Any word on TH coaching assignments? The word is, alot of kids are looking to leave TH! Same story, different year. They were all looking to leave last year too (so the story goes), but with one age group exception, there wasn’t more churn than any other year. Kids come and go every year, all (I.e parents) looking for a utopia that doesn’t exist anywhere

As usual that probably depends on age group and level. Also the coaches apparently found out this weekend but club has yet to post. OMG! I wish they would post them already! I suspect they are giving them some time to discuss. I have heard of some changes from the original plans. Until it is posted I think it is all rumors. Plus last year I know of a coach at UFA and one at Tophat that were removed from teams and given different ones after the original posting.

Will KH keep the talented 08 group? Dispute rumors of bad leadership and just ok coaching? I think so, but not 100% sure. Rumors say yes. Bad leadership by the coach? Asking because the ok coaching comment makes it seem like two separate people? I always find the coaching comments interesting. A few 08 parents that I have spoken with were totally good with him. It is so hard to know because so many things are just so personal when it comes to coaching.

Poor leadership from TG and “ok” coaching from KH. In reality it has to do with GAL vs ECNL and lack of playing time for some girls who believed they earned/deserved more.

I personally think at U13 and U14 each kid should get 1/2 of a game still even at the highest levels. Not equal playing time but have a small enough roster that you can give kids time on the field even at more than one position. They need to develop. This year I know several older girls who changed positions due to weaknesses on their teams or injuries and just needed someone to step up. Even pros sometimes change positions. We should give them time on the field and time at multiple positions so they can succeed later on.

Yeah, but how likely is it that the 08 gold team breaks up? I mean they say that they're leaving every year. I personally am starting to think that the parents just like the attention of being recruited. Let's just say that I'll believe it when it happens. Until then it's just speculation at best.

What I think is that the same parents who are upset at their kids not getting enough playing time, go to another team expecting their kid to play the whole game...and then we complain that the coach subs out players with no regard to talent, effort, etc LOL.. damned if you do and damned if it’s your player who isn’t the star 💫

I think that “ok” coaching comes down to a lack player development from said coach and coaches of top teams. Couple that with a lack of communication and accountability from leadership. I do think there will be some departures for that reason. The difference this year will be less kids/parents gravitating to TH from other top club teams. Which seemed to always soften the blow. Their plan for a particular age group was severely disrupted... it’s just no longer the destination club it once was. That fact seems to get highlighted against head-to-head competition outside of the SE.

At what age do we start to specialize positions and at what age does “starting player” play the entire game? I’m assuming it happens at keeper first and the up top with mid field and defense being a little more interchangeable?

I can understand that entirely. What I think SHOULD happen and what actually does are two different things. That 08 team dominated so badly after 3 goals up he should have been moving offense to defense and vice versa and putting starters on the bench for a while as well.

At what age do we start to specialize positions and at what age does “starting player” play the entire game? I’m assuming it happens at keeper first and the up top with mid field and defense being a little more interchangeable? There are several different things to unpack here. At what age do we start to specialize positions? Most of that seems to depend on the coach. There are some coaches at U10, 11, 12 that believe that they know what position a kid should play and only plays the kid at that position. It typically starts from the back and moves forward. Keeper is first but that is usually selected by the kid wanting to be a keeper. Then it is centerbacks, then center mids. Outside mids and outside backs are largely interchangeable. Unless a forward is truly elite, it is position that seems to get rotated around more. if the question is when should a player specialize, the answer is much different. I am a big believer that kids ought to learn multiple positions and play wherever the coach asks them too. George Bello is a perfect example. I don't think that the kid ever played outside back in his life until Atlanta United moved him there. Now, he is an outside back/winger. At what age does "starting player" play the entire game? The answer here is much the same. Part of it depends on roster size. A smaller roster allows for more players to play the entire game. A larger roster requires more subs. The kids who typically play the entire game are keepers and centerbacks. Maybe a defensive mid until the substitution rules change at the ECNL level or U15. As long as there are unlimited subs, it is tough for a player running the entire game to stay in the game against players that are being rotated out. Most coaches don't like to mess with there centerbacks so that kids stay in the whole game.

This is helpful to get outside perspective that isn’t our coach or other parents on the team who sometimes have very different opinions of what should be happening for U9-11.

u9-u12 small sided teams rosters should be small -- 2-3 subs is all you need for a top team. keep kids moving in and out and, and everyone ends up playing a lot of soccer.

I always find the coaching comments interesting. A few 08 parents that I have spoken with were totally good with him. I too find the coaching comments interesting. I thought that talented 08 team won everything, so i am unsure as to what the problem could be. IMO from past experiences, when winning isn't the reason, teams find other issues to pick at(playing times, playing up, coaching styles, perceived favoritism, etc.). I wonder if the fact that these girls don't play their local counterparts as much or traverse the country to find worthy teams to play against is getting tiresome(btw good-luck in Austin). Or could it be the ECNL vs GAL comparison rearing it's ugly head again. When you have an all-star team, from the outside it may look rosy, but internally there might be a lot festering. I also think sometimes no one wants to be the one to break up the band so to say. Will be interesting to see how things end up when the transfer portal opens up next month. Not going to speculate because I think parents on that team should make decisions that benefit their individual kids. Last I checked, no college or soccer federation recruits a whole team. Wishing them all good fortunes as they decide on next moves...

I think up to U14 with growth physically n mentally you should leave your options open. I know players who in younger days were scoring machines but end up going to college or the pro ranks as a defender and vice-versa. IMO I think at U15/16 (freshman/sophomore years) is when you narrow down and specialize. By then your body and mindset dictates whether you're a defender, striker/forward or a middy. It also gives you a couple of years to "master" that position so that when the scouts come looking you're in the best form and have the experience to show well. Advice a coach once gave me is this - have your kids play opposites when possible. If your kid is a defender on their team, when they go do pick-ups, have them play as a forward. In today's game, being a defender doesn't mean you can't punch up the wings or along the spine of the field. It keeps those skills sharper and may even help you as a defender in knowing how a forward/striker thinks...

Does anyone have any information about Nasa ECNL ID camps? Not sure they will have one. I say that because if I remember correctly, it would be hypocritical of their newly minted Boys ECNL Director who some time ago while he was Boys DA Director at CF punished lads who went to ID Camps for other clubs. At the time, I believe his train of thought was you're obligated to the club till your last game and having any dealings before that last game was sure to have you excluded from any further dealings with CF...

Makes sense. And with the USClub/GaSoccer split and May 1 date now it’s the Wild West. I already know one player who is missing her game Sunday to attend the UFA ECNL camp and there’s nothing the coach can do. These ID camps are going to ruin so much now.

If I'm reading things correctly, the following ID Camps are this weekend. I might be missing one or more.
Saturday - AFU (they have another next Friday) Sunday - UFA, Concorde, GSA
It seems the 3 on Sunday might be trying to make sure their players don't stray to other clubs.
