I believe scoreboard simply ranks by record. Max Preps at least tries to use a strength of schedule component. Early season thought the strength of schedule doesn't mean as much as it does once region games are being played. Pretty sure coaches actually vote on the scoreboard rankings.

That would be cool if they are, but other than reputation not sure how much they are paying attention to teams not on the schedule. Guess it really doesn't matter anyway as playoff seedings are already set based on which region you are in what place your finish in.

There are some big games tonight featureing ranked teams
1. Harrison(#1) AT Hillgrove(#9) @ 8pm. - These 2 teams are bitter rivals. Harrison will be missing some players due to GA Champions League. Should be fun to watch
2. 7A vs 4A, West Forsyth(#3) vs Westminster(#1 in 4A). Both teams are undefeated on the year. Should be a great game.
3. North Gwinnett(#5) vs Norcross(#5) - I dont know much about the two teams but both are undefeated in region and the winner will likely determine region championship

Guess it really doesn't matter anyway as playoff seedings are already set based on which region you are in what place your finish in. Hey, y'all! I had to come check things out when gasoccerforum.com showed up in our GoogleAnalytics! Love seeing the conversation in here and I'm impressed with how this group seems to be really plugged into high school soccer (especially around my old stomping grounds in south Forsyth County)! Wanted to just drop a quick word of appreciation and offer a little extra info on the Scorbord rankings. You're correct, fanatic21, that the rankings are 100% the result of coaches votes each week. We've got over 210 current, active head coaches involved in the Georgia Coaches Polls this season! And you're also correct, surgesoccer, that early on it is a crapshoot that probably does lean heavy on reputation. I think we're starting to "hit our stride" (Week 4/5) with enough games in the books to have a good sense of where things stand. The Scorbord platform does make it easy for each Ranking Committee Member to check out the team's "resume" as they're adding or reordering teams in their ballot but until that resume is filled in, it does lean a bit on reputation. I'm just glad that the kids and coaches hard work on the field is generating good, fun conversation and I'm humbled that Scorbord helps facilitate that just a bit with the site and the Coaches Poll Rankings! Y'all are literally part of what I described in this article! Also, this was eye opening to realize that it is not 100% clear that the rankings are actually coaches poll rankings, not just some dude at a computer. So thank you for that! All the best,

Although, candidly, they're usually mostly focused on getting the most out of their own team and the day-to-day demands of managing it while also running a classroom.

Have any of y'all seen Carly Bramwell play for South Forsyth High School? She is a 10th grader but she made the all-state team last year as a freshman. I'd highly recommend going to a South Forsyth game if you have the opportunity if you are looking to scout, she's #18.

Her club team scores a lot of goals and she’s a big reason why.

My sense was that both teams have weaknesses but could be great on any given day. Ref had his hands full and was a little inconsistent, which led to a lot of parents/coaches yelling, but the girls on both sides played hard start to finish.

All the best, Not to discount coaches' opinions but there may be some glad-handing going on when ranking teams as well. I don't know if strength of schedule is coming into play in the polling - you have ranked teams with good looking records but you look at their schedule and they aren't playing anyone. If you're beating teams with losing records and losing to the few you've played that have winning records, then how good are you really?? But hey, you've got a winning record. There isn't a fool-proof method for ranking these HS programs so ScorBord is probably the best at what's out there.

There isn't a fool-proof method for ranking these HS programs so ScorBord is probably the best at what's out there. Thank you for that! I'll relay to the Ranking Committees (Coaches) your vote of confidence! They'll love that! I'll let you know that we try to reiterate as often as possible that the Ranking Committee Members need to dig in a little further than the W-L record and our Ranking Committee Dashboard makes it easy for them to do that! It's super lazy to live by the "you are what your record says you are" mantra and we're trying to inspire the voting members to go beyond that. The beautiful part about having a statistically significant voting group is that glad-handing or favoritism gets absorbed and its impact is more or less mitigated when you have enough votes. Also, we have a Coach serving as the Ranking Committee Chairperson for each Poll who has the responsibility of reviewing the ballots and, if one is found to be "way out-of-line", they can return it to the voter for adjustment. (This is only used for the insane cases like voting your whole region 1-8 or all zero-win teams in the Top 10). So far the setup has done pretty well and the coaches and chairs have operated with pretty good integrity and fairness, in my opinion! And just like you mentioned, I think it's important for everyone to keep in mind that the rankings are indeed the results of coaches collective opinions. Ultimately it's to give 'em something to talk about. BTW, I've got some future ideas for coming up with a strength of schedule slash strength of record in a way that would be pretty cool (and would still rely on coaches input, of course!)

What happened in Oklahoma? Did westminster travel with their full squad? Unfortunately, I think Westminster came back with a number of injuries. This is true. They won the first game but got banged up. After a close second game (which they lost 2-1 after an unlucky own goal and a banger free kick from 40 yards away), reserves played a great deal in game 3. Wouldn't read too much into results from Game 2 and 3.

Buford is always solid because they are Buford. Saw one half of the Jefferson/Loganville game and Jefferson is solid from the midfield to the GK who made several “not so routine” saves. They can fly at the top as well. Both teams are scoring machines and given up a combined 3 goals. MaxPreps has Jefferson with the higher strength of schedule. Will it be televised?

I'd highly recommend going to a South Forsyth game if you have the opportunity if you are looking to scout, she's #18. For whatever reason, South just cannot seem to get over the hump in their region. After a good start to the season, they have proceeded to lose every region game this year. In addition to Bramwell, they have two college commits in their midfield. Unlike previous years, they did play Central, Lambert and Denmark very tough, and lost what most would consider heartbreakers. They lost to Central in PKs and gave up the game winner against Lambert off a corner in the final 30 seconds. West is obviously very good this year, so that loss is excusable. Then they finished it off last night by getting shut out by Milton. They just can't seem to get that signature win in or out of region play. It has been this way for them for a while now.
