Fewer clubs to divide the revenue share and fewer pointless games. The whole impetus for ESL. none are pointless when you can fall out each season. That’s what makes it great. More to the point, the entire ESL season would be pointless.

Interesting take on why Bayern has a stranglehold in the German Bundesliga

So, rumor has it that the FA is going to take points away from the 6 breakaway clubs as punishment for their participation in the planned coup...does this mean the Wolves will be EPL champions?

I am not in favor of that. The matches were played on the field. FA cooking the table is no different than the big clubs forming Super League—not based on merit.

You are right-should probably ban them for a year and make them play in the Championship. Seriously though-that is the rumor. Be curious to see if that changes to a monetary penalty.

Better solution would be a one year ban from champions league.

They were about to screw over domestic football as much as European football, but fans may rebel if they are punished even tho they stopped their clubs from this blasphemy.
Fine each club owner £100M and give it to the lower leagues. If they don't pay, then no FA Cup, Champions League and 24 pts off next season

If banned from UCL, may as well do the ESL as a 1-year alternative. Would be a good test if it's feasible. If it work better and makes more money than UCL, resume ESL as planned.

If anyone is interested in reading about the purely financial reasons for ESL, here's a financial overview of the clubs involved. @swissramble does yearly financial reviews of top teams and posts them on Twitter. This link contains a recent Twitter thread unrolled: unrollthread.com/t/1386562133702414337/Its really frightening to see how much debt the people running these clubs have accrued by overpaying players. They are the reason the agents are so rich and players so overpriced.

Thanks for posting-saw something on the Twitterverse earlier... I have three questions: 1. Will the Gunners be sold? 2. If sold, will this make a difference? 3. Will they allow a fan contingent to hold stock and voice opinions?

Thanks for posting-saw something on the Twitterverse earlier... I have three questions: 1. Will the Gunners be sold? 2. If sold, will this make a difference? 3. Will they allow a fan contingent to hold stock and voice opinions? 1. 3 weeks ago I was 75 - 25 that it was not for sale, after the ESL debacle, the Gunners fans are livid. Now I'm 50-50 that it could be sold; 2. It may make a difference but depends on who actually takes over; 3. Personally, I don't think they will allow a fan contingent to hold actual power at a club like Arsenal. An upstart maybe but not the Gunners; As a follow-up to question 3, there is a movement in world footy for Pheonix Clubs. These are startups that are usually wholly run by the voice of the owners aka fans. Now they usually have to put up some $$$ and then they vote on major decisions regarding the club. Ironically, in January a subset of Arsenal fans banded together to start their version called Dial Square F.C. For long time Arsenal fans, Dial Square was their original name before settling on Arsenal. In the mist of the ESL news, membership requests have spiked in the last few days to be a part of Dial Square F.C. Let's be clear though, they will start at the very bottom rung of the English Football system as in a community league since they were not granted permission to join the 9th division of footy in the England. But the fans absolutely support it for the love of the game...

If banned from UCL, may as well do the ESL as a 1-year alternative. Would be a good test if it's feasible. If it work better and makes more money than UCL, resume ESL as planned. That's the whole point and exactly why going forward UEFA and EPL will see to it that a handful clubs don't get "too powerful" by "winning too much" (would raise popularity). While some clubs will always be bigger, better and more popular than others, that gap has gotten far too big because of their increased revenues from UCL/UEFA the last 20 years, sponsors, TV and merchandise sales. Both UEFA and EPL will look for better parity and save diversity a lot more than ever before. UEFA might not punish EPL clubs now, but they will sanction others if this continues. Also the 14 other EPL clubs plus those in EFL (some with great history and tons of fans) are furious. And they are not powerless, nor will they just let it go without future guarantees so this does not happen again. And there are many ways to do that including how they will split the pie, contracts, ownership and other rule changes. One example for UEFA, the big boys hate the unpopular new 10 game format in group play (ie 17-19 (!) games for the UCL finalists starting 2024), so UEFA can use it as leverage to say ... ok, less games = less money. And starting "ESL" now as a pilot can only be a desperation move before bankruptcy for top Spanish clubs which could force player sales and subsequent UEFA disqualification and relegation from the top domestic division for financial reasons (could become a huge political earthquake in Spain). "ESL" would be a guaranteed failure without the top English, German or French clubs, the ban of those players from the World Cup, loss of sponsorships (already happened just hours after league was announced) , the extra debt from the UEFA sanctions and all legal stuff will cause. For anyone to join could be very risky at this point with a lot more to lose, unless also desperate.

Will they allow a fan contingent to hold stock and voice opinions? As an Arsenal fan, I will give my .02 cents. 1. I give this about a 2% chance of happening. Typically when Silent Stan gets confronted, he deploys his lawyers and fights tooth & nail for what he wants. While lawyers aren't necessarily needed at this point, I see him digging in and not selling (Arsenal is too much of a cash cow for him). While the fanbase is irate, KSE (Kroenke Sports Entertainment) has the Atlantic Ocean to buffer them. 2. Potentially. The feeling is that KSE is using funds from Arsenal to prop up other KSE interests, including the recent completion of the NFL stadium in LA for the Rams. With owners dedicated to the club, and Arsenal only, it could make a difference. 3. It is highly doubtful they will allow fan ownership. However, if they are more transparent, establish a real Board of Directors (instead of the charade that currently exists), and get back to giving the Arsenal Supporters Trust the time of day, it would most likely satisfy most Gunner fans.

Interesting. The media labeled it a “protest”. Looked like a riot to me. But I guess “riots” are “protests” depending on who is engaging in them.

Just like every other protest that has a few (or many) knuckleheads that prefer to riot - the events on this day was both. There is no reason to try and split hairs and pick sides. There is right and there is wrong. It’s not hard to comprehend.

They broke into a stadium that was closed to the public. But that’s a protest? Ok dude. Not at all. Words and signs = protest. Trespassing and breaking stuff or throwing punches, rocks, tripods etc = riot. There can be both and it’s quite easy to discern.

Do I have it right - they paid $800 million for the club and now it’s worth $4 billion?
