Do I have it right - they paid $800 million for the club and now it’s worth $4 billion? If you want to split hairs it's actually worth $4.22 Billion... 🙂 When you are talking those kinds of numbers, that’s rounding error...

I will gladly help discard the rounding error personally...🙂

People watch MLS. I fully admit that prior to Atlanta United I rarely watched MLS, but I do now. There are plenty of good players and good teams out there. We should support our local teams, players and league. While I agree there are issues with soccer in the US professionally and grassroots I do not think the European leagues are perfect. Look at the clubs at the top of EPL and top of Ligue 1 and LA Liga and the Bundesliga. Every year the same clubs qualify for Champions League. Every year Bayern wins the title and PSG wins their title and one of three clubs wins La Liga and same for EPL. Say what you want about our system but money rules in Europe too.

I watch every AU game that I can - sometimes even resorting to [redacted]. I listened to last nights game on the radio. Before AU existed I followed Columbus Crew and Portland Timbers became my favorite team when Darlington Nagbe got signed there (I’m from Akron Ohio so I started watching him there when he first played for Caleb Porter at Akron U). Unfortunately the local broadcast deal AU have is garbage. But let’s be honest. Few people watch MLS. Viewing numbers may be creeping upward (which is welcome to me as a soccer fan) but the league’s expectation of a magical giant TV windfall is a pipe dream. In my opinion MLS has suppressed the growth of the game in this country more than helping it. So it is what it is. No doubt the golden rule exists in Europe. It’s far from perfect but it IS the place to watch the best players in the world until somebody else figures out how to pay them more. Definitely a catch-22 scenario.

What is that quote from the Godfather, "...just when I though I was out, they pull me back in..."
UEFA is planning to expel Real Madrid, Barcelona and Juventus from next season's Champions League (plus a big fine). 🤑 Real Sociedad, Real Betis & Napoli would replace them if ban is upheld 🙉🙈🙊

The danger is creating a demand for ESL by keeping these teams from playing in CL. Just fine them gobs of money, don't expel them. That puts it on the bosses of those 3 clubs if they choose not to play in CL in order to avoid fines.

The danger is creating a demand for ESL by keeping these teams from playing in CL. Just fine them gobs of money, don't expel them. That puts it on the bosses of those 3 clubs if they choose not to play in CL in order to avoid fines. The 2 big Spanish clubs are in dire financial trouble and too desperate. ESL was their only viable option reason they're still rebelling. They can sell players but they're afraid of an uprising if that happens. Can't have it both ways. Problem is Pandora's box opened esp w Man City and PSG with the financial fair play, and must close somehow. Inclusivity is a beautiful thing. Congrats to Villareal winning the Europa League today, their ticket to the Champions League.
