Looking at bringing my daughter (07) and son (05) from NTH to UFA. We live in the middle of both clubs and not sure which way to go. From what I’ve seen lately, UFA Norcross is starting to get ahead both on the boys and the girls. caught the 07 game between Forsyth and norcross this afternoon and norcross looked way better. Seems like the 05 Sccl boys do very well. Anyone else have an opinion?

I think that Norcross tends to be closer at the academy ages for girls, but as you get older Forsyth gets stronger. As usual it depends on age group. Both of the coaches for the 07 girls are good ones. I guess it would depend on which coach or league you like better. SCCL has less travel than NPL. NPL can be a bit hit or miss with the commitment of the opponents...meaning that you may have some teams forfeit because it interferes with their state league. The boys it is very close between Forsyth and Norcross top team.

The Forsyth girls are stronger than Norcross On the boys side, it depends on the team.

I think it's fair to say it depends on the team at either club up until about U14-U15 07G Norcross beat 07G Forsyth today 2-0. Norcross 07G premier coach next year is Sergio and league is SCCL Forsyth 07G premier coach next year is NK and league is NPL
One reason the girls may be stronger as they get older at Forsyth is the perceived idea that the NPL team is next in line to DA.
So a lot of people moved to UFA NPL for the "chance" to be seen for DA

Sounds like you might be in the Lambert school district. Good place to be. Don't know anything from the girls side. On the boys side the Norcross 05 team is very good. Message me and I can fill you in on the Norcross 05 Boys team. Also know the Fowler team fairly well.

You happen to have two kids that fall in line with the corresponding teams that are better out of Norcross.
The Pros - The 2005 boys team Coached by Tom is a phenomenal team. I believe they won the SCCL championship this past weekend. You have a bunch of players that I think could have played on the 2005 DA team. For the girls 2007 team, the Norcross team has played the Forsyth team(NPL) twice and beaten them twice. Now IMO the Norcross just looked better and were maybe even better coached.
The Cons - The current coach for the 2005 boys is departing for GSA, you will also be loosing some boys to the DA team potentially. So it will depend on who takes the team and who stays. I have heard that Dan is a taking that team next year. On the girls side, they had an issue with the number of players. Sadly, the issue of numbers is a prevailing issue at Norcross. Also some did not like the Coach, however, Sergio is taking that team and he's a very good coach. The team as it currently is, came in second in the SCCL this past weekend. Based on the issues some had with the coach, i'm not sure if most of the players will stay or if they will come together some or a whole lot and collectively leave. Remember ECNL starts at U13 and DA starts the following year. I've known families to hedge their bets and go somewhere to put them in prime position to make a team a couple of years out.
I will say, UFA tends to have very good coaches. As is always the case you will have conflicts about playing time, rate of development, etc. But they tend to have really good coaches who stress development over winning exclusively. Good luck

Good luck Mostly accurate on boys 05. Couple of tweaks. Right now appears only one player may go DA. 2-3 more could go DA but will not based on wanting to play for their school. One player will play football in Fall and return after season is over likely in November. One of the 2 goal keepers is heading to another club to train with a specific coach. So outside of any changes based on tryouts, 2-4 players will not be there in the fall. Dan Dawson will be the coach (unless something changes and sometimes it does happen). Previous coach did a great job with this team and players wanted to come in and play for him. Dan has a good reputation so it remains to be seen how many players are familiar and may come to tryouts for the team. Record for the year was 31-5-4. 3 of those losses came against CESA in SCCL play... missed a penalty in two Spring games that turned ties into losses. 1 loss was 1-0 to Smyrna (national league) in the downpour that ended the UFA Fall tournament. Should have been a win. Other loss was to Vestavia Hills in SCCL play but went 4-1-0 against them.

The key is to make sure your daughter has her fundamentals in place and is otherwise up to the challenge. If so, then it should be a solid fit and excellent development opportunity with either club/coach.

WoW That is not true, for the 2008s NTH did a smash n grab and siphoned off at least 8 premier players and 3 from Forsyth. For the 2007s a multitude of clubs siphoned off half the premier team players. So I hear that for the 2007s they will no longer be SCCL 1 out of Norcross but instead will now be an SCCL 2 team by combining what was the premier and red teams and now being coached by someone else(don't have that info). Some parents are not happy since they came to Norcross to play SCCL 1. On Thursday before tryouts began, they were told to haul butt to Forsyth if they wanted to make the SCCL 1 team. If I remember correctly, both age groups had strong teams and good players last year and the one or two times I saw them play against the Forsyth location teams, they seemed better coached and I believe may have won to. As my old stomping grounds, hard to see them struggle like this 😓😓

For the 08 team it is more surprising given their success. I can understand why those parents would be mad about the change of plan, but if the teams lost most of their star players it makes sense to drop them down to SCCL-P. It is a shame though.

I know several parents and players who voluntarily and willingly left their current Club to try out at NTH. Maybe some were recruited by NTH (none to my knowledge) but more likely by another parent. The multiple families that I know went totally on their own without any coercion. From what we read about Norcross on this forum most of those players were ready to leave without being "pulled". maybe I was just thrown off by your semantics :-) keep up the great work

The mass amount of top players from Norcross and 2 top Forsyth players leaving should have been a wake up call to the club as a whole. I know players leave every year but in this case this was totally preventable had the club cared.
So the assumption a certain parent did the recruiting is silly. Too much $, drive time increase etc involved to be swayed by “one parent”. It’s the lack of from their current club that caused the mass exodus. Hopefully TH is a better situation from all involved!

I was using it more in terms of the fact that they were ripe for the picking and easily being convinced to make the move. The coach and powers that be took the 08s for granted as returning en-mass and were never thought of as a potential loss. The three parents I've spoken to have said flatly that it was because of the coach and his antics. Yes they won, yes they were successful but many had made up their minds not to return and this included players that made the move to Norcross with him. I don't personally know the coach, and my kids had aged out before he arrived, but it's still tough to see all the chaos unraveling. Glad i'm done with this.

Huh? This makes no sense! TH "developed all their players." Ask them, that's what they tell you. What do you mean they took 8 kids? There would be no need bc they develop kids from within and would never recruit. Someone needs to do a fact check on this!

I often wonder when I read about teams ripe for the picking on here over the years. Entire teams moving clubs. Deals being made when coaches move clubs that players come with them. Players leaving teams en masse. Etc.
The soccer community is not “that” anonymous. All it takes is one person posting it and one other person reading it and then taking that information to the fields and speaking it as truth to the other parents.
Since this is specifically turning into a thread about one coach and 3 teams they coach at one UFA club it gets pretty obvious who the coach and teams are.
So several players from 3 age groups at LSA follow him to his new teams at Norcross and two years later move on at age U12/U13/U14 to TopHat how is this a bad reflection on coach?
To me (and maybe it’s because I’m not involved) it reads as he was a coach the younger girls and their parents liked enough to stay with during Academy years. They moved to SCCL and did well enough that now they are moving up to TopHat.
If Tophat is interested in that many players from Norcross which from what I’ve read in the forum is the weaker less respected club at UFA then obviously the coach and leadership at Norcross are doing something RIGHT to get that many girls promoted to Tophat!
Curious if someone in the know ... knows why all those girls didn’t go up to Fowler instead? Are they hedging their bets early that time in SCCL at U12/U13 will set them up better for DA or DPL at TopHat? Why not go to Fowler for NPL or PreDA?

The reason they didn't go to Fowler and why the top players from Forsyth went to TH as well is simply put...lack of management and general wanting to put the girls first attitude by those who run UFA as WHOLE. The talent in the 08's between the two clubs was AMAZING and it was simply silly that they clubs weren't combined for tournaments last year such as Disney. The parents have asked and pleaded for the teams to be combine this year and was told No. So off they went to TH. You want your kids to play with the best (its not about wins v losses) you just want your kid challenged. This was why the merge of talent between Norcross and Fowler was well over-due. Had the powers that be made it happen...you'd have one big happy UFA family.....

Perhaps it was the $2300+ price tag of SCCL/SCCL-P at UFA???

The ironic part is the numbers were still at Fowler so they could care less. NORCROSS will have a team I’m sure- they always manage the impossible. The soccer ball will keep spinning.

Not sure if I agree with your "lack of management and ironic" comments. - UFA lost some top players both at Norcross and Forsyth but they are also gaining from other clubs. - Initially they were supposed to form 2-3 teams at Forsyth and it is official now that they will have 4 teams with AW, AK, LS, MK coaching in that order. Norcross has GREAT coaches as well so yes the ball will spin and club will be fine. - Poaching is prevalent at all clubs but some are exceptional at it, NTH is prime example. NTH Milton poached some top Concorde 08 girls at a Futsal tournament in the winter. They played Spring at NTH Milton and most if not all are headed back to Concorde. Unfortunately this sort of culture exists across the board which is despicable but we parents are partly to blame. - Promises made and not kept causing turnover at NTH as well, so the way I see it is that this game of poaching is played to recruit top layers across the board. - I also see NTH developing some great players. It is not that black and white to say NTH just poaches and doesn't develop. Off topic - I loved and admired GOOD OLD Tophat but I am not sure with the new NTH culture. - I still feel lucky with some great clubs like AU, Concorde, NTH, UFA, GSA, SSA and AFU (sorry if I missed others) developing and producing soccer talent at the highest levels. P.S: Sorry for the long post.

Had the powers that be made it happen...you'd have one big happy UFA family..... How did they want to be combined? Some central location for practice? South Forsyth perhaps? Who did they want to coach this combined team? I think the concept is fine but the reality is that it would be a challenge to have a combined team for the coaches. Since all of the coaches have multiple teams and the Forsyth coaches train out of Fowler and the Norcross coaches train out of Pickneyville, how do these coaches train other teams? If they all wanted to combine so badly then pick a location and go tryout together there. Since only 2 Forsyth kids left I am guessing (but only know one kid on this team so I don't know this for sure) I suspect that the whole team wasn't all gungho on the idea or else couldn't travel. As an aside for the 08 at Forsyth, how much did changing coaches from one AW to and different AW play into the decision??

I think it’s a matter of dedication and what you want for your kid. Some are more willing to be “put off” year after year...Some aren’t. This is why they left. I think AW not coaching was the final straw but not sure he could have kept them there...But you might have seen Norcross girls at Fowler if he was there coaching instead of at TH.
The combined thing could have been accomplished in many ways, like many clubs do (at least for tournaments).
At the end of the day let’s see how the rosters end up? Did EVERYONE make the TH team?
