I suspect they’ll be in court for a while. Seems EPL club supporters groups dislike the American owners... It's not supposed to get going till the 2023-2024 season, so definitely enough time to litigate each other to bankruptcy. Also doesn't help that The Glazers and JP Morgan Chase have a very symbiotic arrangement. JPM Chase btw is ready to financially back this new venture by issuing bonds and the like... There are several places saying August 2021 as an early start date.

I welcome his passion and commentary. But for transparency, Gary Neville is an owner of Salford City, who plays in the 4th division of the English Pyramid - League 2. He benefits from the likes of Man U and the other Power 6 teams who funnel monies down to the 2nd, 3rd and 4th divisions… As opposed I guess to going to the pockets of greedy owners who couldn't care less about the sport, or the fans, or basic solidarity in the middle of a pandemic. Because that's what their so called Super League is really about. They even had the nerve to call out the pandemic as an excuse when every other club has been struggling to survive, and they're the ones who spend the most. Not to mention the complete disregard of everyone other than themselves. Football benefits from that money in England at its grassroots. It's a pyramid development system for players and teams, that's where the much of the money goes, not to make one richer. England is not US when it comes to football (MLS academies or lack thereof because certain owners do not see the "value" to invest in them but that's for another day). To the English, their football club is a way of life (not a franchise), and for some of them pretty much their life. It is interesting the backlash is mainly coming from Liverpool and Man U fans (kudos to them), more so than the fans of the other 14 EPL clubs, or EFL clubs and all those below that will get screwed over. Their blogs, the FA, UEFA and so many experts can explain this better and why that NBA based league scheme is a disgrace at so many levels.

This has been discussed for at least the last several years-each time with soccers governing bodies opposed to it. It will be interesting to see if this does move forward whether the EU will sanction them for anti-competitive behavior (monopoly). I’m sure clubs will then say “look at the US -NFL, Baseball, etc.” If this does move forward it’s the end of the pyramid for EPL and other top leagues in Europe.

Hmm, no relegation for a group of clubs that want to control their own destiny and set their own rules.........I don’t think anyone here should complain about this situation as it’s literally what the Big 5 did when they formed SCCL and abandoned Georgia Soccer.

It is crazy how SCCL is a microcosm of what happening now. Shows how everything is the same on the grassroots level as it is in the highest level of the game -- its about control and $$$$.
Really -- the ultimate defense is, well they do it in America, and their league at least proposes some form of promotion and relegation for a handful of teams.
The super league cold morph into anything, I could see them adding a few east coast teams in the US at some point if this did happen -- how crazy would that be, because of the $$$ it would require to compete in a super league to buy players, it would make for an interesting dilemma. I'm just thinking a few years down the road, why wouldn't they expand to America, place top Europeans players here and make it true financially competitive side - it's instant money.

SCCL is a local version of the ECNL/NPL villainy. Though I think he is leaving for legal reasons that will become clearer over the next year, Kevin Payne has been part of the corrupting influence of the MLS mindset on youth sport, trying to pick favorites and squeeze money up from the youth sport into pro coffers via CSM. I'm well aware US Club predated him, but he twisted it to match the twisted desires of billionaires. When you are not transparent about why some youth clubs get in and others do not, and don't apply requirements equally to all applications, that makes you a villain IMO. I'm not any more interested in watching a the super garbage than MLess. I had hope AUFC could show the league what support from all economic levels could mean for the game, but they've priced out all but the wealthy season ticket holders, just like NFL. That said, let them go and fail to win a market. A majority of fans will in fact boycott them in favor of sporting merit. Maybe many players too. Ander Herrera is hopefully the tip of the iceberg. I'll support local footy and a few European teams that oppose The Super Garbage. BVB, BM, PSG, etc and lower level clubs.

I woke up today wishing I just had a bad dream. I am still hoping all the stakeholders quit shouting into any and all media/press/microphones put into front of them and lobbing threats at each other. Someone needs to get everyone into one room(even a zoom-room) and hash this out. I honestly don't see the EFL surviving the loss of the Power 6...

Just had a thought....didnt this happen on our local level with SCCL and Ga Soccer…. Started with US Club and ECNL over a decade ago. Didn't it start with USSF and DA a year prior to that? Also, I really don't have a problem with this. Of course they need PSG and others to join for it to be legit. UEFA should really have tried to bring it under their umbrella from the beginning.

I was more so talking about from a monopoly/EU anti competitive behavior point of view. If basketball is doing it (became a completely closed system in 2019), EU will have a difficult time stopping soccer from doing it.

It will be interesting to see if sovereigns make the argument that soccer is too ingrained in the culture not to be regulated by the proper bodies (UEFA, FIFA, et al).

FIFA, UEFA, CONCACAF, LaLiga etc etc none of them is saint. Corruption must be eliminated or at least reduced, through a better platform of checks and balances. That's the type of reform the sport needs. But the so called "European Super League" is not the answer. It will create an even bigger problem letting a different wolf guard the sheep. Total manipulation to monopolize competition through control for more cash. It's just plain wrong, unethical and immoral in so many ways.

You have to assume the founding clubs have all discussed the what ifs, and the big "what if our domestic leagues attempt to kick us out or ban us"
or were they so naïve, that they thought their domestic leagues would not be a road block or hurdle to the new super league

Fans love their clubs, hate their rivals but respect them and want them to be around. Win or lose, they all share and treasure their history and traditional competitions (UCL, EPL, FA cup etc), because the past history still means everything and adds value and meaning to the next matches and the ones after that. Some things are off limits ...

The big clubs overspent and assumed the golden goose would never die. Then Covid came along. The audacity of this is shocking.
It’s exactly what US Club does in US youth soccer and it’s exactly what is wrong with youth soccer. Placement by executive decision rather than sporting merit. It sucks when American soccer does it. If Europe goes this way I will not be shocked but it’ll definitely be sad because a pyramid needs to be about the base more than the top.
Lastly - this poop sandwich very much foreshadows a future pro/rel implementation for MLS.

Word is only 5 club owners are serious about ESL (Liverpool, Man U, Arsenal, Real, Juventus). The rest are using it as leverage for more negotiations with UEFA.

I'm holding out hope that USL/Nurock sees this as its chance to gain fans by 1st putting in pro-rel for usl-c and USL 1 (for those teams that want/can afford it) and 2nd going into talks with NISA/others about the future. Of course, this would require Nurock to become the org that runs the leagues, not the org that runs the clubs. Also, help youth orgs to align to the local adult game/clubs. Lots of "ifs" and not much chance but 🤞🤞🙏🤏

I haven’t heard anyone say they agree with this at This point and Klopp made it sound like they weren’t even in the loop at all.
