We have AFU, GSA and UFA --- no NASA yet right? I don't include CF, because in 15 years, I've never seen a published coaching list prior to tryouts.
Does Concorde north still exist?

Oh, I wasn’t aware of that. So is the coach provided before you sign? Of course - you should have already had at least one, if not multiple, conversations with the coach prior to signing. What soccerhouse is saying that Concorde rarely, if ever, publishes their coaching list in advance of tryouts. Typically you find out the coaches of your kid's age group at Concorde through word of mouth by going to whatever pre-tryout camps, ID sessions, etc. that they run during May.

I hadn’t heard anything as of yet by any of those for my child’s age group. Still waiting for confirmation on who will be the coach.

Looks like for ECNL, just waiting on Concorde. ⌚️⏱ Any info on changes or will everything remain the same?

Hi, question from a novice. What resources do you use to gain some insight about a potential coach? Like track record, experience, etc. Even a basic bio would be helpful. I know some clubs publish this but in many cases I’m only finding it for Directors on the club’s site unless I’m not looking in the right places.

It's really all word-of-mouth. You just have to try to reach out to folks who may know the coach in some way to see what they've heard or know. Some clubs (like UFA) post bios of the coaches, which is great, except UFA will notoriously leave some coaches off the website. Then you have places like Concorde who must think their coaches list is on lockdown with the NSA.

You can have a great license and great experience and be a jerk or a terrible coach. Word of mouth is very helpful though some coaches that are loved by some might not be loved by you. If the child is young I would suggest doing the pre-tryout camps that many clubs do so that you can get to know the players and coaches and often you can get good info there.

The only way to know if a coach is going to be a good coach is usually to play for him/her a season. There are some coaches out there that should come with a warning label but don’t. Most coaches are middle of the road. But ask around and like others have said, see if you can catch them in action at a practice or ID session. Agree with Oracle that Bios don’t help. There are several A licensed coaches out there I wouldn’t let my kid near. There are some great coaches with C licenses…

I'm not suggesting bios tell you everything you need to know, just that they can at least give you some insight into what they've been doing, where they've come from, etc. It's just one piece of the puzzle. I usually Google them, look them up on social media, etc. Talk to friends/acquaintances. Talk to other coaches I know.

Other thing to do is go watch a game. You can tell a lot by how the kids play, the interaction between players as well as between players and the coach. Then talk to some parents after the game. We had a coach previously with an A license who started out the season well but then became awful. Did the same drills at practice for 3 months straight. Kids lost their interest in soccer.

Incredibly helpful guidance all around thank you! I’m going to plan to catch a game or two of the coach slated for the fall based on these suggestions and we are definitely participating in the pre tryout camp. Thanks again!

SSA GA - 2 new coaches are Brad Mitchum for 04, 05, 06 girls and Johny Evans for 07 girls. Does anyone have experience with Brad Mitchum? Very early word is positive but this was just annouced a couple of days ago.

Very early word is positive but this was just annouced a couple of days ago. Brad Mitchum is the current coach for AFU 2007 Girls ECNL and AFU 2008 Girls ENCL. Both teams are currently 10/12 in SE Conference. 2007 record was 4-14-4. 2008 record is 3-7-9 with 3 games remaining against the top 2 teams in the conference.

Very early word is positive but this was just annouced a couple of days ago. Brad is a good coach, he only had one fall working with the 07's at AFU, so I'd like to have seen what he could do with them a 2nd season. My daughter played for him on a team of trapped 07 players this spring and she said he's a good, tough coach. Heard the same from a few of the ECNL parents who had him in the fall but I did not ask many about him so I'm sure he's got some detractors on the team given the record. It was a team that struggled the previous few years under a different coach. Our spring team went 4-1-1, should've been 5-1-0 with our lone draw being the result of a mistake by our CB and GK early in the Roswell Santos game. He's moving clubs for family reasons - very young family and lives much closer to SSA than AFU. Believe he played soccer in college for Ga. Southern.

Hate it for those 06 girls and the younger boys teams he coached but sounds like a great opportunity for him and he’ll be a lot closer to home.

I heard TH has a lot of changes with coaching staff.
Rumors heard …
09 Gold getting a new coach. I thought it was the current coach’s first year with that group?
Apparently TC stepping out of the academy to coach 10 gold? I heard that group was special and dominated the dpl playing up an age this year
Has anyone heard anything different or anything else?

Yes, every year they build a super team and dominate and unfortunately at some point for whatever reason they split up. As for TC, he’s there to stay.

Any visibility on coaches other than ECNL? e.g. AFU have posted all their coaches but UFA only their ECNL coaches. Any idea why? Maybe they are trying to understand how big the exodus will be before working out how many coaches they will need.

They probably just have ECNL/ECNL-R out due to the ID camps for kids wanting to be on those teams. The rest will come later.

Love that AFU posted theirs so early. Everyone else is slow. Seems silly to post and ID camp for ECNL/ECRL or GA/DPL and not announce all of the coaches.

Anyone know about TopHat GA coaches? Who has what age? How do people know if they want to do pre tryout camp if they don’t know who the coach is?

Anyone know about TopHat GA coaches? Who has what age? How do people know if they want to do pre tryout camp if they don’t know who the coach is? Well Troy will likely have the 04/05 Gold team. That is the rumor and he usually does have at least two Gold teams. As for the rest it is hard to say. Bill left and he had two Navy teams so he needs to hire or promote coaches to fill that gap. I imagine the list will be out soon. They do post theirs unlike Concorde.
