As someone in a neighboring state, what’s the current status on HS sports in GA? Good question...around me (outside of Atlanta-West Central GA), football is still on. Some counties initially canceled but b/c parents / athletes complained, it’s back on with limited or no fans. Private schools in the area are still planning on fall soccer.

As of now high school sports are on. Clubs are playing in and out of state (limited out of state at the moment). A friend who is well connected in the high school sports world told me there are rumors of GHSA canceling fall sports, but no announcement yet.

I had heard that as well...also heard they would let it be a local decision. I do hope the kiddos get to play (safely).

Georgia seems to be living on the edge compared with other states. Saw on the national news how Georgia Highs Schools are open and packing the students in like sardines.
In NC, public schools are virtual for the time being and soccer clubs are supposed to be banned from games and scrimmages as there are contact number restrictions under Phase II. Although, I see a few NC clubs are traveling to the CESA ECNL Friendlies...they obviously don't feel the state guidelines and NC Youth Soccer Association guidelines apply to them. NC High School Fall sports have been postponed to Winter & Spring. I think football now starts in February.

So what’s everyone’s thoughts on the national leagues (GA and ECNL) playing soccer this fall. Have you heard anything? Do you think it will happen?

Dekalb County Schools announced today that all athletic activities are suspended until the end of September though conditioning can continue.

Georgia has been the least restricted state and I don't see that changing.

GA has a larger % of COVID cases per capita than NC and even had a 7 year old die from COVID last week.

Our School District just made masks mandatory for EVERYONE in the schools ...Pre-K and up...starting Monday.
Not debating the effectiveness of masks either way but a lot of people are wondering why the change or why not have the requirement in place when we started two weeks ago.

They believe the fever was caused by Covid-19. Here's the most recent article on his death: www.ajc.com/news/atlanta-news/more-details-released-on-7-year-old-georgia-boys-coronavirus-death/MNTHT4CKBJCRNDHPAIF7UHDWEM/

Might have to do with the issues seen in Cherokee county schools and the fact that the White House coronavirus task force recommended that GA implement a mask mandate.

It is very sad but the 7 year old had covid and was taking a bath. They believe that he had febrile seizure while in the bath and he drowned. While the death is being attributed to COVID it is a bit of a stretch to me.

I have no issue with every school district in the state saying "you want to attend school in person, you have to wear a mask". The schools, while public, are a service. Local governments are free to put restrictions on the use of services (drive on public roads/wear a seat belt and have insurance, attend school/wear appropriate clothes).
With regard to mandates themselves they're still too vague. I've heard innumerable ads saying "wear a mask outdoors". So playing devil's advocate...hiking...alone...in Montana...you have to wear a mask??? You cannot have a vague mandate like this. If you want to have such a mandate, you need to clearly define EXACTLY when you have to be wearing a mask (inside public buildings, inside all businesses, within n feet of non-family members, etc). And if you're going to add enforcement to such a mandate, there needs to be photographic proof, as well as proof that those they are close to are unrelated (same burden of proof for other criminal activity).
Personally, when I'm walking from my vehicle to the front door of a business my mask is exactly where it should be...in my hand. I'm not going to give COVID to cars, asphalt, concrete or trees from simply breathing. If you're clear of people, you should not have to wear a mask, period. And I'm in favor of police ticketing people wearing masks in their cars as it can create a dangerous situation.
And put restrictions on churches, casinos and bars for ****'s sake.

A mask in a car is dangerous?
(I find it humorous... and understandable if driving with a non family member)

XC?) there’s not really any HS sports right now at all. And those two HS sports are practicing as normal.

GA has a larger % of COVID cases per capita than NC and even had a 7 year old die from COVID last week. And Florida had a Covid related motorcycle death a few weeks ago... They did pull that out of the stats finally. Check out rt.live for best stats. GA is doing just fine. And why aren't there innumerable biohazard bins to collect all of these tainted masks? Asking for a friend.

35.5 million illnesses in the 2018-19 flu season according to CDC. 35,000 official deaths. There are questionable death counts with Covid. We are 6 months in and the infected numbers are 1/8 of the 35.5 million from 2108-19 flu. Time to get back open.

You really think that they're fudging the numbers by over 115,000? That would be 3.5-4x more fake numbers vs the real flu numbers. That's a lot of fudge.

Again.. lets say that's a perfectly correct number. A 25% over reporting of the numbers you posted would be about 9000 additional cases, not 115,000. We'd be talking about a 450% over reporting.

In the world of statistics, this over reporting number is unacceptable. 25% of 175000 is much more than your number. Its actually closer to 45000.
