I was watching this group also.. Very disappointed as this is he second year that new coaches are brought at the top two levels who have never seen the kids or have had very limited interactions with them. Leaving one coach(coach K) with a lot of input on who moves and who does not. So if coach K likes you,, then you move up or given a chance. If he does not like you, well then,, no upward movement. Did I hear correctly that they are now projecting 7 teams instead of 6? Will UFA still have a strong 2012B Pre-ECNL/Premier team? I saw a few (at least 2) UFA players from this age group at CF tryouts the first two nights.

Hi, Read my last post of my observation from page 4. they have good players, but have noticed some players which should not be there. Those two players, are they presently on gold, red or premier?

They are the best players on the current 2012B highest (Premier) team. I wonder if their top team roster is locked up after tonight.

UFA was disappointing. They took their top teams and pulled them aside; everyone else was just being babysat not really watching anything. They didn't even play the game of a real tryout for the first 30 minutes? Normally, clubs will have small sided scrimmages for the first 30 minutes or so with everyone mixed up and they will play several games. Then a water break. Then will take the previously identified (weeks ago, not at tryouts) and start grouping them together for small sided scrimmages and sending other kids to other fields for scrimmages. Then another water break. Then larger sided games with too many people in too little of a space. My favorite is 11 v. 11 on a 7 v 7 field. Night 2. Skip the small sided games and just scrimmage with too many people in too little of a space. Coaches mostly on phones. Night 3. Rinse and repeat. Coaches mostly on phones ^^^^ Thats the last minute deals being made for new players who want to come over and/or players that they offered spots to and haven’t committed so still trying to win them over.

I know I was frustrated with UFA after night 1 but I have to give them credit as it did get better. Again, last night there were players moving fields. Was it perfect, no. Do I feel like my son was looked at and will be placed on the correct team if we accept, yes.

There were a lot of shake-ups with the teams this year and a lot more coaches eyes and movement while refining the teams. There is probably a lot of higher level parents upset but think its good the teams are getting refreshed rather than just bringing in one or two new players. Don't know final results but heard a handfulof top team players getting cut and saw a few players move up at least two team levelsA Anyone at UFA notice a parent pulling their kid out of tryouts. I think the field number is 7 so it must have been a u14 kid. Wonder what that was about.

Mad they got cut from a higher team. Field 7 was the ECNL/RL/SCCL field for U14. I can understand.. lots of reactive emotions during tryouts.

I know of a parent telling a coach that if his child did not make an ECRL team he would make the kid quit soccer. Coach asked what about playing for fun (child is not even in high school yet btw) and dad said they may want to play for fun, but I don’t. Very concerned about soccer helping for college (not clear if he meant scholarships or just helping as an extracurricular activity). But yet he also said he does not want to travel much. Which makes no sense. I just think he was angry about making a lower team and wasn’t being rational.

Tryouts are a stressful time. It sucks so much because it’s your kid and soccer quickly became their identity.. as they try to please mom and/or dad. We reach deep into our pockets (and may even resent doing it) but we tell them it’s for them.
Then they keep playing even after they don’t love it anymore because they still want to please mom and/or dad. Or teammates.
Make sure your kid knows that playing soccer is voluntary.

Great point Rifle. It has to be about the kid. If you make it about yourself the kid's soccer years will be short lived.

UFA Tryout Rosters Posted: I don't remember them doing this in years prior. Not sure what to think. It feels like the Hollywood version of tryouts where the team is posted in the school hallway, and everyone gathers around. Is this the way they are announcing to parents? forsyth.unitedfa.org/rosters-forsyth

2 more seasons and this nonsense is done for us. Mine went from team captain to getting cut, so we've moved to Concorde (and honestly quite happy about it).

That email from UFA is kind of crazy, considering the crapfest that Elite 64 is. UFA is going to have to do a lot more than provide standings. My kid could lose every match this upcoming season, and she would stay at AFU a) because her team is phenomenal (on and off the field) and b) I will never have to worry about any of the AFU coaches sending out an email like that. Yikes.

Thanks! my son is younger, will be a u12 next year and a keeper. I'm not sure if that changes anything as it seems everyone always needs keepers. It depends on how far down you are willing to fall down the depth chart. At U12, most teams probably still only have one keeper; it’s not until ECNL age that teams will take two keepers. Although not common, older age group teams will sometimes have one keeper if there isn’t a second keeper very close to skill level as the starter. Therefore, you may have little chance of making the top team bc that position is already filled.

In response to the keeper question, kids team only had one keeper. Kid played at a Big 5 in Atlanta was on their top team, was ranked top in southeast and top 5 nationally. I think most do this.
