fall $$$ trips only ^ CESA ^ HOUSTON ^ USA ^ NCFC ^ DISNEY ^ IMG ^ SILVERLAKES ^ DALLAS ^ SHOWCASES X 2 lossa trips $$$$$$ ..and how is this different than DA last year? Well they can go to more tournaments so I think that is better. But how different is that from the ECNL teams? All but concorde went to CESA. All will go to a few showcases (Silverlakes is a showcase BTW soccergurl). All will travel to Florida (some only once some twice but pre-Covid was 3 times). If the ECNL teams don't go to Disney that is a new thing because when my kid was U13/14 all of the ECNL teams went. Plus are you sure that you have that correct that those are all in the fall? My kid is older but that seems like there are some duplicates.

We have not been informed of the cancelation of either for our team despite the dead perios extension. We WERE told previously not to book flights for Silverlakes due to the unknowns at that time. We have not been told that we are not going yet though. I also don't know why we would not go to NCFC anyway. All of the kids just want to play.

I am just discussing GA Southeast. Disclaimer: I dont fault any parent for looking for the right club or team for their child. We have friends and ex teammates all over the city. One of the biggest issues in Atlanta Soccer is parents of younger players dont talk with parents on the older teams... The parents of older players are full of great advice and perspective. Almost every older team at TH was once the 08 team dominating most of the competition at u12 or u13 (See 04 team, See 03 team, See 07 team before leaving)... If they are trully talented they would also dominate ECNL if the hearsay regarding last years' results are true (I could be wrong). Here is what the TH 08 team should know: 1. Enjoy the journey! Enjoy the journey! We are actually playing soccer games in a pandemic. 2. You have time on your side. The recruiting rules are in your favor. Back even just 2 years ago girls could have recruiting conversations and commit at u13 or u14. That is not the case anymore. KNOW the recruiting rules so that you can decipher the crap! 2. Great Teams filled with great players attract recruiters. Not leagues. If oneone wants proof, I can get it to them. I know girls on ECNL teams that are not being recruited. I know girls on non ECNL teams that have signed with SEC teams. 3. Great skills will travel. Meaning if your daughter is a great player she can probably make the top team at most other clubs whenever you all are ready to do so. You dont have to rush. 4. All of Atlanta was once all under one league (GA Soccer). Unfortunately or fortunately that led to the rise of ECNL

NCFC is open to all teams. Disney is open to all teams if TH is going there... Any other showcases have not be announced due to dead period.

I feel like 6th, 7th and 8th grade (frankly even 9th grade) parents are always in a rush and in a panic to be in the "best" league on the "best" team. Relax! There is plenty of time (now with the new rules). Also I said I don't like snap judgments but I agree if your kid is in a bad fit situation that can be different. I also think abusive coaches, bullying from players, getting beat down emotionally and losing the love for the game are situations that warrant quicker action.

Those points are all fair and well taken. thank you. But I think you are missing one of the main issues - do parents want to watch their girls play in a league where they win games regularly by 10+ goal margins? And have to endure travel to do it? Do kids enjoy that? it's not really about getting off track relative to long term goals. It's about having fun and being challenged regularly in the near term. Games are a reward for training hard. it's why you train.

Those ECNL friendlies were 2 games with uneven participation, as I understand it. They might still comfortably win the ECNL division, but they would have better games from two teams locally and on the Florida swing for sure.
It's important to note that they might not have a say in which league they join. And also, those friendlies were a snapshot in time when only one year (2007) got hollowed out by defections. What if it happens in other age groups next year? No one knows what will happen, but I can promise you things will not remain static.
Look, the competition level in ECNL versus GALS at the lower end of the age spectrum (08, 07, 06) right now is not even debatable. People seem sensitive to that reality. if it wasn't a problem, why is Tophat allegedly (and desperately) trying to get back into ECNL?

I am not sensitive to the realities of the two leagues... Assuming you have an 08 daughter you may not have the long term perspective so I was attempting to give it to you. If you are just a parent speculating about the 2 leagues thats cool too. No one (in their right mind) is debating which league is better. I would never compare a 20 year old league with a brand new league. Thats crazy. There will be more league changes before the games really count for the 08s. Remember my disclaimer from before. I think its awesome when parents pick the best landing place for their child no matter what club or league. So the question is are you talking about quality of league (Top to bottom ECNL better) or what should parents do (relax, enjoy, make plans in May and June when you know more)?

There are things the coach could do (maybe is doing) to make them less lopsided. Play your offensive players at defense and vice versa. This helps to round out the players and little mistakes generally happen enough to provide true learning. I truly believe that you might have two games locally that are competitive and none in Florida if you were ECNL. Florida is generally weak in ECNL at the younger age groups as well. Actually Florida parents seem to keep their kids close to home a lot longer and don't league chase and swap clubs nearly as much as we do here...partly because the really good teams are more spread out and traffic there can be an even bigger issue due to where you have to go to get to ECNL teams. Trust me that people do not want to leave Miami or further south like Kendall to go to Sunrise or Weston at drive time. But two games is better than none, I get it. Good luck.

That’s actually not true re: FL and ECNL. Surprisingly, Sunrise Prime has some competitive squads at the middle-older age groups this year. Heard some girls left Weston for ECNL with Sunrise and it was evident in a number of the matches I saw this past weekend. Florida Elite usually puts out good teams as well. Orlando teams usually play a more physical brand of soccer and can be difficult as a result. Tampa usually falls somewhere between Orlando and FL Elite. Jacksonville is hit or miss. On the other hand, Wake FC and West Florida are essentially rec teams in GAL kits. There isn’t a single SE conference ECNL team as weak as either of those 2 GAL squads, and those 2 constitute almost 30% of the GAL Southeast conference! You’ll probably be hard pressed to find too many teams nationally in either ECNL or GAL as poor as either of those two. As a result, the only competitive teams that NTH, e.g., will see in-conference—local or otherwise—will be Weston and IMG, as proven by combined miracle last second ties and a loss by the NTH’s 06s and 05s this past weekend to those very Weston and IMG teams (still have questions as to why she was needed in big games in order to secure wins for EITHER age group last season, soccerbandit?). Contrarily, you’ll generally get a battle in ECNL in the SE from almost every single Atlanta team and at LEAST half of the Alabama/Florida teams.

I respectfully disagree. I worry GALS will end up proving a waste of time for many of these TH teams...at least this year. The competition just isn't there. And while it's great that they can train against each other in practice, beating terrible competition 12-0 actually gets old quickly and isn't a lot of fun. And it certainly doesn't make you better. These girls train hard and the games are supposed to be the payoff that they find fun and keeps them engaged. If the only competition they face is practice, it becomes more like a job. They can try and supplement the league schedule with tournaments, but there are only so many with good competition and I just heard Disney might not happen. Friendlies are another option, but there aren't a lot clubs that are anxious to do Tophat favors and many are unwilling to schedule them. If Tophat doesn't get ECNL next year, an elite player would be crazy to stay there, in my opinion. I really think it's make or break for TH. I think Atlanta soccer will be better with TH in ECNL. But I don't get to make that decision. They 2008 team is very, very strong. Fast and impressive. And I think their coach is strong. But there is no informational value to be gleaned from their GALS games. 100% agree, some already looking for next year if no ecnl I thought your daughter was already in ECNL 🤣🤣🤣.

The 08 TH team is just strong. SE GA had plenty of competitive games this past weekend at all age groups other than 08s. That's not GA fault the team is just really strong. The scores would be no different in ECNL. That team won 12-0 and 7-0 playing keep away from the ECNL teams at CESA. The teams they played at CESA are doing fairly well in the first couple leagues games they had. GA had YNT scouts at the games this weekend evaluating kids. I'm not sure what else these parents want. Competition is just as it was 6 months ago in DA. Don't use the 08 TH team as a barometer. That team would likely smoke any team in this regional in their age group.
Like someone said breaking up this team for a league is very short sighted. Trainings should be to priority. There is no other place for those kids to have that kind of training environment.
The kids are enjoying themselves and getting a lot better by staying together. Don't try and be a shizat starter and hurt these kids development

Also that 08 TH team only loss one game to 07 ECNL teams last year. Even the loss they dominated. They went 3-1 against 07 ECNL teams. Whether they play GA or ECNL 08 it would make no difference in score lines or level of competition for them

Since we are talking about 12- and 13-year-old girls, I think that we might all just take a deep breath and calm down. This team appears to be a pretty strong side now, but like we’ve all learned in the stock market, past results are not necessarily an indicator of future performance. Let’s give the girls on this and all other teams time to practice, play, and improve...

Serious question. When are the girls old enough to not be called “only X age?” The 08s are 7th graders. A couple years ago they would’ve only been a year away from being recruited. For some, they’ve already played longer than they have left to play competitively. This group of seriously very talented young ladies may still be young, but there’s no doubt they can play and will likely get better and better and better with time - especially if they stay together and train together. The training is the key in all of this.

That being said parents will always stress over the team, the league, their competition, are they getting better etc etc etc. Here is what I can say...I know kids that were fantastic (ODP regional before DA, DA when it started for girls, NTC invites) that quit soccer in 9th, 10th, 11tj grades. That is why I think 04gparent says to enjoy your time. You might be one of the 10% (or more) of those families not even doing this soccer journey in 3 more years when the team, league matters.

Wake FC has some age groups that have been strong. Do you think Roswell Santos 05 is a good team? You hear a lot of respect for that Santos team on this forum. Well that team lost to Wake 4-1 last year. They are not as good as a lot of ECNL teams but I think you are selling them short. Not exactly sure why you would find my statement re: Wake and West Florida “very insulting” but the facts support my contention. Last weekend they had losses in the U15 and older age groups (current U14s are either 12 or 13 right now so I’m not counting girls that young) of 7-0, 4-2, 7-0, 2-1, 6-1, 8-0 and 11-0 last weekend. Not exactly putting up much of a fight across all age groups and DEFINITELY not being sold short given their performances thus far. I agree with you that U16 is around the time that you might want to take a look at FL teams (that’s a good time in general for all girls although I’d probably say U15, maybe U14 if they’re girls national team-level players). For example, U16 FL Elite took out both UFA and AFU last weekend, Jacksonville beat AFU as well & Sunrise played GSA and Concorde Platinum last week and escaped Atlanta without a loss. If anything, the FL teams not named West Florida are the ones being sold short. Even in their losses they’re at least competitive for the most part.

I have not argued that ECNL and GA are equivalent, but having lived in Florida for a long time I can tell you their soccer is not as good as it should be. To clarify, those were Wake game scores but West Fl isn’t much better—losses of 8-0, 4-0, 8-0, 4-0, 4-0, 2-0, 4-0 at the same age group (or others).

I respectfully disagree re Florida teams in ECNL. There are good teams here and there and Sunrise generally has some of them. As a whole I have not been impressed with the Florida ECNL teams until they get to U16 and up and even then it is hit or miss. As for Atl teams I also disagree. Each age group has some good teams in Atl but there are also those that struggle. I do agree that Wake FC and WFF are weaker but your statement about their quality is very insulting. Wake FC won Piedmont NL and NPL in the 05 age group and younger age groups consistently beat up UFA's second teams last year. I think comparing NPL/NL teams (who generally have kids going to lower D1 and better D2 schools in college at older age groups) to rec teams is insulting to those kids. People trash "lower" league teams like those from SCCL. NPL and NL Piedmont, but to compare them to rec is insulting IMO.

I have no idea...is the Wake 05 team this year the same group of players as the last couple of years? There's speculation that the Weston teams are not the same groups of girls.

I would say yes it is the same team. Why would they leave an NL/NPL team when they go into GA? Where would they go? NCFC is so deep and has 2 ECNL teams already. If they lost any players it would be a couple maybe. They played Tophat Gold tight in the second game. Their coach identified the biggest threats and they executed their game plan well. Besides people often make generalizations about player movement from a whole club when in truth it is only a couple of age groups, if that. I am not claiming that Wake or West Florida Flames are awesome teams. I just said it was insulting (and I think ridiculous) to call them rec teams when people gush about Roswell Santos 05 being so awesome. Wake FC 05 is a better team and they are being called a rec team. #hypocrisy
