I have heard of friends at 2 local clubs whose players were offered the “ECRL” team with a “chance to possibly train and guest play in ECNL”.
Remember, ECRL is basically the current SCCL teams with a fancier name for next season. Also, when you are second team at a club you get labeled second team. The bigs clubs are always looking for the shiny new object to fill their ecnl openings the following season and rarely is that from their own second team.

Caution is appropriate but i know NASA has consistently moved 1-2 kids up every year. Don’t know about other clubs.

Uhhh I don’t know all about that as all the ECNL and ECRL teams will travel and play the same days and clubs. Going to be a lot easier for an ECNL team to “club pass” a player from ECRL then SCCL since they’ll literally play games against the same club on the same day.

Is it better to play on a winning ECRL team with a good coach or a last place ECNL team? Parents can probably find their kid a spot at another club on one of the lower rank ECNL teams but is that experience worth it?

I don’t want to travel to Florida to lose…I could stay in Georgia to do that…spend a whole lot less money. But some people are masochistic…

I think I would rather play on a top ECRL team with a chance to play or train some with the top ECNL team, then play on a weaker ECNL team that is going to lose most of its games. I assume ECRL will have a similar playoff system, so would want to be on a team capable of making the playoffs and get those extra games and travel experience.

Personally I am thrilled ECRL is here, even if it is the old SCCL teams.
First of all, we won't have a measly 10 game season like we did with SCCL. Looking at other regions, current ECRL teams play closer to 20 games with some as high as 24.
Second, ECRL is supposed to have actual showcases with teams from other areas, as opposed to playing the same teams over & over. Nothing against SSA as a club, but this year our U14 team played their SCCL team 6 or 7 times.
Third, having a child who currently has a desire to play in college, playing in ECRL instead of SCCL should be helpful. Who outside of Georgia, Alabama, and small parts of Tennessee & Florida even knew what SCCL was/is?
It still remains to be seen how the clubs manage players between ECNL & ECRL. Personally I am not expecting much, if anything, to change. At least I understand that up front so it won't be an unpleasant surprise.

Parents can probably find their kid a spot at another club on one of the lower rank ECNL teams but is that experience worth it? I really think it depends on what you want your child to get out of it. Playing at faster speeds and against better competition makes you better especially if your child is competative. Not to mention at the older age groups there will be more college coaches watching even if it is just to watch the other team. So if truely development is the goal then it may be good option to take the bad ECNL team over a good ERCL team.

Total scam to travel to play on a second team. It’s amazing how many parents buy into this. If your player can’t make an ECNL team there is absolutely no reason to travel out of the metro. The mess that’s become youth soccer in GA can only be blamed on parents and their willingness to buy into the big clubs BS.

Those college coaches will likely wait to watch the good team play another good team to assess any kid they are interested in. If you are on a really bad team that doesn't win much or at all I think you might be wasting your time unless your kid is truly getting better as a player and you just want to have the experience.

Talking apples/oranges with ECRL for boys/girls.
Girls has only 5 metro teams and the BUSA/ALFC team. Boys will have more travel. For the girls, any travel past that will likely be showcase or inter-divisional friendlies. The boys will likely also have more games than the girls, although on the girls side Carolinas conference should be relabeled to South Atlantic and the SC clubs should move into the Southeast with Atlanta clubs. Other than Birmingham it would be less travel than to the northern Virginia clubs. And Birmingham/SC clubs could play home-and-home in ATL in a weekend.
Speed of play and ball control is higher in ECNL than it was in SCCL. You're definitely better off on a losing ECNL team than a winning ECRL team...unless your ECRL team can beat said ECNL team. "Good team" is completely relative to the competition they're playing.
And by the way, plenty of 2nd team players want to play in college and get recruited.

Since ECRL is grouped with ECNL, curious about fees for high school ages. It seems there’s no break in pricing even though these kids will play high school in the spring. So wanted to ask those who have older kids who’ve previously played ECNL at u16 and up - is there still some training or even games in the spring? Or is there training over the summer when other levels don’t normally do training then?

It basically depends on what happens in the Winter for ECRL teams. ECNL typically goes until Presidents Day weekend in February then break for HS and some get back together in May for summer showcases/cups. Pricing for ECRL teams will be likely on par with ECNL teams, but it was roughly the same for ECNL/SCCL this year at AFU. Of course that doesn't include travel expenses.

First of all, you have two clubs, Tophat and Concorde, where the second team is in the best league (2 GA teams for Tophat and 2 ECNL teams for Concorde for both boys and girls). Second, playing the same 6 or 7 clubs 2 twice a year for 10 years gets old. The travel for ECRL girls is very reasonable. Southeast clubs, which are all in Atlanta except for Alabama FC, will play each other twice=10 games. So that is 1 trip to Birmingham 2.5 hours away. They will play each Carolinas team once=10 team games. One weekend in Charlotte and one weekend in Raleigh. 1 day trip to either Columbia or Greenville. For the boys, I would expect the ECRL travel to be similar except that the Carolinas will probably be replaced by teams in Tennessee.

Another BIG LIE I have heard from one club ...cough, UFA, cough... in particular is they are promoting their 2nd team as ECNL when it is actually ECNL-Regional (We, here on this forum, just refer to it as ECRL) For instance, I know a parent that was told "why go play for CF's 2nd ECNL team, when you can stay here and play for our ECNL 2nd team". There is a difference between the two and to me it's not right to intentionally mislead parents. One ECNL and one is ECRL (ENCL- Regional).

Hardly any kid playing soccer is in Georgia is going pro. Heck, hardly any ATL UTD academy kids go pro. AC was a top level YNT player that played for ATL UTD and now is what in the USL? So hardly anyone on here (or no one) has a kid playing at that level, so on the boys side you are at best hoping for a half baked college scholarship? And if they get it how many keep it all four years? Almost everyone is playing for fun whether they realize it or not and travel is a stupid for every level.

However, I don't understand how you make the leap that reasonable travel is not fun. Some of the best times that my kids have had in soccer is out of town travel with their soccer team. Overnight hotel stays is when they really get to know their teammates and to bond as team. Many friendships have been developed during these overnight hotel stays for out of town travel. Conversely, the teams that we have been on that don't have overnight travel stays typically are not as close and do not play as well as the teams that have bonded through overnight travel.

Ya, no. I didn't want to get into details or the extended version of what the parents were told, but it was not a standard club's "bad at communication" situation ( Morgan Freeman narration: "THEY ARE") ... it was an attempt to "spin" and intentionally leave out all of information. I'm not trying to place blame on this club in particular, they just happen to be the one I hear this particular incident about... and it could just be that coach or age group. Parents are left to education themselves on this crazy, backwards youth soccer world we all now live in because often times, as the OP alluded, the clubs might not have your best interests in mind. Thank god for sites like this, where you can glean enough information to learn the system and gain the knowledge it takes to navigate the stupid soccer landscape we all face. That's what originally brought me here.

I have multiple kids and have been in soccer for a long time now. I have over 10+ years of most weeknights and weekends being soccer related and overall I enjoy it. My kids think overnight travel is fun especially tournaments, and I obviously as any good parent tolerate it. What I really hate is having to go to Alabama or South Carolina or Tennessee for a soccer game because clubs get excluded from in whatever the latest league is. There is no reason to travel outside of Atlanta unless it is for a tournament/showcase event. It is a waste of money and time, and I would prefer to have my own free time and keep more of my money.

Other than day or even 1-night trips to neighboring states for regular season games (Alabama, Tennessee, South Carolina), overnight travel should be reserved for tournaments and showcases. Boys ECNL SE has done a good job eliminating Florida from the Southeast Conference. ECNL Southeast should be Georgia (AFU, CF x2, GSA, UFA), Alabama (ALFC) and South Carolina (CESA, SC United). There should be a crossover event with ECNL Florida 2 weekends a year (one in Florida, one in Georgia). That would be a reasonable 18-game season with one weekend out of town. Then there would be the required 2-3 showcases. ECNL FLorida should add another Tampa-area and another Miami-area club though.
But here I am thinking logically.
