I wonder if its simply due to clubs losing it as a recruiting tool.

So, looks like the US Club coaches have been replaced in ODP, have US Club players been encouraged to not attend ODP? From the past years we did ODP pretty much some of the top talent at Tophat or Concorde Fire were already not involved. On the girls side it was pretty much Atlanta Fire Ecnl girls and smaller clubs. Will that continue? Yep. Both SCCL clubs for us said they preferred players to stay away from ODP especially after Ga Soccer didn’t ask most SCCL coaches to come back. It seems to have become a pissing contest between the two organizations right now as neither one want to grow up and care about the kids and program. We are at an SCCL Club and play on an SCCL team. Our coach suggested we tryout for ODP and thinks it would be a great opportunity. Our coach also feels we should have a spot on the ECNL team and thinks we were cheated by the lack of "official tryouts" this year, so maybe we are an exception to the rule. Honestly if our club told us to stay away from ODP it would probably push us even harder towards it. I don't really care what is best for the club or GA Soccer, just what is best for my child. The more opportunities to play with higher level competition, the better.

One kid enjoyed it except of the politics behind making teams, and the other hated it due to the coaches. Though sounds like your SCCL coach is saying go odp to get scouted by other coaches because your kid might not be able to move to the ECNL team due to politics/legacy kids.

Bueller...Bueller....
I wonder if the same people managing ODP are also managing State Cup.
Since my kid's team isnt playing for 3 of the November weekends I'm strongly considering trying to find her a guest-playing spot on a tournament team. Since GA Soccer cant get their heads out to plan a month and a half in advance, I'll just have to hope it doesnt create a conflict with these interstate ODP friendlies they're advertising.

That would be quite a contrast. You're right about ODP, don't know what the wait is or the lack of communication after the all hype for ODP this fall. The State Cup schedule on the other hand is looking like the World Cup and sooner than ever before with dates, times, fields and opponents.

And just got an email direct from ODP (Kostas) regarding “tryouts”: * To reconfirm, there are NO “open” tryouts for 2004-2008 boys and girls age groups. * Once you have registered, the Scout team will take over the evaluation process and be in contact with you and your player; this may include a visit to the player’s training, a match, and likely an invitation to an ODP training session for final evaluation/assessment by the respective age group staff. * Please DO NOT show up to the tryouts that are being held this weekend Friday, October 16th, and Sunday, October 18th. These tryouts are only for 2009-2010 players only!

Either the number wanting evaluations is much smaller than the 400 someone suggested or their "scouting network" is biting off a LOT and will have to attend a lot of games. I have no doubt they are going to favor NL/GPL/Athena/Classic games over SCCL/ECNL/NPL.

First off I hope they favor the best players no matter where they come from. Statistically speaking, and MLS/ECNL being destination leagues, it's expected to see more MLS/ECNL players into ODP but only IF they actually show up. Going to more comparable leagues, I don't expect a major variance in pools between players in NL(USYS) and SCCL-C/NPL(US Club), so that level of variance in the ODP selections would be a better indicator for the "neutrality" we hope to see.

Let’s be honest though with regards to neutrality. shouldn’t Georgia Soccer and USYS when evaluating players of equal ability, shouldn’t they give preference to players that have chosen leagues within Georgia soccer and USYS? Sure take the ecnl and gal girls that come out but if there is a tie give the spot to the NL or GPL kid over SCCL and NPL every time.

Yeah, just basic politics. If they removed SCCL coaches, I figure they will favor the players at "loyal" clubs also.

If the objective of the "Olympic Development Program" is what its title says, that is to identify and develop players for the next level and ultimately the USNT for the Olympics (and beyond), they should select the best players and those talented players with the most potential to get there, regardless of the league they play in. In case of "ties if is that close" they should have both players in the pool until one pulls away one way or the other.

From what I could tell, the pools for 2019-20 were smaller than 2018-19.

$ charged for ODP is nominal. Its great training. Kid played 4 years and enjoyed the training and the friends he developed. He was selected to go to the University of Alabama every year he played so had that experience as well. Thanks to AU for providing their training facility. Players get out of it what the put in.
