We should stick to youth soccer arguments about who the better 05 girls team is. These are such useless conversations to have on the internet because nobody ever says "Oh you've changed my mind, thanks for setting me straight" and only serve to stir the pot and piss people off. I deleted my rant because quite frankly it's just not worth it here. Had to bold the irony.. because I find humor in weird places. IMO we can learn through dialogue in surprising places. I’ve had my eyes opened many times on discussions over the internet.

Obviously (or not I guess) my statement was tongue in cheek, because they are quite opposite of importance but with the world going to shizat all around us, it would be nice to get away from it somewhere. This isn't the place I guess.

I could reverse your question and say why aren’t you supporting the military and those who have fought and died for this country? Because that was never what the protests were about and anyone who says otherwise is being intellectually dishonest.
Because the anthem DOES NOT equate to "supporting the troops" and never has.
The anthem being tied to military support started when they paid millions to sports leagues to use it as a recruiting tool - pushing for the anthem to be a big show with flyovers and honor guards and flags.
NFL players weren't even required to be on the field during the anthem AT ALL until 2009, so please leave the revisionist history out of this.
Perhaps remembering back to the treatment of Tommie Smith and John Carlos - and realizing that 50 years later and we're still doing the same things.
I will say this to you and others that are saying what is facts about what the anthem means and kneeling means. Unfortunately the problem is too often people claim their opinions, perceptions, and views as fact and therefore say others have a wrong opinion, perception, and view and the person isn’t entitled to it. So to the comment of saying what the anthem DOES NOT equate to means that since you don’t perceive it that way that no one else is allowed to because your perception is fact. If someone was brought up going to games and told by their dad that you “take off your hat, stand up straight, don’t talk, look at the flag, and show your respect“ how is that not a valid reason for that person to believe they are being disrespectful if they do otherwise? Obviously it doesn’t equate to that for you, which is fine, but can’t you see how it could to that person with that background? I was very intentional in my statement to never say what I thought was true, I simply stated the views and opinions I have heard from both sides of the argument, and am willing to give validity to both perspectives based on different backgrounds and life experiences. I never said taking a knee in protest was intended to be about the military, I in fact tried to say it wasn’t. I simply said that standing means something to many Americans, whether you or I think it should or not, and kneeling now means something to many Americans, whether you or I think it should or not. I simply said that if we want unity, which unfortunately I think most now place as secondary importance to winning the argument, finding a way to allow the two symbolic acts to be cohesive instead of divisive and mutually exclusive of each other would be brilliant.

Purely understand the rights and freedoms each individual has to speak and express themselves, however, just like anything else, it comes with consequences (right or wrong). Individual freedom of expressions (silent protesting) within a team environment causes unnecessary distractions among team chemistry and whomever is overseeing the team and the event.
I and my family were raised to respect the flag, respect the moment of silence and respect the ppl involved in the presentation of the American flag.. IF and when a wounded warrior, veteran or whoever around me can stand or stay still due to limitations so will we..
My family knows, if I see them Disrespecting this moment of silence by individual choice or directed by team authority, The conversation afterwards will be one way and not so nice.
My spin on this topic is simple, IF you choose to exercise your individual freedoms, do it on your free time and away team organization and business events.
IF the protest is about injustices, police brutally, whatever, protest at where these event occur like courthouses, jails, city hall vice a sporting environment. IF and when the protests occurs, follow up your protest with real support and Hands on action that produces a solution/change for good.
To the ones that have experienced being handed a tri folded America flag after it was draped across their loved ones coffin, your sacrifice won’t be forgotten along with all the others that continue to fight for the freedoms we enjoy today, Thank you and we all can do better.

My point is we do indeed have rights to do whatever we want unless it infringes on other people's rights. The fact that most people forget is those rights are not always consequence free. I disagree with the whole premise that the USSF is taking advantage of anyone nor the NFL or any other sports organization. The USSF pays a higher % to women than to men, and the whole equal pay arguments was bull which is why the courts threw it out. The women aren't getting taken advantage of, and if they think they are then they should quit the team. On the NFL, these people enter into contracts most worth millions upon millions of dollars and agree to the stipulations of that contract and rules. I enter into a contract with my employer, and sign that I will follow their terms of employment which includes limitation of free speech sometimes. If I break those rules I can be sanctioned or have my employment terminated. The truth is Kaep in my opinion is a fraud. He knew he was about to be benched permanently as a back up only, and made a statement to try to boost his image in some virtue signaling move. He walked away from $6 million +, so no one fired him. He could have sat the bench and made $6 million. He decided not to. I don't feel bad for him. I think he is fake. Just my opinion. No other team will give him a look at this point because his talent isn't more than a backup QB in the league at this point not to mention the media spectacle no team wants at this point. Well it’s good to know you know absolutely nothing about football, the Nfl and how good a QB actually is with those comments. Well Considering that I have been Top 3 in my Fantasy Football league year in and year out since I can remember, I would say that my knowledge of the NFL is quite good. Facts: 1) Kaep was in the process of getting benched in SF and would have sat there the rest of his career or until he was traded. 2) He didn't get fired. He walked away from millions. He did a publicity stunt in my opinion to bring attention. I have seen many of the things he has said (never votes, etc...). 3) He is not really interested in playing football again. NFL bent over backwards to set up a scouting practice just for him with almost every team sending a scout, and because it was a strict no media scouting session at Georgia Tech, he reneged on it and went to some high school in Clayton County to do it instead and then complained that only a handful of scouts showed up after he moved it so that media would be allowed into his grandstanding show. To me that shows me it isn't about getting a job to play, its about the media coverage and his ego. 4) Fact he would not be more than a backup keeper in the league no matter where he went. We can disagree on this, but it is truth and fact. He just isn't that good of a QB. I'm not saying there are not other QB's in the league worse or similar to him, but then again they don't rock the boat. Teams and owners don't want that whirlwind by hiring him at this point.

I will apologize about a long response in advance and will say that I am trying to calm myself down as I write this in order to not do too much rambling out of anger...
By several of these responses you can tell we are in Georgia. I think most on here are missing the point of the protest and the why taking a knee is important. Firstly, the kneeling has been explained many times that it has nothing to do with the flag or the military. Many of the athletes who are choosing to kneel have said many times that they are proud to live in America. But just because America is overall a good place to live does not mean it is good in all areas. These athletes are using their platform to speak about injustices that are widespread across this country and the world. I understand many of you have not experienced them and some might not even think they exist anymore but they do. The kneeling has started the conversations and brought awareness to those who don't have first hand experiences and also allows those who have to act in unity. It is the peacefully stance against what has happened against THOUSANDS of people of color at the hands of the police. The video tapped killings and brutalization of black men and women you are seeing now aren't the only ones happening now, they aren't the first, nor will they be the last but hopefully one day these types of protests will help to make a change. I personally wish the athletes did more. I wish none of them would step on the field until widespread change to laws in regards to policing, mass incarceration, public education, access to capital, etc. were changed. The kneeling is a baby step in all of this that starts the conversation on a platform where those athletes hold some power and have visibility. None of them are fake, doing this for publicity, or because it is a fad, it means something to so many people.
I also will say how disappointed I am in those who think people are too sensitive and are turning everything into a racial situation when it is not. What many of you fail to understand or maybe it is more a lack of admittance is that many of these situations are in fact sparked by race. That doesn't mean the person doing the offense sits at home and says I hate black people, but from society they have been taught that the value of life is not equal among all people and that they should fear them subconsciously hence the interactions are not the same. So, yes most times these situations are motivated by race whether intentional or not. There is tons of data that support the over-criminalization of black men from the time they are children throughout their adulthood. It goes all the way to schools and how punishments are handed out or placements into classes. My daughter goes and went to a school where she was one of a few black kids there and we were warned by those who had already been there to keep an eye on where they placed her in classes and without going into detail some of the placement was very blatantly biased. And if you truly look at the data on punishments they are nowhere near equal by race. There is widespread systemic racism in this country that needs to be addressed. Police brutality is just a small fraction of it.
Regardless of what you think about the kneeling happening at sporting events it is a protest against a reality that many people face daily. The experiences of everyone on this board are not the same let alone the entire US. I've had numerous bad experiences that could have turned out much worse with police, and all of the action they took against me were not legal. I know I do not trust or feel comfortable around the police because of my experiences and gladly support the protests of kneeling.
So long answer short, yes, athletes regardless if the federal government or anyone else is paying them to play or if they are representing the US in competitions should be able to protest by taking a knee against police brutality. My personal opinion is you can't be upset about athletes taking a knee during the anthem and also be upset about the police officer kneeling on George Floyd's neck and murdering him. One is in order to protest (and hopefully one day prevent) the other.

MLS matches, don't care a lick. They should play the national anthem of every starter and players should be able to kneel through all of it. Everyone in the stadium should kneel during Venezuela anthem.
USSF matches...I'd rather they don't, but in the end don't care anymore, probably won't be watching or supporting USSF any more. Too much controversy within USSF, wake me up when there isn't controversy and they are simply going to play wearing the United States's colors.

When one player kneels to protest police brutality, can another make some sort of anti-abortion sign? And another do something urging strict enforcement of immigration law? Another express support for the 2nd Amendment? Another give thanks to the police? Another for traditional marriage? Another to save the rain forests? Ban fracking? Praise the military? Protest immunizations? Require immunizations?

The issue in most of the responses you are telling the other side why they are wrong and you are right and how they won’t listen to you while you are not listening to them. Those that do and will stand = in their valid opinion based on their background and upbringing would find it disrespectful to do otherwise. A very valid opinion based on their background that some of you are unwilling to accept because you are being closed minded to perspectives different from your own.
Those that do and will kneel = in their valid opinion based on their background and upbringing believe it is not disrespectful and can bring necessary attention to an issue. A very valid opinion that some of you are unwilling to accept because you are being closed minded to perspectives different from your own.
The truth that remains, most people are unwilling to listen to or accept other perspectives that are different from their own, all the while talking about how diverse and open minded their view is......

I used to be of the opinion that you should not kneel while representing the US. It never bothered me that Rapinoe did it for Seattle but it did when representing the US for the reasons that were mentioned by a few others, mainly trying to keep up appearances of unity when facing other nations. However I have changed my view to see just how far we still have to go as a nation not just on this issue of racial equality and police brutality, but also on many other issues as well. As a nation we have been getting less and less unified over time. There is more discord between political parties, racial groups, immigration status, religion, gun rights, women's rights, LGBTQ rights and so on. Each side often fails to see the points the other side makes. There are many reasons why we have become a nation more divided, but some of it is the anonymous posting on sites like this. We should all learn a little more empathy for our fellow humans whether white or black, male or female or other, gay or straight, religious or not, gun owner, etc. We are all people who have families and want to be safe, healthy and happy.

And kneeling during the national anthem during a Team USA match is going to do wonders for ‘unity’ ??
Someone else said it was their opinion that you couldn’t be offended by kneeling while also being offended about police brutality. I bet there is a sizable chunk of folks who feel exactly that. *just an opinion* :-)

We should all learn a little more empathy for our fellow humans whether white or black, male or female or other, gay or straight, religious or not, gun owner, etc. We are all people who have families and want to be safe, healthy and happy. I agree but there are some movements that use their side or position to destroy the other side because they do not feel the other side is PC enough to exist. I think if everyone left each other alone and quit trying to force their ways upon other groups we would all be in a better spot. There is only one side that has a very activist agenda and it encompasses about 90% of the groups you listed above. For example I don't know why the LGBTQ movement can't get whatever rights they want that equals them to heterosexual people while also not picking on the Christian florist or cake maker because of his/her religious beliefs feels like they can not make a cake or floral arrangements for your wedding but he will make you any thing else you want and sell you anything else you want. Its when one side pushes in your face items to the other for the express purpose of destroying the other side is when division happens. That particular example was prophesied by many pundits just to be told by LGBTQ people and the media that they were crazy and that would never happen, but it did. This is coming from me, someone that is a Christian but has gay/lesbian relatives and have gone to their weddings and celebrated their happiness and love them no less than anyone else in my family. In that same respect they will now go after Christian affiliated schools that fire or won't hire a gay or trans person because of their religious convictions, and we will see how that works as well. Systematically some groups in this country try to tear down other groups instead of just coexisting and leaving each other alone. There is one side that is very litigious. That is just one example of many that the more "liberal" (for lack of a better word) groups that divides the country. If you don't feel the way they do then you are a racist, bigot, homophobic, etc.... There are a lot of silent people in this country that have done nothing wrong more than live their life who are tired of being called those things when they know in their heart of hearts they are not. Ultimately this identity politics games started a long time ago by Democrats is what has divided this country. Our current President is the result of people being tired of the identity politics and name calling game and voted for someone that would push back and not keep silent anymore. Granted I think he might have gone a little overboard with it, but it is what it is. Just my opinion. I know opinions vary.

Yep! Barely 30 years since Forsyth was strictly a sundown county. Things rarely change. That's astoundingly ignorant and prejudicial. Forsyth has been one of the fastest growing counties in the country for years. The demographics have changed drastically. Many schools are minority-majority. But hey, don't let facts get in the way of what your "feelings" tell you is true.

Would some please detail the rights that LGBTQ people want that they don't already have? It isn't about rights at this point. You know this just as well as I do. It is about the destruction of any Christian business, school, church till they do not exist anymore. The funny thing is they don't touch the Mosques. They don't talk about how completely backwards those of the Islamic faith are about LGBTQ people to the point of doing thing Christians wouldn't even dream of thinking of doing. It is not the "in" or "politically correct" thing to go after Muslims, so they just attack and destroy Christians instead. As I said before live and let live. Don't try to destroy a side you disagree with just because they disagree with you.

Would some please detail the rights that LGBTQ people want that they don't already have? Well - the SCOTUS just decided YESTERDAY that they can't be fired from a job simply for being gay - so there's that.
Quite simply - they are not a protected class under Title VII. So like the aforementioned bakery case where they were 'picking on the poor christians'.. the issue there is that the baker can't deny a customer because they're black/hispanic/female/jewish (race/religion/sex are protected classes).. but they can because they're gay.
So.. All animals are equal, but some animals are more equal than others.

I disagree. I am Christian and have not lobbied against any gay rights. I think the vast majority of Christians aren't against gay rights. What they are against is being forced as a Christian Business, School, Church to perform services or other things for those marriages when it goes against their religious beliefs. A church shouldn't be forced to marry a gay couple. A florist or cake maker should not be forced to make something for the wedding. Now let me distinguish that doesn't mean the business or church has the right to refuse attendance at their church from gay people or from selling anything else to those gay people as long as it is not expressly something that is against the person's religious convictions. So if a gay person walks in and just wants a normal cake or floral arrangement, the business has no right to deny that as that would not be against any religious convictions of the business.

Because I have a counter opinion to the virtue signaling crap in this thread now it is out of hand because you don't agree with me? So lets lock it down. If it was ok for all the other crap on this post, then my comments are just as relevant as yours or anyone elses. Don't assume that I was referring to you. I wasn't. I don't agree with you, but you were not the one that I felt was taking the direction of this thread out of hand. I am all for other opinions. In fact, unlike many folks, my opinion on topics can be changed with a well-informed opinion or argument. In fact I have changed my opinion on this topic as I mentioned before. I am an open-minded individual.

The bakery case pitted two fundamental rights: equality and religious / individual freedom. The "fair" result is obvious to most: equality wins for off-the-self items, while freedom wins for custom work. A christian baker must sell his spec cakes to whomever comes in, be they straight or gay or white or black or devil worshippers. But he cannot be forced to create a custom "Satan Rules!" cake, even though religion is a protected class.

www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/discriminationThis is exactly what they're fighting against. Ask your gay/lesbian/non-white friends why they think they're being discriminated against and possibly you'll learn something. Then when someone says Happy Holidays instead of Merry Christmas try to remember All Holidays Matter(tongue firmly in cheek) and it's not a war against your faith or religion because another person doesn't believe the same things you do. Business can serve someone and treat them right and it's ok if they do not personally believe in what they're doing.

Yep and the discrimination aspect is overblown and a strawman when you are talking about the LGBTQ community. They amplify the few here and there issues and make it sound like they are the norm. I don't know of a single business that discriminates against the LGBTQ community, not even the whipping boy for the LGBTQ movement Chickfila that has employees and managers that are gay and treats everyone that enters their doors as equal as do 99% of all businesses. At this point they have every right that a heterosexual has in every way. Any going after Christian businesses at this point is just a ploy to destroy those businesses. Period. There really isn't a leg for them to stand on at this point as the ones they protest don't even discriminate. There are great LGBTQ people and I know and am even related to a few. Most don't act like this. The problem is the movement like all movements have been hijacked by radicals. Just like BLM leadership are full of radicals as well. Those radicals give movements bad names, just as the radicals in the Christian faith gave Christians a bad name or Islamic Terrorists give all Muslims a bad name. The people in these movements need to police their own to keep the radicals from defining them and thus making them lose support.
