I recognize couple college coaches in older ages that I haven't seen in ODP before. Also some DOCs from smaller clubs. Looks like an overhaul and less of the same... The license credentials look fine, and hopefully they're experienced as well. If we are to trust Kostas and new staff, this should be refreshing. Will be interesting to see how those coaches train and interact with players on the field.

Where are these coaches from? I don’t see any recognizable names from NASA (my son’s home club). Is that normal? Are there coaches from the other bigger clubs? Jennifer Kirby - Inter Atlanta girls DOC Kerem Daser - North Georgia Soccer Academy Director That’s all I can contribute What happened to the coaches from last year? Does ODP typically change a lot of coaches each year?

Mostly not larger club coaches. Most of the affiliated coaches are with Inter, GA Storm, Impact and smaller clubs like Oconee, Athens, Legion, All-In etc.
NTH doesn't really "do" ODP.

Biggest problem with ODP has been politics, recruiting for clubs, and leaving out of the pool talented players sometimes. Training has not been a concern. Playing time you should earn it. Kostas is legit. As long as there is less politics and better player selections, I'm down with it.

May be a reason for the different names and club affiliations or lack thereof.

My guess is a lot of coaches from the Big-5/6 are no longer part of ODP because their clubs left GA Soccer for SCCL.

Lot of SCCL clubs told their coaches not to do ODP. So you lost the random NTH, Santos, Rush/Chiefs, and UFA Coaches from last year.

I get that when it comes to league play and tournaments, they did what they felt they had to do, but ODP? Exec Director, State DOC and Tourn Directors were a major factor in what's happened in past according to the big clubs, and they have been replaced. ODP and MLS are partnered, one more reason this makes less sense. Something else is wrong here (if true). This is beyond GA Soccer.

so question -- do you think this also means odp will bring in MLS players or is this collaboration on a larger scale?
Historical the value of odp (way back when coke cost a nickel), odp was the pipeline to regional team, national team etc. obviously that mostly isn't the case anymore but I think ODP should have a different agenda then MLS. MLS's goal is to create mls players, ODPs goal is/was/should be identify national team pool players.

That’s a good question-I think it will give kids located outside of Atlanta (not in ECNL/MLS) a chance to be looked at. As far as the wider implications, that remains to be seen-but I think it’s a step in the right direction.

That’s not exactly an A-list coaching slate. But it’s not really Georgia Soccer’s fault. I don’t know how many top coaches at big clubs are even interested any more. If you think about a coach with 3 teams, they are on the field Monday thru Thursday and have games most weekends. When do they really have time? When ODP was all the best players, there was still incentive for those coaches to stretch themselves and be involved. But now with most of the top players skipping ODP, the talent isn’t enough to keep those top coaches coming out on their one day off each week. I think the coaching list is pretty solid-could it be better? You could always add a good/great coach and make it better. I do agree that a lot of the more experienced coaches don’t have the time-especially in the fall.

My question is what defines an A-list coach? Simply by the club at which they coach? How many players they've put into college? We know that talent collects. I have to figure some of the best coaches simply don't want to drive to the traffic hub of the city 3x a week just to get that $1K-$2K a month.

ODP is a joke in my personal opinion. My kid was invited and our coach said it was our choice but personally he doesn’t vouch for it. Sure enough we ended up leaving along with others that didn’t enjoy it. Hopefully they switch some things up but I don’t know it’s important if you’re already on a good competitive team. Maybe for the smaller club players it can play a more important role in their exposure/experience. As far as the coaches go, looks like there are some good coaches along with some not good coaches. Shouldn’t ODP try to attract the best coaches? Maybe they have but based on list it doesn’t seem like it with some of the names on there.

To me it seems like US Club's id2 is a largely political situatuon for club/player favoritism rather than an objective tryout. So by that standard, IMO ODP is now objectively better run. Now ODP doesn't get the big club players, which hurts on the girls side. But at least it's not purely political as out would be if the large clubs were involved.

I think that ODP will be another pathway to an MLS academy in the near future-that’s where the National Team is going to come from (along with the ex pat international players). Regardless, ODP is good extra practice where kids can make contacts and be seen. I don’t understand why anyone would tell a kid not to go for it. If your athlete isn’t apart of GA soccer, you have to pay the extra fee to register but that’s it.
My biggest gripe about ODP was the travel to practice. It’s a long way for us-so much so we considered going to ODP in a neighboring state. I know the folks in Savannah were hating life, too.

I think moreso than a pathway to the NT, its a pathway for growth as a player and an individual. Step out of your club-comfort zone. Challenge your skills against other serious kids. Take on more than the normal practice workload.
With regard to distance, last year they were supposed to have outreach training in Rome and Macon (or somewhere farther south). I don't know if that materialized.
Some non-USYS clubs will cover the registration fee for you.

I've posted before on this, but I'll do it again. ODP is what you make of it. If you think it's a path to greatness, you'll be disappointed.
Extra touches, another coaching voice, meeting new players, new experiences. That's the takeaway.
I played ODP for a year in the mid-80's. I learned things my club coaches didn't know to teach (this was before paid coaching). Experienced a week of Region Camp at lovely Erskine College in Due West, SC. Fun times. Didn't make the team again after one year - which was a fair assessment of my abilities at the time.
One of my daughters did ODP for several years (U12 to U15 or so). She had a relatively good experience, and learned to play a different position than her normal club spot - center back v. attacking mid. This made her a better player overall. Was it political? Yes, particularly at Region Camp. Was it good for her? On the balance, yes.
Enjoy the ride, it wraps up more quickly than you expect.

A week later and it seems like this moving at somewhat glacial speed.
Last week we had the full list of coaches announcement, but we're a quarter of the way through October and they haven't assigned the coaches to age groups or released training schedules. Since they're planning to schedule friendlies for November and December this information would be good to have ASAP.
