As some0one who left AFU after the NL vs SCCL-P fiasco last year (it's been explained in other posts so won't bore you here), some may think I'm about to dog on MM. But he is an excellent coach. He took over the ECNL team from VH and they became better pretty quickly. Very very demanding and hardcore. I may be wrong in my memory but I believe he is from Bosnia (somewhere in eastern europe so he grew up in war torn circumstances and I think that carries over to his mentality). If circumstances had turned out differently I would have loved for him to have coached my daughter. For older girls Martelli is one of the best I know. His knowledge of the game is so vast. He's to the point where he gets his team, and once they get the system figured out, he trusts them to get the job done. This is the guy to go to to help your daughter get a scholarship, as he is soooooo well connected around the country from his coaching days at Army, Ohio State, Ga State and GGC. I was at lunch with him one day when he received a phone call from an Ivy League coach who agreed to take one of his females players. Obviously Ivy League does not offer athletic scholarships but the package they put together for this young lady was only going to cost her about $4,000 a year to go there. I'm not sure how much it costs to go to this school but I'd assume it's north of $65K a year? My kid no longer goes to AFU but he still gives her advice on soccer issues and future recruiting matters even though she will only be a 9th grader this fall. Of course, Nadine is fantastic. If you have a younger child in Academy (and they can handle her intensity) I advise you get private training with her. She's the only coach who ever made my daughter cry at a private when she was 9 I personally watched her take an AFU ECNL team (at the time I want to say it was maybe U16 but I could be wrong, and with 10 players for the last 80 minutes of the game, beat GSA 2-0!!! It was one of those days where so many were out with injuries, 4-5 had quit who candle her intensity, and a player got red carded early. Her girls were simple far superior in their conditioning. I've seen many quit because of her but for those who get through a year with her, NO coach is loved by her girls more than Nadine is. Hugo is a fantastic private trainer. he privates are so game related and realistic and very very very hard to get through if you are not conditioned. Excellent trainer in that aspect. As far as a game day coach, I think you can do better but as a side trainer, awesome! He will make your kid more skilled. My only memory of him as a coach was he coached my daughter's SUPER Y team one summer. It seems he was very quiet and didn't say much but that doesn't mean he isn't a good coach, I just don't remember anything standing out but that was 3 years ago I believe. But I've heard others say the same thing. I'm not familiar enough with the others to offer anything but rambling. Hope this helps a little!!!! Agree with the consensus on the GSA ECNL coaches. That is STRONG. PS: After reading what Futsal Gawdess said I have to go back and edit my post. How could I forget Brad? Yes, he is FANTASTIC. He coached my younger daughter one year (she switched to volleyball later), but he is a great communicator and tough yet very fair. There is a younger coach there who many may not know yet but she is rising through the ranks. Coach Lucy Dewitt. My youngest had her at U10 (she was playing up) her very first year as a coach. Let me tell you, for such a young age group , I've never seen a young coach stand up for her girls when she perceived they were fouled badly or the refs made the wrong call. From what I've heard, she is slowing moving up to the older girls. I may be 100% off my rocker here, but I'm going to predict that she will be a fantastic girls coach in the Select divisions really soon. She treats a saturday game vs XYZ as though it's the knockout stage in the World Cup:) But she took the 2nd level U10 team we had and they were whipping people. These were all kids who came from rec the previous year. They could work it out of the back very well for a 2nd team U10 age group! Better than some U13 teams can! I won't dog some of the ones there as I'm keeping this post positive:) But there are two particular dudes over there if you happen to get..................................run to your car and get out quickly!!!!

More surprisingly, she has an SCCL team and SCCL-P1 also. Don't know how she is going to swing that (even from a practice perspective there's only 8 sessions available a week and 2 of those teams will definitely take up 6 of the sessions (perhaps SCCL-P will only practice twice a week?). Some odd logistical choices for AFU for gamedays, other coaches on ECNL, SCCL and SCCL-P teams.
Looks like Paul Young moved on.

I’m surprised she only has one ecnl team. Sadly, last year she had two teams, but under pressure from a minority, yet very vocal set of parents we have what we have. Nadine is a players coach but also a parents coach if you want the best for your child. If you want to be the best version of yourself, you will get there with her. She will sit with you and determine your goals and she's off to the races ensuring you meet and exceed those goals. Will it be easy, usually anything worthy isn't but she will push you. Most importantly, she's also fair. To some parents, your daughter not cutting it and being called out or benched is a wee bit 'mean' She's so busy with coaching, being an educator and her foundation, that a group of players who wanted her to train them, agreed to meet before dawn multiple times a week to train since that was the only time available. For the record, they are all playing D1 in college now. The mark of a coach is where their players end up. In addition to players in major D1 conferences, she's also the secret weapon behind the only AU Home Grown to have ever scored in the MLS...

Whoa yeah I just noticed Paul Young isn’t on the AFU list. Not sure how the politics at AFU work but from what I saw he was a great coach. Any idea of where he went? Another club had to snag him and give him a promotion.

I don't think there was anything political there. He was the 04G SCCL-P coach and the girls liked him. He was only coaching one team, maybe he decided on time off or moved elsewhere??

I hope that they will post the girls today as well as the academy/select coaches. I could see the girls being posted today but academy/select taking another day or two as that is what happened last year (actually was more than a week between the DA coaches announcement and the select/academy announcement).

AFC announced he was taking full time position at Rheinhardt. He also communicated that to his teams. So I would not assume he’s not coaching there as well. He had a lot of success with the 06 girls at AFC. Very competitive group. He also ran the academy girls program.
