Question. So if Lassiter and River Ridge win, their respective schools would be 14 minutes away on Trickum road.
Are they able to opt-out of Macon and just play at home? Why would Georgia think it makes sense to send the kids so far away for a game?

I believe last year when it was Cambridge/Johns Creek they moved the game from Mercer to McEachern, but I'm not 100%.

If last year is any indication, the GHSA is completely inflexible on moving championship games even when it makes zero sense to have them at a pre-announced neutral site. In the 2021 Class AA girls final last year, for example, Lovett & Pace Academy, which are 3 miles apart in Buckhead, were forced to drive 4 hours each way to Savannah- IN THE MIDDLE OF A GAS SHORTAGE, due to the Colonial Pipeline hacking deal- to play at 8:00 PM on a Thursday night. I'm sure very few fans for either team outside of parents actually made the trip, and I highly doubt there were a lot of curious locals in the soccer hotbed of Savannah that came out to watch two teams they had zero vested interest in play the game either. It is simply an unnecessary, ridiculous policy to have neutral site championships for any sports other than football & basketball. I get that one team has a slight advantage getting to play at home, but forcing teams to incur the time & expense of driving hours & hours to play in almost completely empty stadiums, away from friends & classmates- especially when those schools might be close together & far from the neutral site- is completely absurd and shows that GHSA doesn't care one bit about the players, teams, family, & fans.

Agree. I'm surprised they don't just alternate Atlanta and Macon as sites for championship games if they're going to insist on neutral site games. Macon is the center of the state and would seem like a sensible location. I think Atlanta would be a good choice simply due to the # of teams that inevitably come from this area. Savannah was an awful choice.

Where are the GHSA football championships held? Looks like its at Georgia State (center of the most populous area the state). Soccer (and every other sport) should be held in the same vicinity.

Savannah was an awful choice. Yeah, it looks like they came to their senses and removed Savannah from the rotation this year. All the championship games appear to be at McEachern or Mercer in Macon. But even Macon doesn't make that much sense to me when it comes to soccer specifically. They should realize that in any given year, 90% of the teams involved in any championship games will come from a 90-minute radius around Atlanta. If they are going to INSIST on playing these games at neutral sites- which again, I think is stupid, costly, and unnecessary- just put all the soccer games somewhere in metro Atlanta. Yes, every once in a while you will have a team that has to drive from South Georgia all the way to Atlanta for a championship game, but there's a 50/50 chance that would happen for that team anyway since only half the games are in Macon and the other half are in the Atlanta area.

Where are the GHSA football championships held? Looks like its at Georgia State (center of the state). Soccer (and every other sport) should be held in the same vicinity. Georgia State's stadium is the old Turner Field, near downtown Atlanta, which is not exactly the "center of the state" like most consider the Macon area to be. Maybe you're confusing Georgia State with Georgia College in Milledgeville, or somewhere in Macon? Again, though, I don't understand the need or fascination with neutral site championship games. For any sport other than football and maybe basketball, you're going to get extremely limited local interest in terms of fan attendance. Far less so than if you held a game on the campus of one of the participating teams. And every team that makes it to the state final in soccer has a big enough stadium to support whatever crowd might want to come. It makes absolutely zero sense to force two teams from metro Atlanta- where the vast majority of teams that make the final in sports like soccer will be based- to drive out of market to somewhere like Macon to play each other. And I'm sure the GHSA will claim it's in the interest of fairness, and not giving one team a home-field advantage, but I guarantee you Pace & Lovett last year happily would have traded the slight disadvantage of having to play at the other's stadium for an 8-hour round trip to Savannah on a school/work night to play in front of an almost-empty stadium. Ridiculous.

I thought I had fixed that, but looks like it didn't take. I meant to say the center of most populated area of the state. Maybe they could do it at Emory and Georgia State? Are there any teams this year from south of Macon in the final 4?

Why would Georgia think it makes sense to send the kids so far away for a game? Agree that it's not fair to the players, the students or the parents of either team. Especially if the game is on a school night. You could easily find a neutral stadium somewhere in Atlanta to play that game. GHSA would have at least a week to figure things out. But, GHSA will just go ahead and force those kids to drive 2 hours away to play the biggest game of their high school career away from many of their fans.

Only two teams from Columbus (Columbus High and St Anne-Pacelli).

what would have happened if pace and lovett just refused and played it at home? I actually wondered this same thing last year. I'm sure the GHSA would have thrown a complete fit and overreacted to try to prevent something like this from ever happening again- said the championship wasn't legit and both teams had to forfeit, barred them from competing in next year's playoffs, etc. Even though it would have made total sense (especially given the gas shortage crisis) and no one in Savannah would have given a crap- or even noticed- if the game wasn't played there!

Savannah was an awful choice. I'd vote for Pace. Athletic campus is off campus, plenty of parking, beautiful stadium and immaculate grass field. Lovett has a great facility as well, but the off campus nature of the Pace complex would make it feel neutral.

Innovation Academy will have a Varsity soccer program next year? they were listed under region 7-AAAAAA (8) This is a listing of all schools and their class/region for next school year, it's not specific to soccer. But what's interesting is that I ran into a friend last weekend whose daughter plays ECRL and goes to HS at Innovation Academy. I knew nothing about the school but she told me they don't have any athletic teams. So why is Innovation Academy even listed here? Paul Duke STEM High School in Norcross is the same (no sports teams) but they're not listed on the linked page. So it seems odd to see Innovation Academy listed.

Question is does Sprayberry win a region game next year? If I’m there soccer coach I am quitting. Wonder if the former coach knew that was happening before leaving for Walton
