Interesting comments on the new Carleton signing. Early physical maturity, skill and a lot of hard work got him out in front early and he somewhat squandered it due to immaturity. Easy target. Probably going to be on a very short leash. Hope he does well.

Yep -- this is it for sure. Be successful maybe you make your way back into MLS, fail and his ability to make money playing soccer is essentially over.
So freaking talented, and relentless. I saw pieces of it when he go on the pitch with the first team. Never really saw the magic with the 2s though. I still think he was light years beyond Wolff.
I hope he makes it back, kid could play -- but we all know its a tough road back. Even if you proof yourself at this point, clearly there is baggage their and many clubs just don't even care about domestic talent anyway other than having to complete a roster. But given the international presence of most teams, why bring in a player that clearly has different opinions than most of your club and players.
Maybe he is a changed man, but I haven't seen any public apologies from him, only what's above from the club. It's crazy to think that if he actually stormed the capital he probably would be in jail.
to me it's also very strange for "supporter" groups to come out with things like this?

I love the enthusiasm of supporter's groups but holy cow do they all take themselves way too seriously. Putting out "statements" about new signings is laughable, I'm sorry.

Sadly, the supporters groups do have sway and power since they are the loyalists that spend on tickets, events, and the 14th home/alternate kit in 18 months. In the ATL, we're lucky that we have multiple SGs. Other clubs/cities are not always as lucky, so in those cities they carry more $way and Power$
On a side note, I do wish AC well. I do hope he's allowed to grow and rebuild his career. Praying he also realizes he's on his 9th life and not many will give him additional opportunities. So glad he didn't storm the capital, as I think that would have made him to polarizing for clubs to sign...

Unfortunate loss for the 2s. From following on Twitter (I didn’t watch) it appeared Reyes was having a quality game.
Nice save here.
But you can’t let this one in - either catch it or punch it, but you have to be stronger than that.

Carleton played in the last 2 San Deigo Loyal games.
you can see him wide open here -- madness! (https://www.transfermarkt.us/andrew-carleton/leistungsdaten/spieler/370841 has him playing only 1 minute, but clearly he's in the game here in the 76th minute)

Good for him if he is getting playing time.

if interested in hearing him repent for his sins -- listen in:
The interviewer is interesting, he seems uncomfortable having to ask some questions
some really good parts, around minute 12, he gets really mature. Then around 14:45 he gets into his DC visit. essentially he states later after that he had no contract, no agent etc and that nobody wanted to "talk" to him at that time.
Minute 21:30 he asks a very interesting question as well...I'm not sure if he gets it to be honest..

Watched the interview at 2x speed and found it somewhat interesting but repetitive. Interviewer seemed to want to ask more but decided he wouldn’t bother because AC just wants “to work hard and be a good teammate”. Rightfully so. He clearly realizes that he nearly squandered his talent and hopefully the experience lit a fire under his butt to just go play. Still pulling for him to play in another country.

Is a pass in the final third a good thing? I don’t think that I have ever seen that as a stat.

Is a pass in the final third a good thing? I don’t think that I have ever seen that as a stat. Lately soccer stats are beginning to rival basketball or baseball (maybe not baseball) with the numerous categories they track. Completed passes in the final third is an important statistic because the ball is in a dangerous area and could potentially lead to a chance on goal. I personally think unforced errors ( I know it’s a tennis term) is a huge stat that goes unnoticed. How many times does someone get the ball and just kick the ball out of bounds or just passes the ball to the opposition with absolutely no pressure on them? Soccer is way to complex to only be concerned with goals and assists.

Soccer is way to complex to only be concerned with goals and assists. Agreed. A couple years ago I started seeing this circular dart board looking diagram that somehow correlated to expected goals and created chances and converted chances. It was kind of fascinating but I haven’t seen one in a while - So that yardstick either failed to catch on or the data wasn’t consistent enough to make it accurate/useful. I can imagine any statistic like that being controversial because it’s not like balls and strikes and backward K’s in baseball- all things which are obvious to a room full of observers. Giving a soccer ball away under pressure versus not under pressure is still kinda subjective. No idea how you would reliably track all the nuances in soccer.

I am just thinking about all of the passes on the sideline in the attacking third where two players are kind of tick-tocking back and forward on the wing. The number of completed passes in the attacking third is going way up but nothing is happening and there is no pressure on the defense. Also, as I was trying to figure out what this new stat was, I ran across an analysis that looked at how the ball went into the attacking third and looked at the percentage of time it resulted in a shot. The numbers were that a ball dribbled into the attacking third in the center of the field resulted in a shot 25% of the time whereas a ball passed into the attacking third on the right wing resulted in a shot 13% of the time.

I hope he turns the page on those politics and wins back his fans.

Carleton - USL - San Diego Loyals - getting very few minutes the past games, coming of an injury, but given he is playing must be healthy Goslin - without club Bello - Bundesliga 2 relegated, Arm Eielfeld - minutes decreased last month of season Patrick Okonkwo - KSA --- not looking good Lagos Kunga - brief stint with Norway first tier team, didn't play -- now listed without club since jan 2022

I hope the next batch of HGs have better success. 3/5 pretty much without club isnt a very good story.

It's interesting Okonkwo was an opportunists goal scorer, most didn't think he would be successful at the next level. Some said Goslin had more of an upside than Carleton, but that fizzled quickly. Kunga seemed to shine his freshman year at Paideia then cooled down as well. I haven't watched Bello play in a while, but always felt defending and tracking back was the weakness of his game, and thought that was an issue for a defender.....
Carleton will need an explosive year next season in USL, or he probably will be a USL lifer.
Conway doesn't seem like he will ever get legit first team minutes, my guess he's moved or a 2 for life Wolf looking to get moved and I don't consider him a true homegrown anyway Campbell playing alot now due to all the injures Morales -- not sure, he's played well when I've watched but the 2's are so difficult to gauge. I felt it was a huge mistake signing a homegrown deal to be honest. Wiley looks good when he plays besides some young mistakes, will be very interesting to see where he lands over the next few years.

Kind of scary -- ain't easy becoming a pro:
Carleton - Without Club Goslin - Without club Bello - Bundesliga 2 relegated, Arm Eielfeld - minutes have decreased, but haven't paid much attention Patrick Okonkwo - FC Cosmos - 6th tier German League Lagos Kunga - Al_khums SC - Libya
