Although this is terrible for the kid getting the rescinded offer- it’s becoming typical Soccer landscape (not just TH although some will TRY to argue) Shady recruiting just seems to be what some COACHES are about and they range all over all clubs Big 5 and beyond....

I heard from a parent in 05 and in 08 who had their offers rescinded (both within the top 2 teams)....More was an "oh, we don't remember saying that" situation than actually coping to rescinding the offer. That's just sad... I love the game but the extra stuff is not really needed just be upfront about things and keep it real.

I agree rescinding offers is horrible and I also agree it’s not just Tophat. I have personal knowledge of it happening at Concorde, UFA, AFU and GSA over the years of soccer. Might be last minute coaching or playing level changes, might be miscommunication, might be misunderstanding between coaches and parents or players of what was intended and what was actually going to happen. Regardless it’s terrible when it happens and the only ones it actually affects are the kids!

Not to lump every coach and club into the same bucket but.........if you are the parents of young kids just getting started a few things to keep in mind......... 1. Don't trust any club 2. Don't trust 90% of the coaches. Don't know what coaches to trust then ask someone who has been around for a while. 3. Every club expects loyalty to the club from the parents and kids. 4. Almost every club does not show the same loyalty in return. 5. Want to make a higher level team? 90% of the time just change clubs. 6. If you are on the bottom third of your team watch your back, you will be replaced in a second from the kids choosing number 5 above.

100% true. Sometimes its not even your coach, but the DoC who tells the coach "you have to take this kid" for political reasons. We have a bit of that on our team and its painful to the ones who get cut/dumped for a less skilled kid. It also sucks when you get beat out by a better player. I don't know if the kids really get it (its got to be a bit ego-shattering) and they have to learn to come to terms with it.

The problem with just put the kid on X team regardless of whether they are good enough is that it doesn’t do the kid any good. Kids have to play to develop not sit the bench 75% of the time. Just being on a team because of whatever reason other than they earned it doesn’t do the kid or the team any good. Best thing any coach ever did for my kids was come tell me my kid was athletic enough to make the top team but didn’t think it was right for her. He said let’s push her down let her play 100% of the minutes all year, build her confidence and see where that takes her. By the end of the year, brand new kid who continues to grow each year. Thank coach was Ricky Clark

Rumors are flying about the 07 Girls abandoning ship and heading for ECNL programs. Is it happening at other age groups? Without ECNL can Tophat recruit the Top talent? Will Tophat promote from within? Are those girls from 2nd and 3rd teams that could supposedly beat most clubs 1st teams really that talented? Or will Tophat go for other clubs 1st team leftovers? Is Tophat planning just for what is best for next year or what is best for the club in 5-10 years? Stay tuned and find out in the next exciting episode of "As the Tophat World Turns." You are spot on! The TH girls banded together and even requested the removal of the current 07 CF Coach before they came over. That coach’s daughter even played on that team and she was cut as well. All but 3 girls remained. Is anyone aware of who the new 07 CF coach that those girls moved over to play for? If so, it could answer alot of speculation as to why... which stems back to a scrimmage that took place a couple years back (07 TH vs 07 Santos).

Interested in this statement as I heard the new coach of that team is a former/current GK coach? Not sure if this is true.
