I think the MLS just makes up new rules on the fly. very very strange league. I think if it makes a buck, they are all over it. Not necessarily a bad thing, but no consistency...they throw crap on a wall to see what sticks.

Atlanta United Spreading the beautiful game ⚽️ Great initiative, floors me that there are so many "locked" fields around town, that prevent the young lads n lasses from having a kick-off. With fast mini-vans and texting while driving, we can't have the kids play in the streets like we did... Per AU "Our goal is to construct up to 100 mini-soccer pitches in Georgia before the 2026 World Cup." Check to see if your group is eligible ➡️ atlu.td/5e1m50Dmkgw. Applications now accepted through April 1!

Pure speculation but I wonder if it has to do with locking in these players before they get close to the age where they could be signed by a European club. If the club thinks that it has a real superstar on its hands, it wants to make sure that it has the transfer rights to the player before reaching 18. If the player has recent european decent, it becomes even more important to lock in the rights.

To me, I wonder if I’d allow my son to be signed at that age. I’m conflicted...but i believe if he was that good at 15\16 we’d be heading to Germany.

I think the point Bogan was pondering was "why sign with MLS at such a young age?" I would say it is the same reason kids apply to a "safety school" when applying to college (athletes or not). Good to have something to fall back on...

Oh. OH!!! Yes, this is a good question. Ego? Pride? As someone else said safety net....strike while the iron is hot. No-reality. Generally low wages in MLS. That may be changing but I’d take my chances in Germany...

Oh. OH!!! Yes, this is a good question. Ego? Pride? As someone else said safety net....strike while the iron is hot. That or a complete misunderstanding of the greater soccer world. A lot of Americans have been shielded from the realities of the true soccer economy. If MLS gets a hold of them early, they may be intentionally kept blind.

What an exciting offseason. The front office isn't messing around ...
Forwards • Jahn - OUT (good) • Williams - OUT (useless) • Lopez - IN (exciting, but not sure what impact he'll have) • Cubo - IN (solid, great effort, locker room respect)
Mid • Castro - OUT (didn't perform) • Remedi - Rumored to be leaving (about time, not consistent or conditioned) • Sosa - IN (not Nagby, but lots of promise) • Ibarra - IN (seems to be another with lots of potential under Heinze) • Gallagher - OUT
Back • Castillo - OUT (never worked out) • Wyke - OUT (not consistent) • Escobar - OUT (going to miss his spirit, not his play) • Meza - Rumored to be leaving (not going to miss him, low impact, always out of position) • Ambrose (yawn)
Bonus • Kratz - love seeing him come back to coach in the academy • Pity - rumored to Cinci (buwahahahahaha!!!) • Ramos (rumors he might be leaving Madrid .. haha, dreams!) • lots of youth signings, but I'm guessing Chol and others will be on ATL2?
There's a lot of work to be done by the front office on the backline. Who do you wish they would pick up? (besides bringing back LGP?) • Hectar (not likely at this point)

I thought that he provided a spark. Not a big fan of LGP. He always made at least one huge mistake a game and was a yellow waiting to happen.

yet they are still paying Guzan big money when it comes to mls dollors. Is he worth 7 to 8 times that of Kann?

yet they are still paying Guzan big money when it comes to mls dollors. Is he worth 7 to 8 times that of Kann? Curious .. First of all, there seems to be a lot of disdain for Guzan lately. Hasn't he had more ups than downs? I felt the defense was atrocious last year and let him down, so where is this coming from? Secondly, is his money keeping AUFC from picking up other key players? Why is his salary an issue? (especially if he's bringing dollars into the club) If we're going to talk about salary's that aren't living up to their potential, shouldn't that angst be directed to Barco? Lastly, who is feeling more generally positive about the team's chances than last year already?

Alec is equal if not better quality and considerably cheaper. Plus as a hometown hero had more potential selling jerseys / whatnot if they gave him the #1.
