So accepted teams are starting to be released on GA Soccer, anyone taking bets on whether fall brackets will actually be released this Friday, Jul 25, like website says?

That's the release date to the club not to the public. They'll be finalized by July 31 and brackets/schedules released to clubs August 1. Last year, GA soccer held pretty true to those dates- the dates the public will see those schedules on the website is always if-y but they did a good job last year of getting them all out a couple of weeks before Labor Day with games starting the Saturday after Labor Day for most teams

In the Spring at U13 all the Classic divisions had 14 teams, made rain out reschedules real fun! Yes Macon and Warner Robins are trying the alliance again.

Thanks coffeedude - interesting mix in the B bracket. A little surprised that the DDY team was left out. C bracket might be a little top heavy with DDY, Tophat, and the SSA South squad.

In Athena A, 13 matches is a lot considering there are only about 11 or 12 weekends between Labor Day and T-giving, considering rainouts. Looking at some of the player movement between these teams, I can see several struggling in the Fall.

Regarding placement, that's the nature of U13 - it's hit or miss in the fall - placement varies from how teams did in tournaments/Academy Cup and how well the club's presented the case for each level. That doesn't always take into account player movement so it's a crap shoot. By spring, things start to shake out - by Fall of U14 - you are where you should be - although you'll see a lot of player movement between U13 and U14 because of this, too. You are correct -that is a lot of games considering the time frame is Labor Day through just before Thanksgiving - and factor in some schools have a week break in September (Cobb and Cherokee) - then there's the weather. Expect some make up games mid week by late October - or if it involves a distance to travel - you could end up with a DNP (did not play) and no additional points. Interesting that again, GA Soccer went with a set Athena A and a set Athena B at U13 again - lumping CD and EF together. When my daughter was U13 - it was a set Athena A, a B/C East and West and a D/E East and West and an Athena F in Fall. I guess they figured C and D teams were more closely aligned than B and C teams? With 14 teams in Athena A - I can see the bottom four dropping to B and only two coming up from B leaving 12 in Athena A. In Athena B - I can see at least four dropping and the top three or even four from Athena C/D shooting up top B - case in point, Roswell U13's last year - placed in C/d - finished second but moved up to B and then won that bracket and should be A this year. Example of a good team getting hosed in placement - happens every year -both ways - there will be teams in every bracket that obviously were overplaced and you'll see it in their performance. Like I said - crap shoot! |

Don't forget that this year there is the added goal of R3PL in the Spring for some of these U13 Athena A teams.

Right, so seems unlikely they could automatically drop 4 teams unless those 4 really deserved to be dropped and 4 from B really deserved to be promoted. Would be curious to hear who you think might struggle. At this age, where physical development between athletes has yet to even out, it might only take a few player additions to really improve your team, or, alternatively, a few key player losses to cause serious problems. |

Of course, I could be completely wrong  |

Of course, I could be completely wrong Sounds as good as any other predictions! Does CF Elite take CF North players at this point? If so, one might wonder about CF North. I also wonder whether Tophat Navy will be able to compete with top teams. They cannot use Gold players to supplement periodically. Macon has a hard time scoring against better teams. They seem to keep numbers behind the ball. Norcross also needs to be able to score; they don't get blown out and don't give up a lot of goals generally, but if you can't score you can't win! CFC I might also put in the 'could struggle' category. Does anybody know what happens to Storm? For select soccer do they play in South Carolina instead of Georgia? |

From my understanding, CF Elite took 5 from North Black, 3 from Central Black, a couple of U13 play-ups from last year stayed in U13 and the rest were recruited in from other clubs. CF North will still be strong because the previous 2nd team there was a top 15 team at U12 and most of them stayed, joining with the remaining North Black players who didn't make Elite. Can't TH Navy still borrow from Gold since they are both at the same level? You can't play down in Select but you can play for another Athena A team as long as you don't play twice in one day, right?

stevieg: A team cannot use players from another one of their own teams that is in the same level. There was a vote a couple of years back to change this and it did not pass. TH has a history of using Gold players at U12 to prop up their Navy teams results so that both teams get Athena A. Then they get to Athena A and have to go with only Navy players and most times wind up getting relegated down to Athena B after the first season.

DDY tends to lose players after U12 especially on the girls side. It wouldn't surprise me if the stronger players from that team moved on. Regarding TH club passing between their Gold and Navy teams, you can only club pass to a higher competitive level (unless you're club passing up an age level - then you can club pass to a team at the same or higher competitive level). |

Does anybody know what happens to Storm? For select soccer do they play in South Carolina instead of Georgia? Storm is still around - their U15 girls team is now RPL. For this current U13 group, maybe they didn't have a strong team for Athena A or B - or didn't lobby for it. That club is pretty consistently strong - if the 13's are placed too low, they will perform well and move up. |

Just my two cents - I think U13 is way too young for RPL. These rae 12 year olds 'supposedly' on 11v11 fields for the first time (well,smaller clubs anyway). BUT - this is how youth soccer is now - rush to get the on the bigger fields at U12 - now a rush to get them into elite travel leagues at U13. I've always been of the mindset that developing the small sided skills early and often will ultimately make a better player when they are older. Going 11v11 too early is how we end up with the 'BOOM' ball of kicking the beejeezus out of it from the back and running it down up top praying your forward is fast enough to score. It's just not good soccer.
OK - off my soapbox and chiming in with the rest of the requests - toss me U15 girls brackets when you get 'em! Gracias!!
