I personally (let me clarify, that I have no insider info and am basically an idiot) did not think he would stick as the AU2 coach. Just didn't seem like the right move to go from coaching a first team back to the 2s. It has to be completely hard to switch the mentality also -- one is win at all costs, the other is, well I don't know what the other is.....
Another tough spot for him taking over a team 40 points out of first place. Their are clearly worse teams in the Scottish Premiership as well. Was he brought on because of the partnership between the 2 clubs?
I personally know very little about scottish ball, remember i'm the village idiot..... So I have no idea what the expectations are etc.

My understanding is he played for Aberdeen. I think it’s a good position for him. He hopefully will be given time to learn. Maybe the expectations will be lower and he can surprise people with his ability to coach. He will be in Europe, which could lead to other managerial positions in the future for him. Perhaps with him being manager maybe some AU kids can go on loan or signed. But I am not an insider either.

Dave Cormack is the Chairman of Aberdeen FC. and former businessman who at one time was based out of the ATL and forged that relationship. FYI - Here is look into Stephen Glass' first RedTV Interview & hear from Dave Cormack :

The current Chairman of the Dons, wants to play the AU way, on the front foot and constantly attacking. We shall see if Stephen is able to accomplish that with the current roster he has. Some moves may have to be made to allow for that style of play. In regards to the academy lads from AU getting a chance there, the same immigration related rules apply. They would have to have a passport/permission to stay for an extended time outside of a week or two. The three that went over a couple of years ago, all had the "paperwork" to stay and train...

Hearing some rumblings of the Atlanta United Academy Group possibly starting up some type of school for the Academy Players modeling another successful MLS Academy in the Northeast. Is this going to be free to the Academy Lads, some nominal fee or full payment akin to a private school? Will it be housed at the training grounds or a subset of an existing school? I hear they also brought in Stewart Lathan, a seasoned and prolific fundraiser known locally in the halls of private school academia to be the "Academy Player Liason" I for one think that would be an awesome next step to alleviate having to deal with the chaos of high school and the academy. Next thing should be a residency program. Hey allthingsoccer can you verify this and if possible give more details for the class... Also, to close out the Month - In honor of Women's History Month, AMB Sports + Entertainment will host a virtual women's-focused career panel titled "ConvHERsations" presented by Mercedes-Benz. The panel aims to provide young women in Atlanta with the opportunity to gain knowledge, insights, and career advice from women among the Atlanta Falcons, Atlanta United, Mercedes-Benz Stadium, Mercedes-Benz USA, PGA TOUR Superstore, and The Home Depot Backyard...

Seems pretty easy slap - some computers in a room, sign up for an online homeschooling program and done. Have a robot click buttons and the keyboard during the day and hire someone to oversee and help mentor along the way. done.
didn't many of the highschools even pre-covid have a virtual/online program that kids could enroll in for a small fee?

I read about a deal they have/had last school year with Marietta Public Schools, so not sure if this is tied to that or is a completely separate thing...

As always you heard correct. Amazing that we have Stewart Lathan helping. Its a big missing position for the Academy. Glad she stepped up. AU will have the two options from what I heard. Keeping the relationship with Marietta High and doing something similar to what Philly doing. They seem to be having some sucess with this www.yscacademy.com/No plans as of yet on the residency. I'm sure its coming but not for a couple + years I'm sure.

Yea, looks like it costs $35K a year
for 35k you don't even get a pc or mac, you get a chrome book!
and families have to provide daily lunch.
This is a horrible deal!

Very few of the kids at the Academy, will make it in pro soccer. As shown by the original crop of homegrowns, making it in professional soccer is extremely difficult. Education is much more important than soccer.

Agree - AU has not had much success in their academy thus far if you look at their current results of the original group. Look whst they did this off season with one signing after another after another from the outside most if not all from Latin and South America. That is not development.

It’s a minor miracle MLS even has academies. I sincerely hope our academy at AU succeeds.

I think that MLS should reconsider the academy system. Perhaps have one team like USL...or at most two teams (U-17 and U-19). I’m sure many will disagree; but for all but the most exceptional players, it is most likely not worth the sacrifice.

What do you guys think the reasons are that AU Academy has not had much success developing players? Is it because they hand pick these kids at a very young and crown them as future MLS players because they happen to be more advanced at the age 9? Maybe they should widen their pool and invest in more kids development in the area. Thoughts?

Recruit from their MLS next partners (and others) when the time comes.

Its not just AU or MLS development that is lacking. The DA fiasco has our USMNT in the situation we cannot beat teams like Trinidad and Tobago. Most recently they failed to qualify for their 3rd straight Olympics. The narrowing of pools at such a young age ensures failure will continue. I suggest thepowers that br figure this out as its frankly getting embarassing.

Americans don’t love soccer like they love football or basketball. That’s just the way it is. Until Americans live and breath soccer, we won’t be the best. I still think things are better today than when I was a kid. That’s just my opinion though.

The countdown is on for us hosting the WC - 1,890 days - June 8, 2026 Do you think we can figure out our shizat before then? I've started to save my vacation days so I can take the whole month off, would hate for the US to be 2/3 and out - we need more scouts and a much more robust scouting network... - no one is automatically on the YNT/MNT, you constantly earn your stripes... - open up the youth pipeline to all sorts of soccer(futsal/futbol/high-school/ODP/3v3/5v5/pop-up-camps by pro clubs...) - bring in someone with a proven track record and give him/her time to build from the ground up. Hey give Jill Ellis a shot I say...
