Try doing keep away drills. As time goes on and you do face a team that plays "swarm ball" you will be able to pass and play keep away from them, thus making them run all over the field.
Always try to play in shape so they can play simple. Simple passes and open up field.
Tons of other ways...Hope this helps.

I think you took his sarcasm a little to seriously. Its obviously not the equivalent of rec soccer. However, this same AFC team is in one of the top brackets in the NASA tourney, no top u12 team should be playing Classic V -- period. AFC's team can't play with the big boys, but they aren't bad and playing at such a low level isn't beneficial to them or the teams they play. And AFC doesn't have problems scheduling teams, we've played them every season for almost 3 years. AFC is not a small club and that is not a justification. I can see DDYSC having some issues scheduling games being a smaller club. Would be interesting to see how that team looks at 11v11 now. The classic V south makes a little more sense, some u12 teams, but teams that would have trouble finding games. UFA South Georgia, Macon, and a team from Warner Robins. They do get the games scheduled and plenty of good U12 talent to get some good games in. I think it would have to do with rescheduling games. If the games get canceled it seems like a hassle to get them rescheduled.

Its a hard choice but your right jumpjumpkeep311, no rescheduled games. Cant justify playing just only 4 games in the Spring because its such a hassle to reschedule academy games. Teams have no choice but to put themselves into classic to make sure the teams get games in.
If we had a managed schedule for U12's this wouldn't happen.

That was a great game. North missed some opportunities but it was a great battle. The level of play was pretty high. The CF U12 battle was pretty good as well.
Seems like a lot of talent from all the teams across the board for U12 and U13.

Do you think the CF tournament results helped determine the U13 brackets? Some teams did good and others not so good.

Yeah we only played 5 games this past Spring. You would think if it was "all" about development then all the games on would have been made up. I know we tried calling 4 teams to reschedule and got no return calls or emails. One wanted too but just couldn't fit it in.
I wish they (GA soccer) had set games for younger age groups. Try and control the younger age groups from the start. I know Texas has started doing set schedules and hear its working out pretty well for them.
I think next year things will be different (hope so). Anyways, looking forward to watching some good games this weekend. Some pretty good match-ups.

As a parent of one of the U12 C2 teams... All of us parents had a long talk about it as well. We decided to play up in tournaments last year to see how the boys would handle the size difference, speed etc... The boys held their own and the games really challenged them. From losses or wins by 1 or 2 points. Instead of wins by 5 or 8 points.
We all felt that the boys grew by playing kids at their level of play. Yes, we had teams in our age group that could challenge but for some reason never got scheduled or our games would get canceled.
As for touches on the ball for development goes... That's all we do during practice. Small sided games and touching drills. Speaking for our team... I dont see the big difference between the touches from 8v8 to 11v11 if you play possession style soccer. I think the shape collapses much faster in 8v8 which could lend itself to kicking the ball down the field more (cause they all have a leg). In 11v11 it allows the players to open up much wider, develop the play, and move the ball down the field.
I just want to see close challenging games. If a win comes out in the end, then its a bonus.

I didnt see any U12's playing classic 1. I couldnt find the link to the U13's.
I have a dog in the fight but really doesnt matter where we get placed. I do know C2 and some C1 teams would be the best towards our team development. I do understand that true U13 teams may get bumped by a team that plays up. However, some true U13 cant be competitive with some U12's so how does one do the placement?? Does the true U13 get the C2 spot or the U12?? Do all U12 teams enter the classic level at 3? That might work. If they are good enough they will be in C2 in Spring.
I would like to see a tournament (maybe Academy Cup) that determines U12 placement into Classic. ?? The top 2 teams get a birth in Classic 2 and then only two more get into C3. This limits the U12 teams that can play up into the classic level.

I agree. It will be DA first.
Have to agree again with touchlinedad on it could have been a better deal for Dekalb County. I do like that in 30 years they will own the location. I wont see the benefit...I'll just be a grumpy old man.
The $12 million I would look at it as a positive. (cant really change that now). You could say that the tax payers just paid for the first 2 or 3 year salary of a top player...lol

youthsoccerdad- On my sons team alone has 7 players that travel over 45 mins. Some live in Canton, Acworth, Dawsonville, lawrenceville and we train in Johns Creek.
We have three kids that moved from out of state for the soccer.
You will find that the MLS will draw the top talent. I have seen it in three different MLS cities. People move to get into better school zones, some people move for better career opportunities... and some move for better soccer development.
Think about the money we all spend. I cant speak for everyone but if your child is on the top team you're spending at least 3k a year on travel, privates, club fees, etc.. for 7-10 years. If you are investing in your child's development, you want to try and get the best return.
By no means am I saying that players will not continue to develop at other clubs. They are and will continue to do so but you will find that ALL the clubs will recognize that the MLS academy is where all top players are and will refer them to the MLS. This is how feeder systems work. This is done all over the world.
Very, very exciting times here in the ATL.

I think lots will drive all that way, even some will move closer. I know some families that already drive 45min-1hr to regular academy training. You will be surprised. I know of 4 top Orlando City DA players that live in Tampa and travel to Orlando 4-5 days a week for training. Let the games begin

Does anyone have more information about this series, first hand?
Is it good?

League. This event represents an elite group of players coming together to display their soccer talent and work ethic to

I think it's great rifle...and kind of crazy but when you think of it 9 for sure games (weather permitting) before season starts is a great way for the players and parents to get to know each other. They are all somewhat local so no real crazy travel and no overnight.
We did only two last year and felt that an extra tournament would have been perfect for the players.

It was hard for us to get kids together most of the summer with ODP and Super Y. We did have two weeks of fitness training as a team. Camp is next week for us. Just our team but may do small sided games with other teams in the club. We are doing 3 preseason tournaments so the boys will get at least 9 full games as a team before season starts.
Finally school starting and soccer!! Love this time of year.

Yeah a little drama...lol
He was/is very knowledgeable. Just a bummer that it came to that. They really game him all the opportunities to move on but it didnt stop. The board had no choice but to let him go. Very unfortunate.
Lots of cool things coming down the road from Terminus.
They are going to be celebrating the 500th member milestone at the CONCACAF tailgate with the American Outlaws. Should be a great time.

Very cool site indeed.
JR is no longer part of the Terminus Legion and has been banned. To my understanding, he raised a huge fuss over the whole logo/ naming thing and called out key people within Atlanta United. He was asked to "just let it go" and he continued to create a negative impression.
He raised valid points but took it a little too far.
